  • this illustrates the 11th of the 10 rules of species counterpoint: know when to break the rules!

  • That's awesome! I've just been getting into jazz and played this lick over a jazz backing track... sounded great! Thanks for all the lessons! Keep at it bro!

  • I want this video on my MOTO XT316 phone.

  • Your video is popular on Reykjavik

  • You are an excellent, patient and skilled teacher...keep plucking!

  • Great lessons every time m8 ;)

  • Good lesson thx!!

  • neat trick!

  • nice work justin!

let me know what you tihnk of my videos :)

  • You're the best, Justin

  • Love this one, Justin! Thanks for everything.

  • @0penupyoureyes I'm being greedy putting ads on my video?? GFY. Blocked.

  • @JustinSandercoe That is awesome Justin ha ha and here I thought I would have to rant at that guy about how you do not even make people pay on your site so you are probably the least greedy guitar teacher online. Seriously though, you are awesome don't know why people need to bitch about little things like 10 second adds before a video

  • this lick is based around whole tone scale, it is mainly used over altered dominant chord, which in this video would be A7#5

  • ALL YOU GUYS THAT HATE THE ADS

Watch the vids on the web site and there are no pre-roll ads!!!!

It's a better all round experience anyway, so I don't know why people insist on watching them here on YouTube unless they just found them...

  • @JustinSandercoe you can also install a program, which is called adblock plus. it´s freeware and its very cool. if you install this program you havent got ads on the web!

  • Syd Barrett played Prisms..

  • @04callwilk1 Syd Barrett saw prisms...just saying.

  • shit, my guitar is fucket on 2nd string at 7th fret, any helpers ;/ ?

  • 2:08 there the lesson starts ;d

  • Cool lick. Zappa is a hero of mine, and he was all about the atonal. I can see this having nice jazz applications. Thanks!

  • I think this lick consists of alternate whole-tone scales (there are only two in the Western 12-tone scale), which is what makes it sound so trippy! Nice work, Justin! Give your friend some more acid and see what else he come up with! :)

  • circles or squares... ;)

  • I never did no drugs except alcohol, but this solo was trippy as hell :D

Thanks for crazy idea, Justin :)

  • I would really love to see a tutorial for the song I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in, by kenny rogers and the first addition. i see people playing it different ways, and can't seem to connect with one...and i really love and connect with your tutorials. It would be a blessing :)

  • Atonal patterns are a very metal concept. Slayer use them a lot.

  • @SteelSkin667 is that cos metal is fast and the repeating patterns are easier to play fast? or is it more the "scale" that sounds right for metal?

  • @mallamoozoo Both reasons actually! Atonal patterns, because they don't really fit in any scale, can bring a sense of dissonance or chaos in the music and may help to achieve a creepy atmosphere. And with a little practice they may be easy to repeat all over the neck.

  • i laughed so hard at that story

  • super !

  • He must have ate the brown acid

    good lesson thanks

  • sei il massimo ^_^

    from Italy!!

  • this double bend at 4:21 was so badass!

  • I didn't really think this lick would fit into anything but bebop jazz until I heard you work it in a couple of ways at the end. Very groovy.

  • Like you said, too much ACID

  • I show my students the triangles in the Major and Nat Minor scales as a way to help them get around. They are great, use them all the time, and not always the same shape. Just real handy to see music sometimes as a Graphic shape rather than a Line of notes. Brilliant Lesson as always.

  • Greg Ginn plays alot of weird patterns Ive noticed

  • sweet jam with yourself at the end. Really great tone on that guitar too. Smooth going in and out of the lick.

  • sounds like 50s music

  • cool lick, reminds me of a wynton kelly lick only less tonal.

  • You jammed with Sid Barret?

  • Thanks for the tips!

  • did you drop the magic aussie adjective at 1. 30 mate?

  • I think that most of the order on guitar is based on triangles. I noticed that many years ago. Nice lesson.

  • I love this sound

  • Thanks Justin_are those steel frets on your strat !

  • An LSD trip is just chemically induced schitzophrenia. Once I sussed that out I left that crap alone. These days I get high playing. However badly.

  • I remember this song! ....... or am I just recalling a trip I made earlier? 8-)

  • hi Justin, is what key are you playing this scale in? is there any pattern for A for an example?

  • @danny020384 That was a joke right?

  • @danny020384 It doesn't fit into a particular scale. He spends half the video explaining that

  • Cool, Think out of the box :-)

  • I really think I can use this one......fascinating lick ! You could squeeze this one into just about anything.Thank you friend for me.

  • this is like "steve vai lesson" considering how much atonal riffs he uses.

  • @MuseWeezerCool MUSE AND WEEZER!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!

  • I wanna try hexagons!

  • always enjoy all of your vids & tips. Thanks !!!

  • Sounds really jazzy.

  • it just sounds so bad...I LOVE IT!

  • Acid can be helpful if your teacher takes it, then shows you what he learned on his last trip. :)

  • well this definitely needs a context, it doesn't fit over melodic chord progressions, you can play that stuff if you play music like Frank Zappa or something, don't try to incorporate it everywhere because it makes ppls ears tired ;)

  • idear

  • God I love you, man. Your personality, knowledge and talent are so uplifting. Thanks.

  • haha it's so weird! :D i've been doing alot of non-scale-stuff but it doesn't always sound this cool!

  • awesome..

  • mannn, this and chromixo together sounds just magical.

  • Thanks for telling us the interesting tidbit about your friend Justin. Helps me remember this lick as "Justin's (cool) acid friend triangle lick" . I'll play it next time my band breaks out the weed and booze.

  • sounds really zappa to me

  • That's cool, cool idea! :) Sounds great

  • That's cool, cool idea! :)

  • Awesome! Thanks Justin!

  • How about you show us the octagon?

  • I HATE LONG VIDEOS!

  • @zeesanbss I have a solution for you... look at the video link... on the bottom corner, ooop.... would you look at that... it's how long the video goes for.... soooooo if its a bit more than the time you have dedicated to not being an annoying ass-hole, then leave, and be on your merry way... problem solved...

  • Sounds psychedelic.

  • Nice one. Since you're getting into atonality, how about a Sonic Youth riff or two?

  • cool i played this b4

  • 2:40 sounds like lost woods from ocarina of time

  • @JackTheRiipperUK and at 3:35 sounds like that bay where zora died in majoras mask... someone like the triangles :)

  • @xapnsma0123 HAHA omg your right, well the triforce is three triangles so maybe they got their musical inspiration from it

  • Yeah!

  • wtf is in your teeth??

  • Justin whats acid???

  • @verandahs01 LSD

  • I have to admit that I know only one scale: pentatonic. All other things I play are also 'figures' that sound good in certain keys. This was a very usefull lesson Justin!

  • @sander151187 you should really learn the major scale

  • @Ignore14 Maybe I already know the major scale, but only as a 'pattern'. ;)

  • I've always played notes myself that don't fit but sound good and have felt guilty for not sticking to the rules. It's good to hear Justin giving this kind of thing his blessing lol. Great lesson.

  • Comment removed

  • man... i'm just playing the triangles

  • Justin I love you man, just wish you wouldn't talk so much. It took 33% of video before the lesson started. lol I know, I should shut up and just be grateful....good lesson

  • Haha! This is great. I really liked this lesson. It was interesting.

  • Saria's Song :D

  • im going to play in circles now.. this is some cool shit

  • best lesson

  • I love experimenting and finding weird things like this. Sweet jam at the end there too!

  • Interesting story.

  • Wicked, thank you too much, cool story! you are thr man! Cool shAPE=)
