I wish this were avaialbe on DVD-have been looking and searching everywhere. One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES. Viper's drag, mean to me, this joint is jumping; the list goes on and on
I was fortunate enough to be living in the heart of Manhattan when Ain't Misbehavin' hit broadway in 1978. I was 27 and studying theatre. I heard about the show on the radio and rushed out to see it. Needless to say, I was blown away. It really altered my life and was the only Broadway show I ever paid full price to see more than once. I still can't believe that Nell Carter is gone, and I still cry. Those were five of the most talent people I've ever seen on one stage at the same time.
You know its very interesting. Black Musicals in general are fierce. I say this because they work hard to show the white audience that YES, they can do the same.
Nell is missed. I'm a NY producer and met her in Washington DC after the show and she pulled me into her for a hug I'll never forget. - what a lady. What a pair of "cushions"! She stood at 5 feet tall. Lost her way too soon - so talented and just a wondeful human being. I work with many stars, some are great and really nice - some are not ......and it was a privelege to spend 30 minutes with Nell. RIP. We keep losing so many one of a kind talents. That's life and still hard to accept.
I was only able to find the video on ebay, and it's worth every penny. I've watched it dozens of times and cried every time. It was taped for a TV special in 1982. Luck ME - I saw the original cast live on Broadway TWICE in 1978. For nearly 30 years I believed it had never been videotaped. After Nell Carter's death, I was heartbroken thinking it had never been captured on video, but it has been. Try ebay. You can find the audio CD of the original broadway cast quite easily (try amazon).
I really love nell carter also in her production of it and I have been looking everywhere for it too,but I will try ebay and cross my fingers that it is in the price range I could afford to pay right now....
ABSOLUTELY Amazing!!! thank you for posting. Do you have any more of the original cast? Or does anyone know where I can get an original recording? (e-mail me)

@1000piecepuzzle Try contacting Bravo. They use to play it a lot on there, and would sell copies of certain broadcast.
