  • Great footage ! It brings back memories...Lola T70,Porsche 906,908,911,

    Chevron,AR 33/2,Lancia Barchetta,Fulvia Zagato....

People watching risking nearly as much as the drivers...no major accidents though if memory serves.Someone did really love the Targa up there....

    Thx for sharing !

  • Thanks for posting this. Also I am glad you did not edit the classic projector sound and add some shitty music instead.

This video is very nostalgic. Awesome.

  • Ojalá regresase esta carrera, junto a la Mille Miglia...

  • @vrimi79 Its a 10 lap race on a 45 mile track in the last years. Its not time trial, you can see some overtaking in the video.

  • Racing the way it was meant to be. On real roads

  • Le corse più belle del mondo erano la Mille Miglia, la Targa Florio e La 24 Ore di LeMans. Sono la storia dell'automobilismo sportivo.

  • you could have shown us some of the women cause fuck me the cars were amazing! that clip is dead set cooler than polar bear shit...also i loved it!

  • I love the 8mm sound reminds me of my home movies ,doin't change it

  • Turn the sound off! There's nothing there apart from projector noise. Sorry (yet again)!

    Hope you enjoyed it anyway.

  • whats that stupid noise for??

  • This is absolutely fantastic! I love the colors - the world never looked so good as it did through Ektachrome!. I love your analog to digital conversion method. This film is good enough that you might consider having it professionally transferred. It might remove the vignetting around the edges and give you a little better contrast. Very nice, as is, though.

  • 1:53- Porsche 907, 'Gerd' Koch and H-D Dechent, think they ended at pos 6., behind is #274 Porsche 908/02 Porsche works, Hans Herrmann and

Rolf Stommelen.. ended at pos 3 on lap time 6:21:26.7!

  • Superb footage! How cool it must have been to see almost full on Lemans cars zooming up your local main strada! B¬)

Thankfully, it is still used in the Italian Rally Champoinship. Thanks for sharing DrBGW

Take a look at the Wiki page. Someone has built a slot car tribute to the Targa Florio!

  • thanks for posting!!! Only the great Vic Elford is not to see, he was the best!!!

    Stay healthy Vic

  • As a time trial type of race. Overtaking a bit difficult!

  • It was a round of the then World Sportscar Championship........same as le Mans 24hr, Spa 1000km,etc...but errrm.....just around the mountains of Sicily.....no pressure then....!!

  • It still is used, but in rally racing

  • Impresionante vídeo, magníficos coches... En fin, 10 sobre 10

  • Thank you very much!

    Brian

  • The blue Chevron at 4:27 hit the Armco just down the "track" from where we were watching and lost the fender.

  • At first I was annoyed that this is a low quality video of original film footage, but after watching just a few seconds of it... It is a very charming experience to see it as it was seen then. Thank You!!

  • Thanks for watching. I know it is low quality: please see my comments about the quality (three months ago), for which I make no apology. Getting these things done professionally is expensive, I might get it done one day (or sell it...).

    Brian

  • Thank you for sharing. I think the quality is not bad at all. No flickering, vibrant colors, you did a great job.

  • In the days before EU regulations this must have been a great spectator sportshame it had to die back in 1977.

Thank you for posting this piece of history that is what Youtube is about.

  • I was at this race. I was stationed at NAF Sigonella and a friend and I went up for the weekend.

  • Super 8??

  • Yes, it is,and it has been digitised by projecting it on to a screen and filming that. There are all sorts of errors there, and it would be much better (and expensive) to have it done professionally. One day...

  • GREAT footage!! ... makes my blood race lol ... Thnx :)

  • Real race era...

  • Look at the guys on the tree at 1:17 :-D

  • Abarth 2000 quattrofari at 2:25

  • perchè non corrono di nuovo questi magnifici bolidi?...qualcuno ci sarà ancora...

  • those spectators were taking some big risks.....some of those cars were slipping as it was, just a small little thing goes wrong and a lot of them could have been hurt.

  • Fantastic!

  • Gotta love the White Porsche 911 powersliding @ 2:07... Thanks for sharing such a great footage! =)

  • The circuit is still used for rally.

  • I nominate the good Doctor for THE BEST racing footage on Youtube. Any seconds???

  • YOU were at the Targa Florio? Ok, you're killing me!!!

  • BEAUTIFUUUULLLL!!!!!!!!! Please, watch my new vídeo " tribute ignazio giunti " .

    Thanksssss!!!!

  • That's my father in the Chevron. Fantastic! x

  • Would you like a still from the movie (better resolution than on YouTube)?

  • If you can, thanks!

  • Send me your email address, and the car number, and where it appears...

  • Great footage of the old 911 in action. Thanks for posting!

  • Grazie per aver messo questo video!!!!!!!!1

  • che video spettacolare! La Targa è sempre la Targa!

  • Sounds like a sewing machine! Good Lord!

  • Great footage, but what an anoying sound...

  • Insane race but totally cool.

  • great post

Me and my dad are going to go down there and trace the routes and drive them :)

well in a couple of years anyway

  • My son & I hope to do the same one day.I recall reading about the race in Motor Sport mag (no TV,etc in those days)Have been fan Nino Vacarella / 512S ever since! Its one unticked box left in my life!!If God was a sportscar driver He would do this race!!

  • Fantastic footage, much better on broadband.

  • The sound reminds me of my school days, when we were taken to the "film room". I only wish they had shown stuff like this back then. Motorsport is always interesting. And thank you for posting this material.

  • That Lola T70 getting sideways at around 2:36 is tough! Great, great stuff here, thanks so much for posting!

  • beautyful i can almost hear the sound of the engines and mell the rubber.

  • This is so incredible - thanks for posting!

  • Beau-ti-ful ! Thanks for sharing this.

  • Beautiful footage!, anyone got any information on the chopped Lancia, no. 237?

  • was the fulvia prototipo , only made 2 or 3 of them, competing also at 1000km nürburgring the same year.

  • Also note the Lancia Zagatos. As I recall there were a couple entered by Jolly Club.

  • thank you for posting this video - I love the history of sports cars and racing!!!

    thanks again!

  • Very nice !!

  • This is an awesome piece of vintage racing history! Thank you!!! Too bad there was no sound then...

  • Wow this is brilliant, the alfa 33/2 'daytona' coupe is my favourite, along with the delicate looking ferrari 206sp which i have never seen in period racing footage before. the 908s look the part, so do the little lancia zagatos battling with the TR4s in the lower classes. just great, thanks for the fab post, i was born too late to witness the golden age of open road endurance racing.

  • Fabulous footage. The Porsche 908s look beautiful.

Shame we don't get to see Vic Elford's infamous charge!

  • Beautiful!

  • Awesome footage. Great presentation. I play it with iTunes in the background and the projector sound. Love the Super 8! Best racing footage I've seen!

  • Really frightening today.looking at people unconsciously standing so close to the cars (which already were very fast as Porsche 906/907 Alfa R.33 Lola T70 and others) = Someone loved the Targa up there!

    Grateful for rarest post= Thx=

  • Fantastic post, cheers for that mate. Classic. Good steady camera work there. I take it that the noise is your projector.

  • Yes, sorry: I'm an amateur at this, forgot to disable sound. The quality is much better projected than it is here!

    Cheers,

    Brian

  • Actually dont disable the sound, its in keeping with film, time etc. I used to watch my dads home made cine films and love the sound of the projector, so let be!!
