Um, realising, eh, money, money was the thing, I mean, eh, but I don’t, I don’t, I don’t, I can’t really remember no affection... in the family. Um, I’d get persecuted for anything at all that went wrong, I mean, um... eh, it was really crooked and warped I suppose - a really nasty childhood. Because, yeah, I think, you see, there were a few characters in the family who was spoilt, who were sort of, um... eh, well, loved I suppose. And I was just stood around watching it all happen.
And I was the only one really, this is as I got on to about six and seven, who was doin’ crime, who was going out and stealing and giving my parents money.
It’s called creeping, because, the general idea is you have to creep out into the back room of the shop, where the cloakroom is, where, like, there might be a little safe, um, cash tins. You have to creep out there, take whatever you could and then go again while the older people are taking up the shop assistant’s time.
But, yeah, it was, um, exciting, at such a young age, eh, that’s, that’s why, I suppose it was so easy. Because it was excitement, it was just like on the telly. A little thief, a little bit of respect instantly, Even other people who sort of, eh, knew you was a thief they’d sort of come over all friendly and everything. Instant recognition, I suppose, as soon as someone comes a thief.
Yeah, I got left alone, I got my little peace and quiet. I was tricked into believing it was ever so exciting, and great, and you grow up to be a big hard man. Then as I went on, I got arrested again; that was with, eh, an older person, an older bloke.
It was like a three month sentence, so you is, a ‘short sharp shock’ they say. It was as well, I hated the place, I did, I hated the place. It was just so different. You had to be doing something, like, it was, the authority was very strict, and you was, you was banged away, you was locked in.
The offences that followed that then was, I got a twelve month for burglary, and then, after that one, they did me for going equipped. You pay the fullest price when, when you’re in prison. I mean, mentally, your mind starts… starts to change. I mean, being in a confined space, a little space and you knows you’re in there for months at a time… You really do, start to, sort of, um, let the mind take over. The mind do get the better of you.
People, people, people are so, so easily fooled, I suppose, because prison, what prison really is, what prison really means, is you could be living with three right smelly people, you got to smell their shit, you got to listen to them piss, You got this foul stink in the room, they’re all farting, they’re all burping and picking. That’s what prison is - you got to wait for some seventy year old man to slop out. And, and the stink in the morning is, is disgusting.
I, I was guilty virtually all the times, all the times I, I’ve been guilty. I mean that’s something I can’t deny myself, like. I mean, eh, I suppose even now, like, there’s things that’s happening that isn’t too honest, that isn’t really a hundred percent legit. But it gets me by without, without doing real crime, without doing crime crime… I mean, life, life goes on, as they say. I mean you have to survive.
without this fantastic animation, this transcript would be much less interesting. The film really shows a lot of sympathy for the character. We have just studied this in english and had t write a long essay about all the symbolism.. really amazing!
This is one of the best "aardman classics", the DVD compilation includes the much loved "Creature Comforts", the hilariously clever "Pib and Pog", the story of two brothers, strangely united in "Wat's Pig", the intelligently animated "Owzat", the dark thriller "Babylon" and random conversation pieces put to bloody talented animation. Each short is buzzing with ideas and clever humour certain to delight a patient audience. Top-notch entertainment, generally suitable for the more mature audience.
umm a salesman came to the door of an elderly couple and tried to sell them things out of a black suitcase. the decined in the end and the salesman walks away. I can't remeber much more sorry, I havn't seen it for12 years or so. I'll have a look on the intenet anyway, see if I can stream it from anywhere.
I think it was called Sales Pitch...I videoed it off the telly when it was shown but lost it ages ago.Well worth a watch if it can be uploaded by anyone out there!
The lighting and atmosphere of the whole scene is so outstanding, really makes you appreciate the depth and care that defines aardman

That’s what prison’s really about. I mean, people seems to think that prison’s a generally happy life when it’s a foul, dirty, dirty life.

Really fantastic. I watched this as a child, and now it's an inspiration for my English Language A level Creative Writing Coursework.

I loved the Aardman shorts. This one in particular is very depthful. Unlike things like War Story I'm glad they didn't add humour to it.

this is what makes aardman so much deeper and greater than greedy commercial companies like disney or dreamworks. great work aardman.
