Summary (what I get, at least): So the guy is in late to work, and he's trying to think of a plan to get by without the boss yelling at him. Well, he's standing right there at his desk, too, so he needs to think quick. So, he decides to pretend to be in a very important phone call of some sort, presumably business, and sort of brushes off his boss, hoping that he'll leave, giving him more time to think of an excuse.
