@MichaelSmithMichael pretty much everything in East Asia is of Chinese origin. no one is contesting that Gagaku is the "Ngangak" (mandarin yayue) that was played in the Han and Tang Dynasties (korean A'ak, Vietnamese Nha Nhac, were taken from this tradition too). However, this is a Japanese variation, a sound that has become unique....though it still sounds similar to Chinese court music, it's colder in tone, almost icy. The Chinese yayue has a more earthy sound, though still very austere.

I usually enjoy things like that. I remember hearing traditional music on a New Years celebration video that had a cat on it.
