I have to join in on the fun here. I raced a (guessing the year) 88 mustang 5.0 in my 03 eclipse with only an exhaust and cold air intake at the time. pulled on him. anything prior to the 5th generation mustangs i can pull on. My prelude on the other hand pulls a lot harder. It's a 94 Si with an H22a swapped in, an lsd tranny, and a full exhaust. i'd pick the prelude any day for reliability and power over a GT.

And third, you're wondering how a car with that much less power won? Its called torque multiplication. The prelude has way shorter gears than the mustang. Which is also the reason the mustang started to creep on him at the end. Because the mustang has the torque to pull the car in the higher gears. More so than the prelude.

im a ford guy ill be one to say ludes pull pretty good in there vtecs,im having problems believing the stang is a 5 speed though...i dont see any drop off from the front end the whole time..if only if it is a. auto i know where the problem started at the launch.. stang starts to spin and the car shifts into second at too low of an rpm and its catch up the whole time but the winnier is still the stang...IMHO it came back and passed the lude before either one let off....

I love both Honda and Mustangs to death, but you can't deny quality engineering vs crap - the engines aren't why I love Ford.

Yeah I'm not certain it was a manny. Not easy to tell but it never looks like the front end squats, which is a common occurance during shifting. If it was an automatic, then it changes quite a bit since that generation of Mustang can be many shifted much faster then the auto can shift.

Finally someone with a rational reason. See even though Vtec applies power throughout a large bandwidth (impressive for a 4 banger) it doesn't quite make it the deciding factor in the faster car. The Prelude has less parasitic loss being FWD and is best matched with it's 6spd taking better advantage of the higher RPM power but the Mustang has more power without weighing much more. If the driver can't shift then it's a slower driver, not a slower car.

Slow GT. A friend of mine just bought an '04 GT. The dealer he got it from had 2 of them and he drove both, both 4.6L/5 speed cars. One of them wouldn't even spin the tires and was a dog, the other one ripped the tires off first gear and spun all of second gear also, with 275 series tires. Only mods were intake plenum and cat back exhaust. Point being, there are fast GTs and there are slow GTs. The GT in this video was a slow GT. H22 Prelude is a 15 second car....
The H22a needs the H23 trans. I had a '91 accord with h23 trans and h22a engine and could keep up with a '97 cobra with bolt-ons and no gears easy. Once he got gears he was walking me, but still, the guy in the video needs to get a different tranny his gears are too short.

i owned a 99 prelude and now own a stock 2003 mustang gt. THERE IS NO COMPARISON! The GT is MUCH FASTER and it's still stock! There is no way 200 hp/ 160 tq can beat 265 hp/ 305 tq. granted, the mustang weighs slightly more. this race was clealy driver error on the mustang's part. he was probably in fourth gear the whole time lol.

@lilspeedy32 because more cylinders general means more displacement, and with more displacement comes more potential for power, you wouldn't expect the mustang to be such a terribly engineered fat ton of shit that it can just keep up to a vehicle with less then half the displacement and nearly half the torque. but then again their weights aren't that far apart, the guy with the stang probably cant shift worth shit and that's probably what did it, but that's expected with ford drivers
Stock for stock the GT should be 0.7-1.0 quicker in the quarter. Either car can be made to perform very well with some $ and mods. It's not about which car is better, its about what you like and which platform you prefer to go with. I have an 01 Mustang GT, bolt ons, gears, tune and it runs around a 13.4. This will completely toast an H22 Prelude, but one could take the Prelude and get similar numbers with the right mods.
@1993hondaaccord 3.73 made by Ford Racing. To me, gears and tune are a must, and a good exhaust, if for nothing but the sound. The bottlneck in the 99-04 GT are the heads, so you're not going to do anything real crazy with the stock heads unless you supercharge, but for around $1000 the gears and tune will easily get you into the 13's
Post a video to back up that claim. I read posts all the time with people saying they beat evos, stis, mustangs, firebirds in their civic/corolla/whatever.

Yeah I'm not certain it was a manny. Not easy to tell but it never looks like the front end squats, which is a common occurance during shifting. If it was an automatic, then it changes quite a bit since that generation of Mustang can be many shifted much faster then the auto can shift.

Finally someone with a rational reason. See even though Vtec applies power throughout a large bandwidth (impressive for a 4 banger) it doesn't quite make it the deciding factor in the faster car. The Prelude has less parasitic loss being FWD and is best matched with it's 6spd taking better advantage of the higher RPM power but the Mustang has more power without weighing much more. If the driver can't shift then it's a slower driver, not a slower car.

Slow GT. A friend of mine just bought an '04 GT. The dealer he got it from had 2 of them and he drove both, both 4.6L/5 speed cars. One of them wouldn't even spin the tires and was a dog, the other one ripped the tires off first gear and spun all of second gear also, with 275 series tires. Only mods were intake plenum and cat back exhaust. Point being, there are fast GTs and there are slow GTs. The GT in this video was a slow GT. H22 Prelude is a 15 second car....

The H22a needs the H23 trans. I had a '91 accord with h23 trans and h22a engine and could keep up with a '97 cobra with bolt-ons and no gears easy. Once he got gears he was walking me, but still, the guy in the video needs to get a different tranny his gears are too short.

i owned a 99 prelude and now own a stock 2003 mustang gt. THERE IS NO COMPARISON! The GT is MUCH FASTER and it's still stock! There is no way 200 hp/ 160 tq can beat 265 hp/ 305 tq. granted, the mustang weighs slightly more. this race was clealy driver error on the mustang's part. he was probably in fourth gear the whole time lol.

@lilspeedy32 because more cylinders general means more displacement, and with more displacement comes more potential for power, you wouldn't expect the mustang to be such a terribly engineered fat ton of shit that it can just keep up to a vehicle with less then half the displacement and nearly half the torque. but then again their weights aren't that far apart, the guy with the stang probably cant shift worth shit and that's probably what did it, but that's expected with ford drivers

Stock for stock the GT should be 0.7-1.0 quicker in the quarter. Either car can be made to perform very well with some $ and mods. It's not about which car is better, its about what you like and which platform you prefer to go with. I have an 01 Mustang GT, bolt ons, gears, tune and it runs around a 13.4. This will completely toast an H22 Prelude, but one could take the Prelude and get similar numbers with the right mods.

@1993hondaaccord 3.73 made by Ford Racing. To me, gears and tune are a must, and a good exhaust, if for nothing but the sound. The bottlneck in the 99-04 GT are the heads, so you're not going to do anything real crazy with the stock heads unless you supercharge, but for around $1000 the gears and tune will easily get you into the 13's
