  • @WARBRINGER711 its from the book Treasure Island :)

  • Gangplank would be proud. ^^

  • @Yabier11 hey can you possibly tell me where you got this song? i cant find it anywhere....

  • yawning hole: When a man yawns, he opens his mouth as much as he cannot do it in real life. A yawning hole means a deep and wide hole, like a yawning mouth.

  • It is possible to find some relationship between tavern songs and pirate songs? I´m trying to imagine the songs that Almirante Brown´s croud could sing at the XIX century...

  • This is just the opposite of Disney´s pirate songs

  • A yawing Hole in someones head would be a deep wound. Like taking a pistol blast to the face. That sort of wound.

  • Sounds kinda like Patrick Stewart singing with'em.

  • Can you tell me where you found that picture

  • hehehe, I'm reading treasure island right now. :D

  • Where can i download this song ? Can anyone Post the link or something

  • Bottle of rum in me right now!

  • I was borned too late :S

  • The movement in the pic was freaking me out!!! lol

  • something moves i the pic!!

  • For reference, it's "in a boozing den" (ie a bar/pub) rather than "boozing ken", which is the drunken belief that you know everything or nearly so.

And strictly speaking, the abbreviation of Boatswain has an apostrophe: Bo'sun.

I'll also note I prefer the version written/performed for the BBC Video adaptation of Treasure Island to this one. Not quite the same lyrics as this version (in fact vastly different), but it was the version my granda taught me. That's personal preference though.

  • "Pirate" should be a musical genre. If it was (or is, and I am merely misinformed), it would be my favorite. I've always loved the idea of being a sailor.

  • Please stop messaging me about placing links or ads in my videos. Some users and Youtube itself have done it but as long as I can this one and all my videos will still ad-free. Thanks!

  • @Yabier11 Why would you even post that in the comment section?

  • we sang this for our musical last week :P

  • Who here loves rum ?

  • Is it Patrick Steward who sings? Sounds like him... Captain Picard :P

  • Captain Jack Sparrow killed 42 people.

  • great song

  • could you pls loop this, i would not like to rape my replay button and timer any more ;)

  • @abcdefckk just add repeat before youtube on the url ;)

  • i bet if the captain ordered...you'd quickly find choir within a crew lol

  • 41 people drunk to much rum and missed the like button

  • 41 people aren't man enough to drink rum

  • This is the Roger Wagner Chorale. Don't doubt it!

  • Very good pirate song was also in soviet film of 1937 "Treasure island". Type 'Treasure island 1937" on youtube to listen

  • i beleive it is spelled Boatswain not bosun

  • @Domicrow1 Bosun is the accepted shortening of it, just as mains'l is the mainsail.

  • @5hadowflam3 I always thought bosun was an americanism. But then I sailed "Bosun" dinghies which apparently were designed for the Royal Navy, so I guest it must be an acceptable alternative to boatswain in British English as well.

    Either way, good song.

  • cant get enough of this

  • yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

  • lol ich hab sicher 1min gbraucht um zu blicken was das im hintergrund ist^^

  • *-*

  • This song reminds me of the fact that the rum is gone. Why is it always gone????

  • no, i think of a spike used to splice line, and "bosun" is spelled boatswain

  • Sorry if this sounds immature, but does anyone else, upon hearing the word Marlinspike, think only of the home of the Tintin character Captain Haddock?

  • and also the meaning of " the scuppers glut with a rotting red " too thx

  • can somebody explain what means " yawing hole" ? thanks for your time

  • @234xy I think it's 'yawning', like 'cavernous' or simply 'deep' (I'm Spaniard, sorry).

  • @Yabier11 thanks! and what about this " battered head" you see i'm italian so i've a lot of problem about the understanding of the structure of a english sentence XD

  • @234xy

Battered is used like "beaten", so someone who's been bashed, punched, hit with a bat. Head is head, skull.

Don't worry about not understanding quickly, English people have lots of trouble understanding the structure of an English sentence. It's English. :P

  • @Yabier11 Yawning hole in a skull is the lyric Yawning hole- Gaping hole meaning a smashed skull try to translate a whole sentence not a few words narrows down meanings

  • @Yabier11 You are correct a yawning hole is a deep hole in the ship usually a cargo hold that can be covered. Yawning in this case means a a square hole made by a pick ax or boarding ax. A deep square hole.

  • @Yabier11 It means wide and gaping. It can simply mean 'large hole'.

  • @234xy klaffendes loch - yawning hole... im german

  • @234xy maybe in english u would say like gaping hole... but after all it means a fresh bullet hole in the head

  • @234xy The correct meaning of the word is the sort of "holes" the ship's cannons protrude from :)

  • @234xy . I believe the song saud 'Yawning hole'. and when they say 'yawning hole' they mean a gaping hole that is made when a bulllet, or an explosive is shot, and goes, quite literally straight through someone. if you've played games, or seen walls that sport large holes caused by explosives, or gunfire, that's a 'yawning hole'. It's called a yawning hoe because the hole is similar in size when someone yawns when they are tired, or fatigued. Ah, and Yabier11 has the simplified version.

  • @234xy ifu got to ask then u musent know ?

  • @234xy a hole basicly so a hole in the head

  • @234xy To yaw is a nautical term where the boat goes momentarily off course, such as when hit by a large wave, a yawing motion would be a side to side movment by the prow of the ship. As this is a nautical song this is perhaps the better description of the word "yaw" so perhaps a yawing hole as a wound but be an off centre gash, but it is a very descriptive word so could encompass the cavernous and deep meaning at one and the same time?

  • @jonjamg that is a great solution to the " meaning problem " i think you're right! thx!

  • This version is sung by the Robert Shaw Chorale I think.

  • @PG19011975 That's what I said in the first video description, but @IUFTR helped to make it clear.

  • @PG19011975 Wrong! Roger Wagner Chorale!

  • La mejor version

  • Love it! That's all i have to say. :)

  • pensei que tampa da pia ia soltar e o barquinho afundar !!! hahaha genial!!!!!!!!

  • one second ago i was watching a midget stab a guy with a fork how am i here?!

  • This song makes me think of classic cartoony disney animated drunken pirates singing and partying in their boat.

  • I don't mean to be offensive. To the singing group who obviously have talent.

This song was for drunken murderous pirates. It was meant to be sung operatic style. Only the deepest baratone voices should be used for best affect. You have the feeling that a dark haired devilish murdering guy is about to slit your throat and steal you bag O gold.

  • Yo! Ho! Ho! and the bottle of rum!!!

  • You found the right one and the opra virson!! intresting.

  • #15Piraten (In german parliament of the city of berlin there are 15 elected members of the pirate party :) )

  • @CuteKittyMailler Please read the complete description.

  • @CuteKittyMailler actually there were; these songs were sung by the entire working party, although not throughout the entire song, I'll give ya that, but being a shanty an entire working party would sing it to keep the rythme of the work right

  • @CuteKittyMailler what are you talking about everyone knows pirates where a merry band who sang in choirs when they weren't killing and raping

  • @CuteKittyMailler yeah, there were no choirs onboard. Instead they had a 100 drunk men. And who are you to say if this version is "inaccurate" or not? Were you there to listen to the real ones?

  • @CuteKittyMailler yeah, there were no choirs onboard. Instead they had a 100 drunk men. And who are you to say if this version is "inaccurate" or not? Were you there to listen to the real ones?

  • @CuteKittyMailler Yes there were, there were musicians in pirate crews whose jobs were to play during launch and whenever they felt like it after that....get your facts straight pl0x

  • @CuteKittyMailler Mate, were you on a pirate ship?

  • hey bladekempmusic... it's Have presnell not patrick stewart.... and this is not from the pirates of penzanse it's a lot OLDER than that... it's from ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSONS BOOK...TREASURE ISLSND IN WRITTEN 1883... it's a sea shanty from the book...

  • btw the greatest pirate was english henry tudor aka black beard was born in york

  • @kenoki2010

  • Femten mann på en død manns kiste.... hei og hå og ei flaske med rom. :)

  • can you tell me where i can download this song?

  • 33 people walked the plank!

  • All people who think Pirates are barbaric and like thieves, you're wrong in a pesific way! pirates actually had a code of honor and when they signed the captains contract to become one of hes/shes mate they had to obey the rules of the ship! Even a pirate captain (Who i have forgot the of) actually was like a gentlemen, he even had his own priest on the ship, he even had a rule that everyone was going to bed at KL. 20.00! AND that every weapon on the ship had to be clean! VERY clean!

  • @LeoLionPaws Also, they pretty much invented democracy.

  • @FelixBrahh Yep, that too!

  • many people think be a pirate was cool, but wasn't cool. they was like pigs and killers

  • Thanks to Jack Sparrow people now look Pirates in a different way also !!! :)

  • @wamblingfuture CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow :)

  • that's metal!

  • 33 people aren't pirates

  • @SkyGanko

I'm fairly certain pirates were as heartless as their modern equivalents. They killed and raped as they pleased, and the untold horrors they committed upon royal officials, or any that crossed their path at that, were countless, as was to be expected of them. A grand majority of the olden pirates weren't as successful as you make them out to be, only the the most able crews lived through it all, and by the end of the pirate age, they'd all been killed by a more competent Royal Navy.

  • @Hoohking11 Like I said. I could be completely wrong and it seems I was. Sadly none of us possess a time machine to go back to that time and see pirates in action. So I'll stick with my happy romantic vision of pirates, even though the truth seems more obvious like you explained Hoohking11.

  • I wish these pirates come back and teach those black somalians how to steal a ship.

  • @RussianSoldat100 eric cartman did

  • The hairs are standing up on my neck :3

  • since Robberts was the most ehm productive:) he was the most feared, but in sheer brutality and sadis`m henry morgan or ned love beats him right down davy jones locker:) try google most brutal pirates, and see for yourself. No doubt in my mind, that Flint is a mix of ned love, and robberts.Btw speaking of the most succesfull,Morgan actually died of age, knighted by Elizabeth.Better than a rope isn`t it?:)

  • This is a flying spaggety monster hymn.

  • try check out ned love and ask again, who was the most brutal pirate of all time:) not the most succesfull, course no one comes even close to robberts, but in sheer brutality Flint must be a mix of love and roberts:)
