Hey man, how you liking Opeth style playing? It offers a unique variety of guitar and bass transactions over Tool, don't get me wrong, Tool's my band.... but Opeth is my favorite band. I play guitar/ lead vocals for my band, not like opeth, but inspiration by Opeth.
@InTylersRoom1 Thanks man. I really enjoy playing Opeth Bass and Guitar. I will do some guitar covers soon but still working on my chops. :) I really like the Opeth bass lines. It has made me a way better bass player to learn finger style. I get better every day at keeping my right hand loose and fluid, although i still like to play geddy style with one finger. :) Opeth has also forced me to start using all 4 of my left hand fingers and I have been practicing scales for the first time ever! :)
@TOOLbassplayer Yeah dude, you got it, I used to watch your videos whenever i first started playing bass, and learn. I understand exactly what you mean with the 4 fingers man, when Tool uses pretty much only 2- 3 at max, you can loosin up the talent that has been held back, by which I mean the fact of 4 fingers. I can really relate to the going to finger picking, I mean its not like us Tool bassist cant play that.... but you know, we choose not to. Maybe we can get together like you have on Your
@TOOLbassplayer Full band Tool covers... and do some Opeth ones with me either rhythm or lead and vocals... Ill post some of my screaming and shit hopefully soon, and you can check em out, and see whats up, I see you scream a little, and it sounds fine for me never had heard you scream or sing, lol. But yeah man, totally get at me, and I'm looking forward to some new posts. I really appreciate your posting your covers and Other vids, keep rockin bro.
@TOOLbassplayer I've been playing finger style a lot too while learning a lot of Opeth(my favorites to play are Advent their older stuff, new stuff is awesome too though). When I practice now on my right hand technique I try to put in equal time pick and fingers. Your videos are very ideal to watch when you know how to play both styles, but want to sharpen your technique, and clean it up. Post more videos damnit! :)
Hey Brad, you've had your GL bass for a while now. If you had it to do over would you buy it again? I'm thinking of getting one. What do you like and dislike about it?
@LTLfilms I will check it out. I have a picture of the band signed by all four of them. I also have the Lateralus Vinyl record signed by all four of them and it is still sealed in it's original plastic! I am holding on to that baby! :)
You made my day sir. This is one of my absolute favorite opeth songs and you nailed it! Fabulous work as usual :) For a potential next opeth vid, I'd recommend doing Advent or Reverie/Harlequin Forest. Those two have great bass lines! Anyways, can't wait for your next performance!
