  • Ok, kabutosgal, here's the story.. "Satchmo" was Louis Armstrong's nickname. In THIS song, Stevie Wonder pronounces is Satch-a-moe to create a syncopated rhythm.. Likewise, "Sir Duke" is referring to Duke Ellington. If you think you don't know Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, I'll bet you do ;) Look for "wonderful world" on here, it probably sounds familiar! Another great one to listen to is Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington doing 'It ain't got a thing'

  • thanks i needed that :)

  • @Freezefrost3 MGM XD

  • love this song especially the beginning...music is a world within itself with a language we all understand :)) <3

  • "...with an equal opportunity for all to sing, dance and clap their hands!"

  • Breaking it down:

    Basie: Count Basie

    Satchmo: Louis Armstrong

    Miller: Glenn Miller

    Sir Duke: Duke Ellington

    Four big band leaders.

Ella is Ella Fitzgerald, a jazz singer who pretty much popularized scat, as did Satchmo.

  • thanks!

  • Moe is a guy from the simpsons

  • Stevie may sing it like that, but Louis Armstrong's nickname was "Satchmo".

  • @kabutosgal

actually, it's Satchmo. There are no spaces, there's no A between "satch" and "mo" and there is no E on the end. Satchmo's real name is Louis Armstrong.
