Dear Mr Benway. I have a city&guilds level 2 in C++ programming. It is not very difficult to write simple routines in C. It is very similar to BASIC in execution, structure and layout. One line in BASIC is equal to 2 lines in C. It is just like BASIC only slightly harder. All you require is confidence. If you can write simple BASIC programs, then you write simple C programs.
Got every single issue, including when it was ST/AMIGA format...I bought practically every amiga and multi-format maf going, ACE The Games Machine, THE ONE etc...
sadly I did have to dispose of many many mags when moving, including long forgotten weeklys like popular computing - loft was practically collapsing! But I kept those...plus a large collection of vintage PCW and C&VG...
You jammy ?$%&# I wished I could have found that lot, I had a few but not many, which got thrown in the trash. If you have any doubles of games for A600 that you don't want please, let me know.
Very nice haul there. These are the sort of thing I loved to collect. I have all but 2 of Amiga Format, and all of Amiga Power, which, to me, still stands as the greatest games mag of all time.
There is, though, a certain sadness I think in seeing how these mags slowly died, getting thinner, and really reaching for content toward the end, reflecting the decline of the system. Progress really can be a bitch at times :)
I threw loads of those out years ago. However, I did find a site a couple of months ago called 'The Amiga Magazine Rack' which contains tens of thousands of scanned pages of Amiga mags from all over the world. Think all the Amiga Formats are up there with all the cover disks in ADF format for download. It be here...
Hey Steve. I've been thinking about doing a "What was up today" on Retrogamersunited . com - with like releases of consoles and stuff. I have a stack of Amig Format so I might use that too. Good tip!
What a brilliant pick up. Notice B-17 on one of the cover Disks =). I had some Amiga Format, Amiga Fun and Ace mags hanging around the house ten years ago, I threw them out!!! =O.
Amiga Format was the best Amiga magazine back in the day. I remember it being a really thick mag, full of interesting stuff, and with great cover disks.
I also threw away 2 tons of magazines, which I now regret, because I really enjoy reading old magazines now. I still have some magazine collections, most notably Super Play, which is my favourite magazine of all time.
Nice pickups Steve and for free! Excellent AF coverdisks I had some of those disks and I may in fact still have some of them up in the loft. C for Amiga that is interesting, I always wanted to learn C but never got around to it. I chucked my AF magazine out also, gutted now though. Those AF magazines are fantastic and should take pride of place in a shelf if you have the room. :-)
As I'm just getting back to retro gaming, I'm noticing that Amiga may have been more popular in Europe than America? Had a Amiga 500 once, and it had little support or software for it here in the States.
@tgaskill The Amiga was very successful in Europe, most notably in the UK and Germany, whereas in the US, they didn't even release the upgraded 500+ with its improved chips, memory and OS.
This model wasn't a huge success over here, but what it meant was that when programmers started to take advantage of these features, no US owners could play such games, and the market there stagnated.
It's because Americans generally had more disposable income, which meant they bought far more PCs than people in the UK. The PC was a big thing in the U.S. , whereas it took until the mid-90s for the PC to start being a normal household item in the UK.
The Amiga was a big thing, because it delivered a lot of power for a great price, and was easy to use. PCs had Hard Drives and more ram, but were very expensive in comparison.
Blimey! this brings the memorys flooding back, I recommend checking out "Revenge of the Mutant Camels" from the mag at 6:18 and also I think the "Myth" disc at 6:21 also included a game called "Biplanes" that kept me and my mates occupied for many an evening.

I loved Amiga Format, I only have a single year's subscription it was seriously expensive to import to the States. If I remember correctly I think I paid around $10-$15 for each issue.
@SteveBenway There were a few here and there but none weren't around as long and had the quality in magazine printing, writing and coverage as Amiga Format.
I love Amiga Format. It's my favourite Amiga magazine. I have a few, but wish I had more. I always enjoy reading through them, very nostalgic & I find Amiga Format far more informative than the rival mags at the time.
Very nice, I like the screen books. The issue with the skull on the red background, I think I have the original software, is it a music program? can't see the name :)
absolutely loved Amiga Format! purchased just about every issue between 92 - 94, as a kid. it was just the best magazine, perfect mix between "serious" amiga applications, hardware and game reviews. those covers bring back great memories!! :-D great stuff!
@MustNotRead I had copies of Amiga Format, CU Amiga, Amiga Computing and Amiga User International, from probably late 92 to early 93, right through until they closed down. Format and CU were my faves, having a very similar approach, and what one didn't cover, the other did.
Great Video. I have got a lot of Amiga magazines and I love reading them. It always makes me laugh looking at the prices of 20 mb hard drives costing £250 etc. brilliant find.
Wow Amiga Format. That's incredible. This will be the ultimate Amiga retro fix. You'll be able to go way back into the late 80's-90's and relive the entire scene! Programs and all. Would love to be able to thumb through those. Incredible.
@markvergeer These go back to around the time that I first heard of Amigas, and a good couple of years before I owned one and got into the scene.... so it'll be quite a learning experience for me :)

If you make a game with those C and AMOS program books. Please upload the ADF files to your website I want to play them already. :P
Hopefully you can make a Lotus 4 how Lotus 3 was supposed to be like with the advanced basic. lol.
