Since you have a brass quintet, percussion and a piano at your disposal I think you could have made it thicker with your counterpoint. Not bad though.
I am also working on a composition at the moment. But it is taking long because of academic reasons. Hopefuly it will be finished by half way through July.
Please upload more of your music! I would love to hear more!
Inspirations: of course, since this was a "tinkering" with 12-tone techniques, I have to include Schoenberg and Berg especially. I didn't really think of any particular composers for this piece- I'm very fond of Bartok and a whole host of the "Greats" of course. But I'm also quite fond of the Beatles and Led Zepplin, Cream, etc., and one of the things I try to achieve in my music is a sort of recognition that many styles now exist and can all cohabit our musical landscape.
"False Prophecies," there was a sort-of loose "program" about two personalities who drift apart, and the plurality of styles you hear reflects that somewhat- the idea was that the percussion/piano group is more "playful" and into pop music, and the brass is more "serious" and serial, and that becomes more entrenched and conflicting as the piece progresses. However, those ideas are mostly lost in the new Suite &can only be heard in the surviving mvmts (2,4&5)
What you told me earlier is true. It merely takes some imagination to hear what it could sound like in the hands of good performers. This is a brilliant piece. If I can help to get it performed, I will.
OK, this one loses a lot more in the computer simulation than the 3rd movement, I think. (There's one part that even makes me almost laugh sometimes.)
At the end particularly much is lost. When played with a real piano, there are certain overtones that will sound, creating a much more lush and richer texture than u hear here.
But hey, at least it can be heard more than just in my head, right?
:-)
And Jeff's paintings are wonderful, I think. I wish I could get them in higher resolution.
nice

@StoneKnivesBearskins I should have replied to this a long time ago- but that was certainly among the nicest comments I've ever received.

It starts with some reminescence of Arvo Pärt, but then it takes its own original way: great job!

Thank you for your point. It *is* only the first movement, and bear in mind I think the sound will be more impressive and thick when played live.

Sounds like Penderecki, in the sense of emotions. Maybe you have heard his Threnody?
Sinfoniette 2 years ago
Yes, I have, but it was many years ago I fear. I've never studied it in any depth. Just a couple of listens with a score, as I recall.
But thank you for the comparison and for your listening!
