Japan has one of the best Health Care systems in the World because they combine Freedom of Choice that the Private Sector provides. While eliminating or holding back Profit Motive.
Americans cannot afford to become ill. Ask yourself..."Where's your Tax Dollars going too....." Most Americans have no clue where their tax dollars are going too.....
Of course they need price controls in Japan... how else would their conformist, uniform, soul-crushing, we-only-briefly-embraced-capitalism-because-the-Americans-kicked-our-asses-and-showed-us-its-power, culture remain pointless and uniform?
As a famous cowboy once said: Y'all may not know this, but there are things worse than dying.
Japan is even farther right wing capitalist that the USA, ... you have no idea what you are spewing. Bush only wishes American companies could drive their workers like slaves the way the Japanese corp. does.
The two main categories of health insurance in Japan are referred to as Employee's health insurance and national health insurance. It is compulsory to be enrolled in a Japanese insurance program if you are a resident of Japan.
Japan is one of the most capitalist countries in the world, Mr. Shit for brains. They don't have that many natural resources but they have the 2nd largest economy. Plus their hospitals are 80% private. Getting an MRI costs $98 as opposed to $1200 in the US. This caused their companies to adapt. Toshiba now makes cheap, effective MRI machines that even the Americans are dieing to get. That is the epitome of capitalism. Look at the fucking car industry, whose begging uncle Sam for socialism now?
America's health care system is fine. From what I hear, many japs hate their health system. America still beats every other country in cancer survival rates, transplant surgeries and emergency care. You want to take advantage of it? get health insurance, duh.. nothing in life is free.
A lot of americans lack the need to be frugal, efficient and compassionate. You forget that helping your fellow brethren in need of healthcare regardless whether they may be wealthy or indigent would reap bigger rewards in other ways. Your forefathers build a great country, I hope you keep it so.
ISIS: Because Americans have BIG egos. You know, big country, big cars, big houses, etc. Rah, rah, rah USA USA USA !!! We are the Best in everything we do.....NOT !!! Not everything is the best in the USA, Americans need to accept that. Others do things better than we do and we can learn from them.
Most Japans die as teenagars and doctors are poor trained, I agree with Glen Beg and Hanity, Obama is a fasist/socialist who wants to decrade america heritage.
They're making the crazy right-wing of this country look bad.
We have to come to terms with the reality that the corporations that make trillions (yes, trillions) of our current health care system, are not going to give that up with out a fight.
We should be pro-business, but NOT pro-ONE business. If one company or even one industry is hurting everyone else. They have to go.
you can throw numbers at me all day but when my dad broke his foot at work, he had to sit for 4 hours in a waiting room in pain, and he even had to pay for the time spent in the waiting room AND the ambulance ride!!! and we almost lost the house! thats not health CARE . . thats health CAREFACE. in japan he could go to the hospital get fixed in an instant for next to nothing. I think that sounds better
The law is that everyone must enroll in gov. health ins. Companies must pay for their insurance workers, but I'm a foreigner and the gov turns a blind eye to foreigners not being covered. So out of a $2000 month salary, I pay $200 a month for gov ins. Medicine is CHEAP. A $50-$100 pres. in the US costs about $4 here. I paid $10 to get a tooth pulled. A recent visit to the ER, flu test and tamiflu cost me $40
Americans still have one of the longest life expectancies of anyone. Gee, we better fix that.. and if, as reported, lack of care for some issues is a good thing then we better adopt socialized medicine here too!
Yea, what you said, we're in the top 30 countries for life expectancy. That means that there's only 30 other countries with better health care than ours........... and you don't think there's any room for improvement?
Really? Are you sure? It says they are lacking in a couple areas. You can't honestly say that in the U.S. it is 100% all around. No country can. There is always room for improvement.
As for life expectancies. Country ranking.
#03-Japan 82.12
#08-Canada 81.23 years
#50-United States 78.11 years
#51-Albania 77.96 years
Don't believe it? It's on the C.I.A. website. In The World Fact Book.
That is because plenty of americans can afford to pay the healthcare. If you weren't such incompetent fools, you'd realize no one is criticizing the quality of your medicine, it's top notch. The problems arise when your government doesn't feel the need to make healthcare accessible to everyone. duhhhhhh
I think I would like anyone to name one significant medical advancement that Japan or any of its counterparts have made since such a system was implemented.
As people keep saying, the U.S. is the only developed country without socialized medicine. It is also the world leader in medical research. Do the math, people.
Weren't you ever taught, as soon as you begin a statement with "I think", you automatically look like a moron? How about this just off the top of my head: I would call it an advancement to not have to leave critically injured humans on the street to die when they cannot afford the cost of an ambulance ride and other medical expenses It's also an advancement to not just resort to perscription drugs for anything and everything that ever bothers you.
I live in Japan. This report is in error. There is a 30% co-pay charge on many parts of the system. it is not totally free. This was brought in recently by Koizumi, Bush's best Elvis singing buddy so the insurance companies could start selling insurance, specifically "Gan Hoken" or Cancer Insurance. Privatization is trying to worm its way in here.
The Japanese as individuals take better care of their health. That keeps healthcare costs down. That's something we Americans need to do, but we like to waddle on down to the Outback Steakhouse and "pig out". =(
This video leaves out a lot. Many hospitals in Japan have gone out of business because of the rigid price controls. A patient who has a difficult to diagnose illness will be more likely to suffer. Fewer students per capita pick medicine as a profession, which eventually creates a shortage. Finally, the Japanese have a healthier diet and lifestyle that promotes longevity regardless of what type of medical system the country has.
Can all us sane Americans move to Japan? Would they even let us tired, poor,
huddled masses of Americans yearning to breathe free from the insurance companies' tyranny, us wretched refuse from our teeming shore. Will they take us, the homeless, tempest-tost? Will they lift their Sony plasma TV screen beside their golden dragon door? Nah. We're boned.
Public option will not solve our health care problems. Fundamentally, competition drives cost down, but only if the consumer is at the driving wheel. When you have insurance you dont care about the cost of a procedure, most people dont even ask. This inflates the prices. The cheapest health care procedures are the ones that insurance does not cover. Plastic surgery, vet visits, lasik, etc. My insurance paid $800 for a dental cleaning. 1 hour of work for a person who had six months of training.
It's about time someone looked into what other countries are doing. I think the main problem with out health care system is the lobbyist. As long as we are paying for them to fight ourselves we will never win. Lowering the cost of health care isn't something they are going to let slip through the cracks.
"Corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."
The welfare state is slowly killing the Japanese mentality.

A dental cleaning in Japan costs only $30. Public health insurance pays 60%. So I pay $10 for a cleaning! That says volumes compared to your $800.
