Where I am at now these are cheap. I picked up one this weekend for about $17. 30 minutes worth of work and I had 6 steaks, a nice roast a tail piece and some small tender bits. Wish I coul buy them at home for the same price.
@maplepoon For all the meat you get it's much cheaper. I sent my husb to the grocery store the other day and he came home with 2 filet steaks for $38! He spent $22 a pound, which usually they are about $20 /lb around here. So buying the whole loin you save $10/lb on the steaks. But if you only eat the best steaks and don't use the rest of it , then it may not be worth it :)
very very nice. I do mine the same way :) Your always a pro, by the way my wife and I love your sesame chicken recipe. Only thing we change is the amount of sugar.. we use 1/2 as much and it makes the local chinese food taste like garbage. Your awesome keep the vids coming.
@kyh7501 A beef Tenderloin is just a big Filet Mignon. its called tenderloin in the U.S. . the word Fillet Mingons comes from europe if I remember correctly.
Hell, I just make steaks outta the whole thing when I buy em. After trimming, of course. But good tips nonetheless :)

That's a good set of tips there.
I'm never happy with the supermarket cuts, so time to visit a proper butcher and do it myself.
Thanks Lila.

there are 4 parts of beef tenderloin; chateau briand, tournedos, fillet mignon and fillet steak...
yaleraven 1 year ago
@yaleraven The chateaubriand is the filet mignons left uncut (the center) and the tournedos are if you cut the tail into steaks :)

How many oz would you consider your steaks to be? 8 oz?
maplepoon 1 year ago
@maplepoon That is a good question. I'm thinking these are about 5oz or so since I only cut them an inch thick :)
