To all those who have so vehemently voiced their dislike of Ciaran Hinds as Mr Rochester, I would only like to say that the core point of novel - its central theme - is entirely lost on you. Mr Rochester is NOT supposed to be handsome, and Jane is NOT supposed to be beautiful. Their passions, their anger, their love brings them together, not their handsomeness or their physical characteristics.
@RushTheSilver I think that Chiaran Hinds is the best Mr.Rochester.I saw all the versions here on You Tube and I read the book - realy the best interpretation. Thank you for posting it. I bought the DVD last week.
IF YOU ARE A JE FAN YOU SHOULD DEFINATELY WATCH 1983'S ADAPTATION STARRING TIMOTHY DALTON.HE IS THE BEST ROCHESTER EVER.HIS ACTING TALENT LITTERALLY CARRIES YOU AWAY HIS VOICE DEEP AND ATTRACTIVE.YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED ESPESSIALY THE GOODBYE SCENE,OH!MY GOSH!YOU CAN CHECK IT OUT ON YOU TUBE
I pictured Mr. Rochester as someone not quite handsome, but humble and mysterious in his own way. This man does an alright job, but I don't feel it is absolute in the picturing I had. Oh well, can't win them all.
I watched all the versions film from jane eyre, and every were beautiful! l still waiting for my mister Rochester. That was a time love was love. I mean in that time love was more intensive and truly than nowdays.
A lot of the characters seem a little off. Mrs. Fairfax seems very abrupt and demanding... she is supposed to be warm-hearted and good at her job. Jane is way too goodlooking for this role. Not her fault... she's just too pretty. I suggest anyone who likes/dislikes this version should watch the 2006 version. The characters are true to the novel.... Mr. Rochester has a rough sexiness in that version too.... its perfect.
This is my favorite version ever; including the very most moving scene of the reunion at the end. Its just altogher the best; and so underated. I need to make some videos and list it here to do it the justice it deserves.
yeaaaa i don't really like jane in this one ;-; her expressions are.. creepy/scary. Not really a thoughtful look which is generally what i imagine associated with jane eyre ;-;
So no one else thinks that Jane is a little snooty in this version? I mean I know she's supposed to be confident and self assure, but to me, a lot of the time it comes off as proud and snobby.
@MarianVere er, I know what you are saying, but considering Rochesters own domineering pomposity (initially) it's an understandable reaction. Part of the uniqueness of Jane's character that I think Bronte was driving at was that Jane would not just meekly submit to any sort of treatment, as women were (sadly) often taught or driven to do then. It's just an interpretation.
She is one of my favorite Janes in the context of other such short adaptations. My favorite ad. is the '83 bbc miniseries.

Terrible version...maybe the worst!! Mr Rochester is just totally unlikable and has the most annoying voice. THE 2006 VERSION IS THE ONLY GOOD ONE!
