  • I've got very oily skin too, especially on my chin, and this works good for me along with a good combination to oily skin foundation, did you try it with another foundation?

  • i have the milk of magnes and it says regular on it with 3 ingriedeints is that ok? and can i apply it after cleansing and then use sunscreen and foundation to protect my face. since im apply sunscreen on top will the effects still take place of the MOM

  • You got the mint one. You need the original formular and they dont sell it here in the uk. I had to spend a shit load to buy a bottle from the US. But like you i didnt see much of a positive outcome!

  • I have used MOM as a primer for my oilies when I was using Revlon Color Stay makeup. It was the only makeup that would stay put for 8 hours while I was at work. I was extremely oily over my entire face. Right now I have T zone oily skin. MOM works better if you also use it as a mask at night. Leave it on overnight under your night moisturizer. This way your skin adjusts and regulates oil production faster. Check out Paula Beqoun's website she started the MOM treatment for oily/acenic skin.

  • I LOVE YOUR NAIL LAQUER!

  • Hi, I am not sure cause I haven't tried it my self yet. Live in Austria and milk of magnesia isn't sold here.

been doing research and it might just be that the problem lies in the product you bought: there are two sorts of MOM

    1- magnesiumhydroxide

    2- magnesiumhr. + other stuff + flavour

you got the minty one, that means that there might be more stuff in the product then in those other ones you see people talking about on youtube: namely the Phillips original or another flavourless generic

  • non acnegenic, or try mineral/powder foundations instead, but if you really do love your liquid foundation the protect your skin first with a real prima ( smash box photo finish LIGHT) has a matt effect but wont dry out your skin. good luck!

  • no straberry/peppermint flavourings! So look for ORIGINAL Formula only, However if you are already using original then your skin may be reacting to the drying effect by overcompensating and producing more oil, therefore i would suggest the problem is your liquid foundation! so ensure it's oil free and

  • hey, have you checked the ingredients for the bottle you have? alot of formulas have added flavourings (as it is supposed to be digested) many will have peppermint oil in,(yes oil, that will counteract the mattifying effect your after!) especialy the PHILIPS TRADITIONAL FORMULA (that i think you have!) the only ingredients that should be in the bottle are: magnesium oxide, sulphate and purafied water.

  • i think what happened is that you didnt get the right balance, like because its drying your skin out its naturally going to create more oil to hydrate it, so if you get a normal skin moisturizer and use it after the milk of magnesium i think it might work and it wont become oily :)

  • Love,

You need to use this as a mask, not as a primer before you put your makeup on. I use it at night, put it on thick, and leave it on overnight (if you don't want to sleep with it on, wipe it off after twenty minutes). Trust me, it's a lifesaver.

  • i have the excact same effect. i have the same bottle. it seems to work for everyone else. it leaves my skin even more oily

  • I watched your video looking because milk of magnesia didn't work for me either. i was truly disappointed and feeling really hopeless until i all of a sudden decided to try Bliss Steep Clean Mattifying Gel. I was at the point of giving up, I mean I've tried EVERYTHING, Murad, Cosmedine, Peter Roth, DDF, MAC, I think i could keep going, until I came across Bliss. It's about $36 for a pretty small tube, but it's so worth a try for oily skin/very oily skin. Combination skin my dry you out. Goodluck

  • HI! omg! i thought i was the only one!! i tried this i have EXTREMELY oily skin and it did NOTHING for me as well!!

  • Hi! (Sorry for my poor english and spelling.)

I don´t think you should wash it off before apply your makeup . I f you do you have used it as a face mask only. Which is good but the effect you want as a primer fails to come. Just use a makeup brush and add a thin layer. Let it dry. If you notice white spots and areas you have added a lil too much but it comes off easy if you use a soft tissue or towel. Good luck girl and try it again!

    hugs

    Mellow

  • right..i dont wash it off.

  • I use this daily on my skin and my skin is very very oily, and this keeps me shine free for at least 10 hours. I would suggest using a moisturizer and then putting the Milk of Magnesia over it. Like others said, it might be your skin overreacting to the dryness and producing more oil.

  • After you applied it and let it dry did you wash it off before re-applying your makeup?

  • yes i did :) x

  • Then that is very odd.

But like the below comment, your skin is probably reacting to it drying out by creating more oil.

I just started using this for acne yesterday to see if it does anything. Since its purpose is to extract salt and water it seems like it should dry out the acne. But who knows, maybe for your skin it is extracting it and later bringing it to the surface.

I've also seen a lot of people say that they use it as a makeup primer (which makes sense because it is so sticky).

  • you dont want a sticky makeup primer. once it dries it is not sticky..it has the same effect as silicone.

  • ur not supposed to wash it off, thats why it didnt work hun...

  • Also it's possible that your skin is trying to overcompensate for not being moisturized enough so that it over produces oil. So if you try to dry it out too much it causes it to produce more. There are also some products that you can use for anti shine such a Smash Box Anti Shine. But I'd try to see if your skin is just not moisturized enough first. HTH

  • One thing I might suggest is that since you shared that your skin was not oily before you used this new foundation. You might want to look into a foundation that isn't as heavy or there are some foundations that are formulated for oily/ combination skin.

  • ill give it a go and let you now what i think ;)

  • please do! x

  • what section is it in, in sainsburys?

  • I found it in the health and beauty. Mainly where the tablets and eadache stuff is, plasters etc. Hope that helps :) x

  • I've tried this trick and it didn't make a massive difference to me, either. It is kind of mattifying for a while but not long-lasting. The only thing I can suggest which helps me a bit is oil free-moisturiser followed by MAC Blot Powder or similar on the T-zone, pressed/buffed into the skin with a puff or brush. But, I'm still searching...

  • try the Matte Gel from MAC. apply it to your tzones and then put your foundation.
