I am working towards a PS3 just so I can get this. I am selling my Wii and all my games for it to give a solid head start. I'm excited. I also want the Ico and Shadow the Colossus HD collection, Uncharted 1-3, Killzone 2 and 3, Resistance 1-3 and Little Big Planet. But I'm keeping my 360 so I can still play F.E.A.R.(the good version for consoles) Gears of War 1-3 and Halo 1-3, ODST and Reach and 4 (when it comes out) and also Metro 2033 and Mass Effect 1. YAY!!

@meliketalaugh It handles shooting and stealth very well, and I think you can get away with playing it as a shooter, but it's more fun stealthing since you can blend into anything you're up against.
Actually I should say him.. (Hideo Kojima) & Sakaguchi (Old FF creator & true heart of Squaresoft when they were called that).. Cuz I'm playing through Lost Oddyseey now & thats blowing me away as an HD jrpg in this sad era of rpg videogames. These guys have It RIGHT.. old made new again..progression.. long journEy..depth..risk taking banking on quality for your profit instead of an online or mmo component!. Maaaann It's a shame to see this hobby now, you true gamers gotta feel me. MGS5 PLZ!

@TVBST4Rs Well, it is the supposed wrap-up of Solid Snake's story, so it would be a little difficult to follow.
From what I understand though, there IS a Metal Gear Solid encyclopedia thingamajig on the PS3 or MGS4 itself where you can look up things that you are curious about.
@TVBST4Rs the story is total garabe that they pulled out of their ass. mgs3 has the only good story in the series thats beacuse its not directly tied in. the gameplay is awsome but after chapter 2 i think the game took a major nose dive. although, their are some highlights latter on.

The only sad part about the game is Snake's ageing and the fact that he and Meryl don't get married but for the rest it's awesome. This and the very 1st Metal Gear Solid really make me cry. The 2 best games EVER MADE and a tru videogame fan of any platform will tell you. Konami rules! ;)
@bjdahboss Don't have the game, so can't be sure BUT I have all the others, and usually you get the unlocks by LOADING the game you completed, which treats it like starting a new game, but with all the rewards. Hope this helps. Reeeaaally wish this was on 360 :(

I wouldn't say it was shit. For other consoles it wasn't that great. But Sony had an amazing year. And there were some great multi-platform games as well.

This game is very dumb and stupid. You can just already call it a movie. you dont even barely do anything. its like saying press up and then mission completed. there is no action you get to have. the cutscenes are too long. and there making a Metal gear solid 5: rising. This game sucks and this game cost $45.00 at gamestores. do not waste your money on this game. 5%.
There hasn't been a "REAL" warlike based game at all. I believe that Hideo should of defied the odds and went against the will of "morals" and just added women and children in the game to make it allot more realistic. If you ask me I find it funny how men lives seem worthless compared to a woman or child. So in any game with war involved, only men die. But in the real world everyone dies, you can't pretend to be GOD and only choose men to die but spare all others because your emo. Enough said.
I dont think Hideo tried to make this a warlike game, he is a pacifist and there is always a moral instance in his games where you will be able to notice that he in fact is a pacifist

I disagree the , i love the presentation , graphics and story . But the gameplay was just average to me i didnt really have fun with the gameplay and i tried it different ways, and the boss fights were just pathetic. I enjoyed splinter cell way more i dont know why but it was funner

Your Definetly not going to get the great experience of this game without playing all of the other games...because believe me the storyline is so deep that you wont understand whats going on at all.You should play all the games in this order by time period.

Should I still buy this game and try to play it? Everything I hear about this game is positive so I'm thinking that the gameplay will overcome my lack of knowledge of the story.

well i was in the same situation and afther like 2 hours in the game (its a long game) i was catching up with the story and really enjoyed it. and the gameplay of 2 levels is almost never the same think the game is 30 bucks now but uncharted is also recommandeble if you like a 30 buck game
Look, I played this as my first game, but I knew the plot twists before I knew the story. Try to play the other games. This one is great but the others have the bests plot twists in history. By playing the others you get the full feel. I challenged myself to beat all the metal gear solid games in chronological order every week. It was great. I was on break so I had a great time. reliving the story is great. The ending is pointless without the beginning.

theyre making another MGS, but im sure old charactes will be a key part of the story. raiden, otacon and sunny, for one, will definately make appearences. snake will also be a key part, it IS metal gear SOLID after all ;)
I think another prequel would be good. or another Raiden game. In the secret theater of three it was hinted about the 5th one. They could top this. I can find a few flaws. but a great idea would be a DC with bonus game modes and new weapons like MGS2 substance and MGS3 subsistence but call it MGS4 Existence. I wouldn't buy a whole other game just for a few new things. An update is the way to go.
I definitely agree that it's now more of an action game than survival horror. The thing is I was never really into the other ones until the fourth one came out, and I just fell in love with it.
I'm a GTA fan since the But GTA4 is nothing compared to MGS4. MGS4 brings something fresh to plate. GTA4 is just a used up system with no new gameplay concept. If you'd played Vice City on PSP, thats even better than GTA4.
i can compare because i've been playing GTA from its computer version. you see a huge step from GTA2 to GTA3. after that its almost the same. Why i like PSP Vice city is because there's a gang mode and you can capture spot to turn it into different kind of business, which is quite fun. GTA4 is just running around doing the same kind of missions.
I bought PS2, PSP and PS3 because of GTA4. Which is why i'm sad to say that GTA4 was really a dissapointment. Missions were just too repetitive. don't know why but i enjoyed Vice City on PSP more than GTA4. At least this MGS4 input new elements into the game like improved gameplay. COD rules..
You can still get it, it only has small references to the other games, not super all aout the past. You can still get it and enjoy it, ut still playing the Third one would explain quite a few things about what they say in here though.

I disagree the , i love the presentation , graphics and story . But the gameplay was just average to me i didnt really have fun with the gameplay and i tried it different ways, and the boss fights were just pathetic. I enjoyed splinter cell way more i dont know why but it was funner

i agree that the splinter cel gameplay was more fun for me too, but the boss fights werent so bad lol and everything else was better than splintercell... you got 5 thumbs down for expressing your opinion :P

Your Definetly not going to get the great experience of this game without playing all of the other games...because believe me the storyline is so deep that you wont understand whats going on at all.You should play all the games in this order by time period.
-Metal Gear solid 3
-Metal gear 1
-Metal Gear 2
-Metal Gear Solid
-Metal Gear solid 2
-THEN Metal gear solid 4
so if you want story then you MUST play the other games most of them are at a fair price now and easy to find so go getumTRY

That's true. You can also read the story on wikipedia but you'll miss out on the fun of the other games on that list.

this game should of eaisly gotten to be the game of the year. eaisly!!!. But thats just my personal opoinon. the reason why i say this is becuase well baisicly all the good things he said about it and yes it does have a few bad things about it like every game does.

ok i have a question:
I have a PS3 and a 360. My 360 is for games and my ps3 is mainly for blue-ray movies (I only have 2 ps3 games). anyway, I have never played a metal gear solid game so I know nothing about the story. Should I still buy this game and try to play it? Everything I hear about this game is positive so I'm thinking that the gameplay will overcome my lack of knowledge of the story.
Somebody please tell me if it is worth getting in my situation!

well i was in the same situation and afther like 2 hours in the game (its a long game) i was catching up with the story and really enjoyed it. and the gameplay of 2 levels is almost never the same think the game is 30 bucks now but uncharted is also recommandeble if you like a 30 buck game

Look, I played this as my first game, but I knew the plot twists before I knew the story. Try to play the other games. This one is great but the others have the bests plot twists in history. By playing the others you get the full feel. I challenged myself to beat all the metal gear solid games in chronological order every week. It was great. I was on break so I had a great time. reliving the story is great. The ending is pointless without the beginning.

theyre making another MGS, but im sure old charactes will be a key part of the story. raiden, otacon and sunny, for one, will definately make appearences. snake will also be a key part, it IS metal gear SOLID after all ;)

I think another prequel would be good. or another Raiden game. In the secret theater of three it was hinted about the 5th one. They could top this. I can find a few flaws. but a great idea would be a DC with bonus game modes and new weapons like MGS2 substance and MGS3 subsistence but call it MGS4 Existence. I wouldn't buy a whole other game just for a few new things. An update is the way to go.

I definitely agree that it's now more of an action game than survival horror. The thing is I was never really into the other ones until the fourth one came out, and I just fell in love with it.

I'm a GTA fan since the But GTA4 is nothing compared to MGS4. MGS4 brings something fresh to plate. GTA4 is just a used up system with no new gameplay concept. If you'd played Vice City on PSP, thats even better than GTA4.

i can compare because i've been playing GTA from its computer version. you see a huge step from GTA2 to GTA3. after that its almost the same. Why i like PSP Vice city is because there's a gang mode and you can capture spot to turn it into different kind of business, which is quite fun. GTA4 is just running around doing the same kind of missions.

I bought PS2, PSP and PS3 because of GTA4. Which is why i'm sad to say that GTA4 was really a dissapointment. Missions were just too repetitive. don't know why but i enjoyed Vice City on PSP more than GTA4. At least this MGS4 input new elements into the game like improved gameplay. COD rules..

You can still get it, it only has small references to the other games, not super all aout the past. You can still get it and enjoy it, ut still playing the Third one would explain quite a few things about what they say in here though.
