Very nicely explained! May I share a tip? It's actually easier to teach somebody a dance if they stand behind you, so they don't have to make the mental effort of reversing what they're seeing, and can just imitate you. For your next lesson, try adding a Part 2 like that, and see if it works. Thank you for doing this for us!

@swelarra OMG me too!!! i found that it helps to remove all surrounding like walls and furniture and call your friends and parents beforehand to tell them you will be doing the Mashed Potato and not to walk to close. Hope this helps =)

I remember I used to run home after school and turn on the TV to watch American Bandstand and watch the kids do the Mash Potato. Then, I would draw the drapes and lock the door and try to do the dance. I finally mastered it to some degree of perfection.
