i don't think this orchestra is playing badly, but i like this piece better as a real octet. in an orchestra, the musicality and balance is lost. in my opinion.
Bravo, but why play the octeto in version Orchestra? Mendelssohn knew perfectly why he wrote for octeto. Please don't make experimentations with the great composers
I agree with zopercooper... Should be an octet- otherwise it risks sounding a bit pitchy and sloppy... I hate to criticize, but it just doesn't do it for me.
As you increase the number of players in an ensemble it becomes even more difficult to perform as a unit, That explains the need for the conductor. It was also written for orchestra..... This is one of the most beautiful and technically difficult ensemble pieces ever written! I admire any group that attempts it....
i like this better as an actual octet... the first violin part's usually so much more soloistic... but with a whole section it's...... weird.... no offense.
I agree, and there are some good videos of it as an octet on here as well (i.e. those posted by user danielliviu).
It saysi n the parts that each player should play as "symphonically" as possible, but there's a big difference between that and turning it into an orchestral piece. I think of it almost like each part gets to assume the role of concerto soloist at times, and that's not easily done well within the context of a section.
venga ya misha, que tienes mucha cara dura...a quien estas engañando ahora'??

Ah.
I love this piece in both string octet and orchestra form...
I like it an orchestra for the louder dynamics when needed, but I like it as an octet for the more virtuoso solo sound.
Good performance though. 5 stars. :]

Not very good. Inner voices (arpeggios) are running slower than the 1st violin @ opening.

Wow! Mendelssohn was only 16 when he composed this piece!
And this performance is truely fascinating! Thank you so much for uploading!
