one way i think of this is that the curse that was put on the girl merely made her blind. However, since she became blind she would never ever see her reflection again, so in a sense her reflection, which can be seen as herself, dies.
So, Alice has a curse that was put on her by a witch; if she sees another's face, she will die. A boy hears her crying one day, and follows the noise curiously. "Who cries?" He shouts out, and finally finds her. "Why are you crying?" "Because you are there." "Do you have a problem with me being here?" "Yes, so get out." "No way." "..." The girl falls silent. "Let's go with me," The boy suggests. "No way." "..." "I'm asking you to leave us alone." "You say cheap words." continued..
@DragonOfSummer uhm.. it's a bit late to answer but I'll just do it anyway :D No I don't think that it means something, because if you put it backwards there are many.. lettercombinations which don't work in Japanese. For example that last bit ' iz or nar'. You can't write that in Japanese (so it doesn't exist in the Japanese language).
okay, I'll just say what I understood of it. I also saw other translations of tha song.
so Alice gets cursed so that when she sees someone else, she dies. (or that when she sees someone else, they die.)
so Alice speaks to her reflexion in the water (Ecila) and sings her story. From 2:48 to 3:06, a boy appears and speaks to her, asking her to leave with him so he can save her. But Alice, aware of her curse, can't accept, so she tells him to leave.
Since he doesn't want to leave, she decides to join Ecila in the water, basically drowning herself. Though, he saves her and while she's drowning, maybe she loses her sight? Or maybe it was the guy who blinded her, removing the curse doing so.
so basically, in exchange of her sight, she's delivered from the loneliness? and it's like waking up from a scary dream?
I love the whole video, but I particularly like 2:48 to 3:07 is how ambiguous it is. Until Miku says "I'm asking you to leave us alone" it sounds like she could be talking to either the boy that saved her or Ecila... Ecila's inviting her to join her in the lake, and the boy's inviting her to leave the lake...
The story in the beginning is bunk. Alice is a lonely girl who likely makes up the story to make herself feel better about being alone. (In essence "It's not that nobody likes me, it's that I don't like anybody.")
She spends the day with her reflection, which she names Ecila. A boy comes and asks her to play, but she's sure he couldn't really care about her or would quickly forget her, so she tells him to go away.
She then falls forward into the water (into 'Ecila's' open arms) but the boy catches hold of her. The lighthouse, in the meantime, sink's underwater, so when she looks for the light she can't find it. Without the light, there's no reflection, and Ecila is gone. So the girl goes off with the boy.
ok, in my opinion about the "dream" thing u guys r talking about, u know how it is when u think about what happened in the past, like a dream right? so maybe thats what she is thinking, that the past had was just a nightmare, and/or that her current situation is just a dream since its too good to be true..when she dropped a tear on the water, that means she was saying goodbye to her past(?) and continued to live her life
Okay, did anyone else notice that 'Ecila' is 'Alice' backwards? >.>
Alice thinks she's happy being alone-- but Ecila (who is really Alice) represents the sadness that Alice harbors. Ecila asks Alice if she's really happy, then that boy comes while they're talking and tells her that he wants to take her away... She doesn't want him to, she wants to just stay with Ecila and be 'happy'. She runs into the water with Ecila, letting sadness consume her, sort of, but when she comes out she is blind...
.__. She literally almost drowned because she tried "staying" with Ecila. Ecila was rly happy about it. XD ... then the boy pulls her out half-dead, fully dead, or she wakes up from her dream, if it was a dream. She's not blind
I've heard some other translations, and the curse could have been "she brings death to those she sees". This makes sense, too, cause she lives by herself either way, but I think it's right cause of how she wasn't afraid to die when she saw the guy. (and she didn't die when she looked at her reflection)
Don't worry dude, practically all Vocaloid songs are fanmade so technically they're all free since they don't have a deal with a company--yet at least.
Ah, there is /somebody/ that owns the songs. XD That's why they're buyable on iTunes. I don't know the details of it but on iTunes, the names of who the songs "belonged" to were like Dixie Flatline and minato. xP I don't know who they are, but, appearantly, they're the artist of some Vocasongs. ._. I bought Spice...
This song is wonderful. But... I don't understand very well the last part.
I don't know who's talking to who, and what happens to the girl when Ecila says that of "Hello! Hello! I've been waiting for you!" Why did she say she couldn't see nothing? Did she wake up of a dream, or did the boy save her from whatever? I'd be very grateful if someone could explain me these things, please ^^U
The one singing is Alice, the one in the water is Ecila.
From 2:48 to 3:06, Elica is the dialogue on the right, Alice is on the left. Then, the last words in the middle are... supposedly them both. Or that guy. If it was that guy, he's saying he want Ecila to leave him and Alice alone. Meaning he wants Alice to just be Alice, Ecila isn't real. Alice steps into into the water, she's about to drown, Ecila is the reflection in the water. Alice feels Ecila wants her in the water with her.
The boy pulls her out of the water. The water is Ecila, by pulling Alice out, he takes her away from Ecila. She's alive enough to know she's out of the water and she looks for... light. (XP) But, she's dying/dead. The following text is more like "Is this the bottom of the lighthouse?" "What?" "It's dark, but very comforting."
She had died; she no longer has to be alone.
Alice had been confusing herself for Ecila. And, technically she is, but she isn't. o_O
She thinks Ecila is another person, but at the same time herself. When she died, she thought she would lose the consiousness of being entirely, but instead, she woke up into a new world, real or not. It could have been a dream she just woke up from. It could have been her life, she might have had identity problems, she could have died and eased her confusion. Very lovely, right? This is my favorite Vocaloid story... song thing. XD I just heard it a week ago. XP I'm guessing the song's meaning.
So in the new world she didn't lose her sight? But it was said that she lost the "distorted colors and shapes" isn't that showing that literally she is blind or sth?
And when she said that she was dreaming at the last part...where was that pointed to? The curse or all the story itself?
I'm really confused @_@ I made a sub for this, yet I didn't understand the meaning entirely
(Thanks for explaining some parts I didn't understand)^^
It didn't say she lost them, it said "/Instead/ of losing all of the distoted colors and image, I recieved a warm one in my hand", I think that means that, when she got her happy ending, instead of being free of all the messed up things that were bothering her, she had somebody to be with her. He's one of the messed up things to her, but he's kind. She might have not liked the world in general, but then she met him.
It's kinda like if you were sleeping and don't want anyone to wake you up.
Ah, I'm sorry to kind of ask you again, but I realized one thing that she implied that she had "lost it", not implying "instead" of losing it (about the blindness)
The japanese said :
Yugamu iro mo = distorted color
Katachi mo subete = all the shapes,
"Nakushita kawari ni" = "in the exchange of losing it"
uketotta kono te wo, nukumori wo = I received the warmth in my hand
there's no word implying 'instead of losing it' (in japanese: nakushita yori)
Ah. Okay. Then I guess it means, because she lost her distorted vision, she gained a hand in hers. It doesn't mean she lost her sight, just her "distorted" point of view. She saw the world for what it truly was and made a friend.
She's talking about everything from the beginning of the story to right before she talks about Ecila not existing anymore. From then to the end, she's talking about what happened after she "woke up", in however way she "woke up." XP Sorry. I can interprete the whole idea in a few ways.
From 2:48 to 3:06, the boy might be the one speaking on the right, and Alice could be the one on left, Ecila(and Alice) might be the words in the middle.
XD Either way, both Alice and Ecila were against the boy for a bit. I think that's cute, in a sad way. Poor Alice.
And I don't think she dies when she sees the faces of other, I think it's suppose to be she brings death to those she sees.
Thank you a lot! Now I think I understand it better... well, it's still a bit confusing, but no so much as before and not in the same way, I hope I'm explaining myself correctly ^^U
Before I thought it was wonderful, and now more than ever because I understand it thank to you *.*
And I hope the poor Alice just woke up from a dream... at least, she says she's like the girl that woke up from the frightening judgement (maybe Alice of Wonderland? It has many references). I hope so xD

Am I the only one who has noticed most of the pictures are made up of the Japanese characters of the lyrics???
Like when the boy puts out his hand, his hand is made of the lyrics in Japanese. Same at the end it looks like a smile with a nose...
