That's nonsense. Many tourists go there because of the expert craftsmen that design many high-class ornaments at reasonable prices, which are great souveniers to show to your family members. I work at a private local tourism company and this is the 3rd most reccomended site for tourists to visit in San Juan, after the famours El Morro fort, and the San Sebastian street. Also, if you take the alleys down towards the beach, there's a balcony where you can take beautiful pictures of the Sea.

true, pretty much if you don't go asking for a beat down nothing will happen, this is La Perla on the northeastern end of San Juan. It has gotten somewhat better over the years but it is still a very violent neighborhood because drug and arm dealers ruin it for the people that live there. It is a town where people had set up their own housing because they could not afford anything else many many years ago and has been pretty much cast out of mainstream society along with the projects in PR.

In fact, the first Tuesday of every month there's a huge party down there where it's pretty much packed. You can talk on your cellphone if you are discreet but it's true that they don't like you taking pictures down there.

That's nonsense. Many tourists go there because of the expert craftsmen that design many high-class ornaments at reasonable prices, which are great souveniers to show to your family members. I work at a private local tourism company and this is the 3rd most reccomended site for tourists to visit in San Juan, after the famours El Morro fort, and the San Sebastian street. Also, if you take the alleys down towards the beach, there's a balcony where you can take beautiful pictures of the Sea.

I live in san juan and i go to la perla a lot to buy weed (yes i smoke, got a prob?) and nothing has happened to me. actually people are really nice and humble because they come from a life of crisis and unemployment and its not because they dont try, but because people judge them form where they live or how they look, so they have to hussle to feed their families, but theyre not bad persons. if something happened to you is because you had it coming.

true, pretty much if you don't go asking for a beat down nothing will happen, this is La Perla on the northeastern end of San Juan. It has gotten somewhat better over the years but it is still a very violent neighborhood because drug and arm dealers ruin it for the people that live there. It is a town where people had set up their own housing because they could not afford anything else many many years ago and has been pretty much cast out of mainstream society along with the projects in PR.

The same way I said it in public I have accepted it , because I know what I previously said was not right, I just remembered about this place and followed others comments without thinking. And if telling the truth is being psycotic then everyone else, is dont you think? Plus I think everyone have issues on certain matters.... the same way u judge others you will be judged. LOL @ all the dumb people making comments. I've been to La Perla dozens of times since I was about 17. It's perfectly safe. You're not going to get shot or mugged down there. In fact, the first Tuesday of every month there's a huge party down there where it's pretty much packed. You can talk on your cellphone if you are discreet but it's true that they don't like you taking pictures down there.
