  • Just to let everyone know:

"El Farol" means... "The Light" ♥

  • @anirak90 Actually, 09Karina, "el farol" means "The street light" as on the street light at the corner of an old town in Mexico.

  • @misterkosito

  • Carlos' best since Samba Pa Ti. Wonderful.

  • @Hedgeweed yes yes yes!! totally agree

  • @biggideal - Thank you! Any idea what El Farol means, though? I found out that Samba Pa Ti means 'Samba For You'.

  • the story behind the name. when santana was writing this song, he got a call from his wife saying that his father had passed. he decided to name it El Farol because that's what everyone called his dad when he was growing up.

  • I ment a thumbs up sorry. Thanks for the insight

  • @1996markopolo - Thank you for the story. What a wonderful thing to have done. Carlos has class.

  • @Hedgeweed

Farol is one of those old street lanterns, so, El Farol mens The lantern.

  • fly me to the moon de frank sinatra es mas o menos parecida

  • Carlos Santana: The best living guitar player in the world.

  • @undernukem12 Robert Fripp.

  • @undernukem12 agreed, but actually Jimi hendrix is the best :P On the list, actually :P

  • @RicardoLTOR I said "living" guitar player xD

  • @undernukem12 oooooooooh, my bad......but jimi hendrix IS alive :D in our memories and hearts :D

  • yeah!!! :D asi debe de ser, saludos XD

  • By the way, I think this song was wrote for his mother. Farol means streetlight

  • Carlos Santana is Mexican, born in Jalisco and he born in a mariachi 's family.

For me, this is his greatest song, I´m his fan since I was 5

  • @fajardosalvador Thanks - aside from his extraordinary musical talents, I like him because he is a genuine nice person - no scandal, no gossip, clean as an arrow, and that is so nice in this world where men refuse to be true to their women, and in too many cases they physically abuse women, and as an old school man from the farms in Virginia, I despise men who do not treat women with completely respect and dignity. For this man, Chivalry will not die as long as I am alive. Wild Bill

  • hey guys...what effects would you recommend for this song? Please, I have to know your opinion!

  • I use a little bit of drive but just a little bit and some reverb yea that's what I use, and of curse the equalization but it's hard to explain. just try to find the sound.

  • yeah, beautiful melodys

  • Santana is not the best guitar player in the world. He is the guitar.

  • This is sooo beautiful! Thank you.

  • Very nice, Santana is the best guitarist in the whole world

  • I feel the need to cry.

    Beautiful.

  • gracias carlitos por hacer tan linda y fantastica musica

  • que exelente cancion.

  • At least a part of the music from this, I noticed from a couple early 1980's Benny Hill sketches (the melody and the Am-Dm-G7-Cmaj7-Fmaj7-Dm-E7-Am chord structure). Was there another song from the 1970's or so, preceding "El Farol," that would have fit the description of that section of which I speak?

  • This is my favourite song ever must listen to it at least once a day and never get sick of it just love it

  • This & the theme song from that old, "Snick" TV series, "Are You Afraid of the Dark?", are one & the same! : )

  • not even close, numbnuts

  • Good description.

  • Carlos wrote and recorded this song in honor of his father, Jose Santana, after he passed away. Hence El Farol, someone who stands tall and guides you.

  • i have this great album and I love this song--i'm not big on instrumentals only--but this one is an exception--so beautiful, yet with this underlying tone of sadness...lovely!!!!

I like Carlo Santana's shoes too (yep, he owns some shoe company and a lot of the proceeds go to charity!) Que buena persona!!

  • This is one of the most beautiful instrumental's EVER created. I always thought Santana was a musical genius, but this song actually makes me feel "high"

  • Definitely, but I see that people don't know this about this instrumental much! This is one of THE BEST instrumentals ever...

  • have you heard Europa?.......... my friend?

  • I play it on my guitar almost every day! :) And Samba pa ti, and Marooned! ;) Heart breaking instrumentals! I listen to that music whenever I feel sad and whenever I feel good!

This summer I've been on my Croatian coast and listened to Samba Pa Ti and the feeling was great! Just imagine: sea, wind, signoritas, beer and the music! Brilliant! :)

  • Beautiful !! played with such passion. This is really beautiful music
