Hehehe. I was a hairdresser and the same age as these punk/glam kids in 1986.
What a great time it was! The music, the fashion, the sex, the drugs. Hehehe.
I lived something like this then, also. So I loved this movie.
My street in Bondi Junction had 'the lios skins' tribe at one end, and a punk tribe at the other. Most days they'd have a brick throwing fight. It was quite exciting. Especially as my car was parked right at the median line. LOL!
@repeatedjellyfish Hey! I worked at Hair 2000 in the Bondi Junction plaza. Those were the days, eh? Dance parties weren't called 'raves', yet. Westies weren't invited, nor did they know they even existed. Young people were showing 'their true colours' through there hair and make-up for the first time in.. well.. probably ever for our culture. And anything seemed possible. It was SO exciting, such a wonderful time to have lived through.
@OzzyPatriot I worked there for a while as well, with Neil. I recall going to many of those parties, sometimes going back to work with only a shower to keep me awake.
@repeatedjellyfish Was that the 'Niel' that went on to 'Wizards' at Chatswood? If so, he was one COOL dude, for sure. I worked with him at H2000 aslo, but it was at a different location, upstairs somewhere nearby, that he ran, really futuristic, like a spaceship with portal doors etc, as I recall. But yeah, he was a 'God' of that org at the time.
LOL. Just a shower to keep you awake, eh? Sure.. sure... hehehe ;)
@OzzyPatriot There may have been something extra in my diet when I was young and dumb. Not sure where he went after H2000, but it was upstairs in the shopping centre at the twin towers. I remember he had a 70's jag that he dropped a V8 into it. I also worked with the guys at Randwick for a while.
@repeatedjellyfish 'upstairs in the shopping center at the twin towers' Bingo! that's the one!
I also worked the Randwick salon. This is getting eerie. Perhaps we DO know each other. But I suggest we take our convo PM from now on, since we have obviously taken this thread outrageously off topic to the video above.
Accept to say to all you readers out there: See? Live your young lives to the full, then, ,someday, you may find a great joy in reminiscing.
Lucky enough to have been around with a lot of these guys back then. Have the original Marching Girls vinyl single, Dogs In Space vinyl soundtrack and a DVD version of the movie. Makes it easier to explain to my grand kids what I was doing during the 1980's.
@TheJolenebean ~~Anthrax is on Gang Of Four's album Entertainment~~it's on youtube as well but they won't let me post the link directly for some reason.
I have a copy of both soundtracks on record. There was a black cover one which had swearing and a white cover one which did not. Love this film and soundtrack!!!!
Wow, my comment looks awkward there, away from the 1 year old comment it was in response to... Favourite film & playing this song to death, currently.
can you borrow it youve still got it from last time ive givven up tryna steal it back......................prepare your self mocho hes playing that record again nigue needles rocks
This movie is just ACE! Twenty years later, we still love watching it... very funny but has the BIG message at the end that was very serious. Now Michael is gone and his lover, Paula, by same circumstances as Anna. At the end when Michael comes to her in his limousine, that's very strange to watch now. Anyone agree?
It's a song written by Nick Cave and the Boys Next Door. The version you're talking about is by Marie Hoy and is on the very hard-to-find sound track (vinyl) for Dogs in Space.
I've got the Vinyl. Went out and bought it straight after leaving the movie theater I think. It's in storage in a big box along with all the other stuff I bought in the 80's =(
This movie was kinda mind blowing for a kid in suburban Perth at the time...
BTW there was a huge controversy at the time over the drug use in this film.
One of my all time favorite movies. I don't think I've met but 2 other people in my life that's actually seen it prior to meeting me. It was 'recognized' for it's exceptionally lengthy and uncut handheld camera shots.... and if you notice in the first scene, the dolly tracks were onscreen intentionally.
I used to have this on vhs. Had the movie poster too hanging on my wall as a teen. I can't tell u how many times I saw this movie. I was surprised that I remembered most of the words still!! Glad I still have the lp soundtrack! I used to make all my high school friends watch this movie. hehe
