Notice the blue book at 2:49 "Familiar Quotations". It has 2 profanities that are partially hidden but you can make out what they say. One quote at the bottom of the book is "go to hell" and another is "damn the torpedoes". These animators slipped in quite a few over-the-top scenes in their cartoons during a time when the Hays office had tight control on things like profanity and sexual situations.
YOOOOOOOOOU ARE GUILTY AND SENTENCED TO LIFE! NO! YES! NO! YES! NOOOYEEEEEEEEEES! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO MEEEEEEE! *oooooh ahhhhhhhh* I'M A CITIZEN SEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! D'B *bong*

It's just a shame that someone thought it was a good idea that Daffy should be rivals with Bugs Bunny to the point where he becomes completely overshadowed by him :(
Wow! Wow! Wow! Today is the first time I am watching this cartoon in 15 years! Saw it first when I was just 8 years old and I have been looking for this cartoon on YT for almost 3 years now! So glad I found it!!!!!! :D :D
Bahahahah! I forgot about this cartoon!! Oh my god, AMAZING! Oh man, I feel so bad for the kids of today who've missed out on cartoons like this. Such amazing stuff! Thanks for putting it up! :)
I love Daffy doing a parady of Danny Kaye! The accent and scatting is great. Also, the blonde hair Danny had in the 40s when he had to bleach his hair looks great on Daffy, lol.
@marksjersey856 Neither was Danny. Do some research. He was married to his wife, Sylvia Fine Kaye, for 47 years. He had a daughter who he adored, Dena. He was a big flirt with women on the sets of his movies. People who knew him including Glynis Johns laughed out loud when someone asked if he was gay. Producer Perry Lafferty said he saw no evidence that he was gay in all the time he knew him. He did have a few affairs with women which have been documented. Shirley Maclaine was one of them.
cont.... She wrote about it in her book. The Olivier rumor is ridiculous. His wife Joan Plowright has denied that rumor many times including in her book. That rumor is from that book in the early 90s that claimed that without any direct quotes from anyone who was around at the time. Funny how it was released after both he and his wife died so they couldn't comment on it. I doubt they would've wasted their time though. It's total garbage.
Pause it at 5:16 and look at the face on the baby ... Bwwhaaahaaa! I love the way the animators slip in quick, borderline subliminal, little things like that.
I don't care what anyone says: Computer generated crap animation will never touch this stuff. Every frame done by hand with love and talent.
@GeoJ - AMEN, couldn't agree more. I'm old school & the crap they have now... is just sh t. Those were true ARTISTS back then w/ REAL IMAGINATIONS. Can't stand the STUPID cartoons they have now. 8:15 pm 11-18-11
Absolutely love this one ... Totally surreal and brilliant. And you gotta love the way they "slipped in" an ad for Lucky Strikes ("So round, so firm, so fully packed. So easy on the draw ...") :-)
Originally released in January 1946. Lots of topical references to Harry James {"Young Man With A Horn"; and he indeed played off-camera for Kirk Douglas when the movie based on the book was released in 1950}, "The Whistler" {a popular West Coast mystery/suspense program}, "THE ALDRICH FAMILY" {whose famous radio show opening was, "Hen-ry! HENRY ALDRICH!!"/"Coming, Mother..."}, Frank Sinatra {"The Voice"}, Tommy Dorsey {2:27}, Gene Krupa {2:32}, Benny Goodman {2:36}...

@PissedPlayinPimp - Yes, that sound effect was his trademark with his later cartoons. That might be my favorite of the WB sound effects. I'm sorry WB couldn't have recorded it and made it a permanent sound effect after Clampett left the studio in 1946.
@WSenator1 They did make it part of their library. The effect turns up in a few cartons after Clampett left, including the end of Chuck Jones' "Much Ado About Nothing."
The guy on the cover of So Big at 6:04 is wearing a purple shirt and has brown hair atop his head. At 6:05 when he turns his head, both his shirt and hair disappear.
@lilsmall1 *in between the scatting, here it is: 1st: Big bad wolf in suit, 2nd: Grandma's bed, 3rd: great big ears, 4th: better to hear you with, 5th: hey what eyes you got, 6th: to see you with, 7th: great big teeth, and 8th: to eat you up. zurang, zurang, zurang.......... Does that answer your question? ;)
It's funny watching these cartoons that were such a big part of your childhood and picking up on things that were lost on you as a kid (i.e. identifying the famous singers and musicians like Frank Sinatra,Glenn Miller, and Gene Krupa, a personal hero of mine).
