We do not want government in control of marriage. We need to start treating each other as humans. Government free marriage is the pathway to equality. Government should have no control over religion or marriage. Leave marriage to the religions or to the people to freely contract with one another.
My UU Church (UU Church of SE Arizona) will be holding "Coming Out Sunday" on 10/17 to proclaim publicly that we are now officially recognized as a Welcoming Congregation. Our choir will be singing this and I am so excited and thankful to be a member of a loving church community!
Hi Kay: One of the attributes of UU music is the practice of equality in that we don't publicize individual names in a choir. Just thought you''d like to know
My church sang this last Sunday at our GLBTQ Service and they could hear us out in the parking lot. I love this song, I love this faith and I love these people :)
Wow! this is really good. Brought me to tears. It is sooooo about time that people of faith, I mean REAL faith, stand up as a group and proclaim their understanding of what love is. It is colorful, filled with variety and found where any two or more people respect each other. Well done.
I stay from using Religious and Religion...just because of the negative history...however, this church I think has the best philosophy of all other churches
Yes you can. Christ was his own man; He broke the rules (like associating with prostitutes) in spite of what the majority had to say about it.He preached tolerance and love.
Our sanctuary was filled to overflowing on Sept. 6 when my partner of 16+ years and I LEGALLY married at the UU church in Santa Paula, CA. People are STILL telling us it was (one of) the best weddings they ever attended. We felt and feel so much love from our congregation - it is humbling. And we know it will again be legal for all folks to marry in California and in the rest of the country. Love and peace.
You clearly haven't read the New Testament, which is the basis of Christianity. If you are relying on Leviticus, which Jesus set aside as the 'old law', then you are more Jewish than Christian.
Remember the Old testament also supports slavery, marrying your dead brother's widow, and even forbids haircuts and cheese-burgers (yes, really!).
StoogeWatcher you must not be a true Christian for not loving
your brother and sister. Jesus said do on to others that you would have done on to you. The prophet Jesus affirm Love,
Dignity & Freedom & Equality for all & as a U.U. you do not have to be a Christian to love God or to fight for human rights.
God is Love! In all religions God's Love is the most important thing in life & to have love and justice for your brothers & sister on earth. like Jesus said love your brother as yourself.
UU's have faith, but the question of the teachings of Jesus vs Moses, or the existence and nature of God, while interesting and worth discussing, isn't half as important to them as how they've agreed to treat people who want to be with those they love.
Oh, and a lot of UU's wouldn't consider themselves Christian. Some are, some aren't, some dabble.
I am proud to say that my church was featured in a few of the photos and I attended one of the weddings featured as well. I'm proud to be a UU. The fight continues on and I'll be there to fight along side my gay, lesbian, bi, transgendered and queer brothers and sisters!
Governments should not be making law in matters of religion. The state should grant only licenses for civil unions, regardless of gender. Marriage is a religious institution, and churches should be able to marry whomever they please, or not. I'm proud to be a Unitarian Universalist.
I disagree. Marriage is not a religious institution. It has been highjacked by religion, but it has always been a legal contract between certain parties. The religious ceremony may have certain emotional significance to the couple or to the community, but it does not make marriage a religious institution.
No it isn't and it never has been. It's a completely secular human creation, and by definition the word "marriage" never had anything to do with a religious ceremony.
One more reason I am very proud to be a Unitarian Universalist! We, along with the liberal Episcopalians and the United Church of Christ, are indeed "standing on the side of love"!
Excellent video and we have linked it to our Unitarian Fellowship web site. So very proud to be a part of a group that includes, rather than excludes.
This is a beautiful song. Says everything right about being a UU! Proud to be a UU and Gay!

I wonder who sings this. She has a really nice voice (I know it's written by Jason Shelton, but I wanna know who's actually singing this version).

To StoogeWatcher: Yes we can, and yes we do.
If there is a problem between the two, perhaps the definition you choose for "Christian" needs to be looked into.
