I say it often, Hard livin' makes for good Country Music! Sad it has to be that way, but without real life experiences, you can't write great songs that people relate to and you sure is hell can't sing them with your heart, soul, and conviction.....At 40 I don't consider myself old however, Next to Jamey Johnson (who gets no airplay) I just don't know who's gonna fill their shoes! Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts??? You gotta be shittin' me!
two of the best singers to have ever graced the stage. No one and I mean no one compares to these two singers, sure there are great singers out there but these two are the very best there is and ever will be. Treasure them while we have them, because we all know their time will end as well. God Bless
absolutly beutiful, brings a tear to my eye, no one can compare to the King Of County Music George Jones, ole possums been thru alot and hes still truckin alone, and Dolly Parton realy brings the emotion to this wonderfull song!!!!
them two singing together was good. this was a good song for them both shows the true country music the classics and every thing all rolled in to one.
I think Hank Jr's version will always be the best... for you can tell it was about his life... Alan Jackson paid a great tribute just because of the fact that he changed the word I to he in the song... Not taking anything away from the possum, cause no doubt, if there is any other person who deserves to sing the powerful words of this song.... its George... Love it either way....
I hope Dolly's rack will be in the Country Music hall of Fame someday. This song was written about George..but I got to give props to Alan Jackson's version. However, long live the possuM!!!
Another great version of this song. I personally think that if one was to take a look at George and Hank's lives, they would find exact parallels. Both of these guys went from being boozed up, cracked out maniacs, to well-respected, and influential legends. This song paints a perfect picture of what they may have went through. Let's all be glad they survived, and are still around today. P.S., Alan Jackson also did a killer version of this song some years back. Kudos to George, Alan, and Hank.
gotta love ol no show jones....but seriously there aint a whole lot that i like about this version besides dolly's big ol cannons..YARRRRRRRRRRRR!!! lol
@rosskarvonen No new singer has sprung since Brad Paisley these people Dolly N George are the best. If they rank male and female country singers by chart position George and Dolly would be number 1 male and female by top 40 single. dolly number female w/ #1's and # overall with top ten full length albums.
No new singer has sprung up since Brad Paisley these people today don't know shit about singing thanks to computer they sound like they can sing. Dolly N George are the best. If they rank male and female country singers by chart position George and Dolly would be number 1 male and female by top 40 single. dolly number female w/ #1's and # overall with top ten full length albums.
I have a really old clip of them from the "Porter Wagoner Show" that aired in the mid 80's. It originally was done in the very late 60's or early 70's. I don't believe they worked together again 'til he did his Bradly Barn Sessions album in the 90's. Then they appeared on an Grand Ole Opry Special together.
Old Georges voice has a sound to it like it is ringing it's way back from the gallows of hell. I grew up listening to Dolly and I remember George when he was wilder than both the Hanks put together. You catch a glimpse of Georges true greatness when he stops and sings " I do get tired of this travelling band" on his own. Right there you hear why George is truly one of the greatest voices we have ever had; thank you George for all the great songs. Truly you are one of the greatest blues men ever.
Hank Jr may have wrote the song but George Jones is the Blues man.
