Мы сняли целый фильм про нашу поездку в Чернобыль и Припять. Заходите на канал, смотрите... Может быть у кого-то возникнет желание тоже туда съездить.
This is also my favorite film. But in a way it's power is inexplicable and incomparable to any feeling you get from any other film. You know that feeling you get after you watch an incredible movie or listen to an amazing piece of music? Well, that was the feeling which promted me to order Stalker after watching Solaris. But after watching Stalker, I didn't have that feeling. I can't really explain it, but its like Stalker lives in a completely different dimension from the rest of the films.
@Lemonizm I absolutely agree! When I saw this movie, I had the impression that I was watching something that could hardly even be called a film. It reminded me more of a poem or a painting, or like you say, a great piece of music. Come to think of it, it reminds me of the Stalker's speech about music - how you can't explain why it should resonate with you so deeply, but it so does. :)
does anyone know about a movie thats similar to the stalker? I remember seeing a movie that had i think 2 guys and one girl i remember they were walking around in a forest with like a geiger counter because of radiation or something. I also remember the girl was sick and thats about all i remember because i was little like 8 years old. Does anyone have any ideas?
reminds me of the show "heroes" or the movie "unbreakable" giving superheroes a realistic origin, and the origin of magneto was also shot like this, gritty, real, poetic.
I thought I heard Dull Flame lyics from somewhere! I was thinking maybe Bjork did a remake of an older song like she did with It's So Quiet. Interesting.
Another translation of F.Tyutchev's poem By Y.Bonver I love your dear eyes, my friend, With their play so bright and wondrous, When you promptly rise them, and, Like with a lightning in the wildness, Embrace at once the whole land. But there's more fabulous attraction: The eyes directed to the floor During the crazy osculation, And through the lashes, set before, The dusk and gloomy flame of passion.
Another Translation by F. Jude I love your eyes, dear, their fiery-playful games,
their sudden upward glances slowly looking all around like lightning-flames. .......... ThereТs a more potent spell: eyes lower. A mouth hungers. Lids almost close. Sullen arousal glows.
really? no way.. did you really think they were moved by telekinesis? Who cares what pulls them? To notice such detail is to miss the whole picture. This is one of the few masterpieces of world cinema.
No, dude, I´m just spoiled by real sci-fi movies whose budget has more than four digits. :-D That said, I´m sure that Tarkovsky would make another miniature masterpiece if he filmed the back of my very bald head for five minutes.
The UK film magazine Vertigo regularly features Tarkovsky. There's a nice piece on the documentaries made about him by Chris Marker and Aleksandr Sokurov in the latest issue. There are further details on the Vertigo website as well as free articles.
"I Love Your Dear Eyes..." 1831-1836 I love your dear eyes, my friend, With their play so bright and wondrous, When you promptly rise them, and, Like with a lightning in the wildness, Embrace at once the whole land. But there's more fabulous attraction: The eyes directed to the floor During the crazy osculation, And through the lashes, set before, The dusk and gloomy flame of passion.
The first verse of the translation "I love your DEAR eyes, my friend" is not clear. The word DEAR is nonsense little bit. It is clear without that word (dear). It is EYES only. See original:
Люблю глаза твои, мой друг
Lyublyu glaza tvoi moj drug
I'm from Czech Republic. I learned russian in school when I was a child.
Right now, I am looking some words up in my dictionary, and, well, the russian verse has 5 lines, the english translation has 4. That confuses me. Made a google search:
original version in russian language: Lyublyu glaza tvoi moj drug S igroj ih plamenno-chudesnoj Kogda ih pripodymesh' vdrug I slovno molniej nebesnoj Okinesh' beglo celyj krug... No est' sil'nej ocharovan'ya: Glaza, potuplennye nic V minuty strastnogo lobzan'ya I skvoz' opushchennyh resnic Ugryumyj, tusklyj ogn' zhelan'ya. Aprel' 1836
It is text of Björk's song The Dull Flame of Desire from a new record Volta. But meaning of original version is different. Björk is singing about love (main character is "dear" and "love" in the EN translation) but in Fyodor Tyutchev's poem is it "friend" not "dear". More like "best friend". It is not Björk's fault. There is not very accurate a translation to english in the film Stalker.
well, it's actually "my friend"; and the way it is used here, especially taking into consideration the second part of the poem, it implies a long, intimate relationship, rather than a frienship.

Tarkovsky uses the same Beethoven "An die Freude " in Nostalghia, when he immolates himself in the town square.

Wow, what a fantastic scene!
The kid uses telekinesis to make the table produce music... it's totally whacked! :-)
I've only seen Solaris by Tarkovsky, now I think I'll see this one too :-)

This is the english translation from Björk's Volta:
DULL FLAME OF DESIRE
I love your eyes, my dear
their splendid, sparkling fire
when suddenly you raise them so
to cast a swift embracing glance
like lightning flashing in the sky
but there's a charm that is greater still:
when my love's eyes are lowered
when all is fired by passions kiss

So I am trying to learn russian.
Thank's alot for your transcription!
Right now, I am looking some words up in my dictionary, and, well, the russian verse has 5 lines, the english translation has 4. That confuses me. Made a google search:
"I love your eyes, dear,
their fiery-playful games,
their sudden upward glances
slowly looking all around
like lightning-flames."
So Björk droped a line from each verse?
