It is based on the refs discretion of how commited you were to the hit WHILE the player still had the puck. The cut off line is more like 1 and if the ref is letting it go, maybe 2 seconds. One thing you are correct about is that it was a clean hit. In todays nhl even a clean big hit will result in a fight, just the way it is.

The game is plagued by deficiencies that prevent it from standing on its own. Too many teams, too many games, too many injuries, too many penalties. You are right about that, I forgot to mention that. Out of the seven, all died from lethal mixture except for 2 who OD'd. One od'd because fresh out of rehab and being clean for a while went back to his usual high dose and od'd, and my cousin od'd on morphine due to severe depression in which he took morphine to numb himself out but he knew nothing about the potent qualities of morphine; simply went to sleep and didn't wake up.

I found out about Boogaard before game one of my Canucks the other day. I guess it's still unknown as to what killed him but it's shocking regardless. I saw that Wikipedia had stated that this was Boogaards last shift ever in the NHL because he was feeling heavy concussion syndromes after this fight. It's scary to hear that statement.
I think the Boogarrd's concussion is when they both swing round and land a punch on each other, (about 12 secs in) notice Boogarrd's head hangs and is slower at coming back at Carkner.
My dad was the Houston Aeros chaplan when Boogie played for the Aeros, and he took me out to eat one day along with another player to P.F. Changs. He was a great guy and one of the nicest people i have ever met! R.I.P.

@tehgoat23 lemme clear somethings up. One, boogy hit jesse winchester, not carks. 2. you dont have any alloted amount of time to just hit someone after they dump the puck. It is based on the refs discretion of how commited you were to the hit WHILE the player still had the puck. The cut off line is more like 1 and if the ref is letting it go, maybe 2 seconds. One thing you are correct about is that it was a clean hit. In todays nhl even a clean big hit will result in a fight, just the way it is.

Hockey fighting is for dinosaurs and imbeciles. Face it, it's over. Fighting remains in the game because the ligue needs gimmicks to survive. The game is plagued by deficiencies that prevent it from standing on its own. Too many teams, too many games, too many injuries, too many penalties. Goalies and their bloated equipment make it impossible to score unless the puck is sitting on the goaline. If you like to fight there are plenty of legitimate options to satisfy your reptilian cravings.

Pills like oxycontin have killed more people a year now then freaken automobile accidents. Its so fuc|<ed up what the pharmaceutical industry has done to America. America consumes more pills than all of the world by far. I myself became physically addicted to pain killers healing from bilatterall shoulder surgery from ice hockey injuries. I still struggle till this day, 5 years later, with pain killers. I personally know 7 people, including my cousin and best friend, who've died from this sh!t.

You are right about that, I forgot to mention that. Out of the seven, all died from lethal mixture except for 2 who OD'd. One od'd because fresh out of rehab and being clean for a while went back to his usual high dose and od'd, and my cousin od'd on morphine due to severe depression in which he took morphine to numb himself out but he knew nothing about the potent qualities of morphine; simply went to sleep and didn't wake up.

And the pills can kill when taken prescribed, because people tend to use different doctors for pain management and for psychotherapy; then they being taking oc with xanax and die, even with the proper dose.

I found out about Boogaard before game one of my Canucks the other day. I guess it's still unknown as to what killed him but it's shocking regardless. I saw that Wikipedia had stated that this was Boogaards last shift ever in the NHL because he was feeling heavy concussion syndromes after this fight. It's scary to hear that statement.

I find it incredibly odd that he just suddenly died from a TBI. I have taken a neuroscience of cognition course and I never heard of sudden death months after the injury without a degenerating condition. Perhaps the circumstances of his tragic passing will help shed light on why it happened. I can only imagine he had agitated a weakened arteriole that suddenly burst in an aneurysm?
