  • great playing to much verb..

  • I wonder if any Tone King users could offer some advice? I have a TK Meteor 40, in many ways similar to the one Bradford is using here. One of my main guitars is a Gibson CS336; again, similar to Bradford's (his may be a 339...not sure). My dilemma is, the amp (even in 20 watt mode) is too loud to make it really sing. It sounds so sweet around the 5 or 6 mark, on each channel, but that is too much. Any pedals that work exceltionally well with this? Attenuators? Thanks for your help!

  • @kuhchicken I have a Tone King Comet 40A and had the same issue with too much volume. I emailed Mark Bartel and asked him about pulling 2 of the power tubes. He said it would be fine as long as I changed the rectifier tube to a 5Y3 which greatly lowers the plate voltage. I did as he advised and I totally love the change it made. It is much easier to dial in the sweet spots on both channels at very a reasonable volume. Hope this helps!

  • @chunktone That is great information...thanks chunktone; I'll try that!

  • @chunktone Hey, Chunktone. Im interested in which two tubes you pulled. If the amp is viewed from the rear, can you describe which two you pulled? And as far as the rectifier, switching to a 5Y3 made the whole thing safe? Is it still very loud, or did it calm the amp down a lot, and can you still get lots of gain, AND clean headroom? Thanks for any info you can provide!! I may be picking one of these amps up real soon.

  • Fantastic tone and great playing. Were you using a pedal, or was that straight into the Comet?
