  • Love the sound of the 2 strokes. Not many of them left where I live unfortunately

  • @bj99ful yea used to here em all the time! brings back memories lol

  • Hey man, thanks for posting my drawing...And thanks for preserving and restoring trucking history!

    Elton.

  • Your rig is inspiring me in my big full detailed drawing in colour of a '71 cabover like yours, except in silver and with more chrome. I'll be posting a vid of it when its done and it 'll be for sale. Regards from Montreal.

  • hey were do u get those trucks

  • dern you gotta lot of detroit trucks

  • Is the Strick van trailer a 1970 model as well?

  • Oh man that is sweet, the sound reminds me of that film Maximum Overdrive

    Nice work

  • hey brad who won the best in show at the truck show saturday and thanks for inviting me buddy, me and mom loved it

  • Is this a diesel? Sounds like a moped.

    2-stroke is ridiculous.

  • white freightliner forever!

  • Detroit Rocks!!

  • Love the horn.

  • what do you do with these trucks?

  • I almost forgot , it would eliminate all that clutch and shift linkage and if you entered parades it would make things alot easyer too.

  • @riverman86 .. it is simple , something like this would be a toy in most cases just like some people do old muscle cars ,so just to drive around town, cruising or a local show-n-shine or a charity car wash , even if you pull a trailer it will never be loaded so an allison automatic seems like a good idea.

  • How much cost this Freightliner in your country? He is beautiful.

  • sounds badass....detriots sound neat

  • great vid should post more of it pulling the trailer love old trucks

  • Lovely old gal.

  • SWEET

  • Thanks a lot for posting. I like the sound of Detroit Diesels (two stroke!).

  • Put trilex wheels on it! :D

    Cool truck 5/5

  • have you ever thought about puting an allison automatic in one like this?

  • WHAT HELL FOR?

  • But that is a sweet Freightliner.

  • The red truck @ 0:57 is either an old old American truck, or an old old European truck.

  • thanks

  • what is the red truck at 0:57?

  • @RailsandRoads that looks like an old IH emeryville i think or an old mack H..cant quite tell

  • thanks a lot!

  • The red truck at 0:57 looks like an old H model Mack.

  • @CJO740 thanks

  • @CJO740 it is its the tow truck in another vid of his

  • thats why we use to call them frightliners.. agressive sound.

  • Did you have the airlines hooked up or did you cage the brakes?

  • Man makes you miss the good ol' days. Looks just like my dads old truck. His was blue and white. I still remember the first day we got. I was four.

  • thats awesome i have a 1971 white

  • Oh man, that sounds beautiful!

  • Very Nice

  • What a great truck and sound. The company I work for has taken all of ours of the road, and replaced with the new generation diesels.

  • hey man, thats a sweet lookin truck, my dad used to have a 1964 W.F. Cabover. Same loud engine as yours.

  • maximum overdrive!!!!!

  • Freightliner Fever!!!

  • anyone know whjy they used 2 stroke instead of 4 back then?

  • "Back then?"

There are still quite a few on the road here in Australia, buses and trucks go past every day with the distinctive 2 stroke diesel scream. Most of the the Diesel locomotives are still running these type of engines. If you are a fan of drag racing, the "blower" on top of the engine probably came off a GM diesel engine.

  • The reason they are no longer sold in trucks, buses, is because they do not meet the newer emission laws and because they use more fuel than newer engine designs does not help either. I think they are still available in earth moving and military vehicles though. You either love that scream or hate it, haters say that GM's take "good diesel and convert it to noise!"

  • A 2 stroke Diesel actually has twice the power of a 4 stroke Diesel. Now because of emission laws, 2 stroke diesels are no longer made by companies like Detroit Diesel. There is still a large number of 2 stroke Diesels out there though.

  • You're funny. My LTL 9000 with a 350 HP 3406, loaded to 82,000# + passed Anderson's 500 HP 12V71 Pete three times on the 474 bypass around Peoria IL. And I used half the fuel he did. He did sound good when I went around him, though.

  • I'm a Cummins guy but I love my 3406 in my 98 Freightliner FL120. I just wish it sounded like that!!

  • Well, I guess I'm not sure what your question is, emtrixdk. Perhaps you are asking why the driver in the video is driving the truck in a particular manner. I'm not sure why you would want to know that, but it's something only that driver can answer.

  • why u over reving the engine so much

  • its not over reving thats just how the old 2 stroke detroit diesel's sound

  • sounds like engine that wants to change gear

  • i know but thats how those old detroits sounded they allways had a high sound being that they are a two stroke insted of a four stroke

  • but engine builds RPM nicely then stops like its gone past its powerband and the truck stoped building speed, later he chages gear fine anyway, but at start of video looks a bit .. yeah nah?

  • The older Detroit Diesel engines, like this one, were 2-stroke engines. All modern diesels are 4-stroke. Each cylinder on a 2-stroke fires once every revolution of the engine. On a 4-stroke, each cylinder fires once every other revolution of the engine. So, the 2-stroke fires twice as many times as a 4-stroke with the same number of cylinders. That's why it sounds like it's reving fast, but it isn't.

  • ok i have a good understanding how one works, and the whole argument was not about how much u know about how they work.,

you can clearly (CLEARLY) hear the engine reving, and into powerband. and then it stops, because it has run out of power/rpm so you need to change gear, HE did later fine, but at start was dragging the gears out ,

  • its a detroit dumb ass

  • that's a real rig.

  • Old cab over Freightliners rule! I would like to find one just like it for my tow vehicle!

  • @1947dodgewf32 another guy has this same truck for sale now,i test drove it saturday,go and buy it, the motor and tranny seem fine and its got factory air.

  • listen to that thats power!!!!!!!

  • Thats one sweet sounding and cool looking setup right there. Too bad we don't see the trucks that built this country out running the roads anymore. It's a different day, and it's a different world...so much so it's sad. Thanks for the video, awsome vehicle right there. *****

  • there's an american classic!

  • amazing truck, someone needs to learn how to change gear though

  • on his way to the dixie boy

  • Yes, the best of good ole days, the detroit smelled better than anything, used to be able to tell the motors apart by the smell and sound, the buses that used the detroit motor was my favorite to smell as they passed by

  • Is that an old Consolidated truck?

  • Thats real trucking right there, they should use these things in truck schools, break em in right

  • i love old trucks like that and the way it sounds would put anything in the truckstop to shame

  • Brad, you guys going to ATHS show in Huntsville?

  • Sounds like the old PT boats in the Navy. They used the same engine. lol

  • Nothing like the smell of diesel exhaust in the morning...smells like truckin!

  • Does the interior smell like ass and stale cigarettes?

  • LOL

  • my dad has 2 of those old 238 one in a gmc bull and the other in a gmc brigadier

  • look up the new freight liner fever song: i drive a big freightliner and i make the last payment today! i drive to all points out newyork city to la... alittle woman smiles when i pack up to leave her but ill soo be back but i just got the fever shes a believer, believer, i got tha freightliner fever!

  • 萌え☆

  • good looking old girl u got theree dude, she sounds sweet,,,, sigh

  • Wow. Love it when you really rev it up.

  • Comment removed

  • Haven't I already dealt with you? I can get you basically any truck you want at just about any price range and you know it...BUT..I do NOT like timewasters, bullshitters, and tire kickers. If you are in that catagory, please do not bother me.

  • @classicpower07 GREAT COMMENT! there ar way to many timewasters, oh wait,, they suck but also , there ar EVEN MORE shitheads who sit in their moms basement,, Shit talkin KNOW-it-ALLS who sit on youtube, an talk SHIT about peoples cars/trucks/videos on youtube, like they got something TEN TIMES BETTER, then you look at their channel, an nothin, im the 1st to say, i dont have a nice truck, but these guys who CLAIM they do, cant afford a new camera this week to take pics of their new lamborghini!

  • @classicpower07 I sure would love to take a spin in one of those old rigs. and I'll definitely buy one from you sometime

  • @jkbennett85 sorry im in GA cant help you

  • do you guys have any old twin stick macks? I had a 1968 Cabover no power anything I sold it 3 years ago, I really miss that old truck, loved those old v-8 macks.....I wasnt even born in the 70's but dude new trucks got nothing on the old iron!!!

  • Yes,I have several old twin stick Macks.

  • GOD DAM I LOVE IT!!!

  • Woa..Easy now.

  • Nice White Freigtliner you got there. We have a 69 white freightliner 'cept it has the single round lights instead of the two. Its powered with a NHC-250 naturally aspirated cummins and a 5x4 tranny.

  • There is more guys running old tractors in Ontario Canada now.Especially old Freightliners more conventionals than COE

  • that engine sounds fantastic

  • nice truck!!!!!

  • The next step up from the 6-71N or "238" would be the 6-71T or "262."

  • that wheelbase is so small

    is that less than 100in?

  • This 6-71 has more "bark". Is this a backdrop exhaust manifold? Sounds great, reminds me of the International cabovers & Ford cabovers, they always sounded different than a GMC 9500 short hood conventional.

  • that is a cool truck man how many trucks do u have

  • About 60.

  • im in texarkana tx love your videos and web site :)keep it up !

  • i wish i lived close to or in the town brad is in i love old trucks. i just lost my driving job after 5 years cause of diesel prices and il probaly never drive again wish i could go there for vacation :)

  • Where r u?

  • ve u a job? driver job?

  • Are you keeping this one or selling it?

  • Probably sell it for around $3500.

  • I wish I was in a position to come get it, my favorite truck you have right now.

  • This could be a 6-71, eh?

  • Exciting Detroit Sound!

  • Love the sound!

  • Absolutely stellar.. That truck looks and sounds amazing!

  • Thanks!!! There's just not many of these left on the road today and we think it's a neat old classic!
