In fact, we have more than double the preterm births of most of these other countries meaning our technology and medical professionals find a way to keep these babies from dying in the womb. These inefficiencies are the ones that will bring US down. Along with our high fat high sugar diet. The health insurance costs skyrocket and the business owners will have a very tough time to afford the health insurance. So, they simply move their factories overseas to survive and we keep seeing unemployment rising. Then, we blame other countries for taking our jobs. US govt really need to fix this sector to make US attractive and competitive again.

I've seen the line through the 7 before. It's a common quirk like the loop through the 2. The reason for the line through the 7, I think, is so not to confuse it with a 1, where the 1 has a diagonal on top as you can see printed here (some people actually write that).

Infant mortality statistics are judged by different standards in a lot o dfferent countries. Example cuba, they dont consider a 1 day old baby a human yet so their infant mortality rates are seemingly low. Our short life expectancy is linked to our eating and exercise habits not health care.

Of course we spend more on health care. In France doctors who work for SAMU make about as much as a US EMT. In the US I have never seen a hospital room with more than 2 people and in some they are all private rooms. We order more diagnostic tests per patient than socialized nations (CT, MRI etc) and pay higher costs for newly developed drugs and medical research that ae funded privately. So why is this so shocking that we pay more?

newborns are under age 30 days, our heathcare is so advanced we are able to keep sick babies alive longer-- beyond 30 days -- when they are now classified as infants -- until age one year. thus , these sick babies die in other countries only a few days after birth, we are able to keep them alive longer, and many are unsustainable for the first year and so we have higher infant mortality. cnn knows this and mislead.

Cost of our health care, Are we getting our money's worth?

Does France have as many lawsuits with no caps on awards like we do? This is a reason for higher malpractice insurance costs for the Dr. that's passed onto the patient.

Obama get's a lot of support & money from the lawyer groups so of course he won't put a limit on lawsuits. Allow tort reform, competition across state lines & costs will go down. Plus no new laws, track down that waste, fraud & abuse and it will go down even further.

If my son is still a life and ask him the way hospitals and nursing homes in N.J.USA treated him, he would tell me that they treated him less then you treat unhuman being...God bless his soal.

I am Canadian. I have never waiting over 2 days to see a specialist (Including an echocardiogram and heart ultrasounds. )I've never waited over 20 minutes in an emergency room. I never paid a co-payment (except that healthcare was 14% of my taxes.) I just moved to America and now 18% of my taxes go to Medicare, it's $12,000 for my health premiums and I've paid hundreds in Co-payments this year alone. I like it here in California, but dang, it's so much money here to stay healthy.

I think you're in denial that a not-for-profit health care system is superior to what we have now. Think of it like our public school system, years ago we eventually came to the conclusion that every child in this country has the right to get an education. In any event, the current plan being proposed is not a single payer system. He may have said it, but his actions prove otherwise. I wish he was proposing a single payer system. Given how scared half the country is over a simple public option just proves how unenlightened we are and how long it'll be until we have a true single payer universal system here. Eventually we'll dig our heads out of our asses though. I give it maybe 30 or so more years.

When Canadians come to the US for healthcare, it's because the specialist in Canada are temporarily booked up. But, the Canadian government still pays for the care while you are in the US. It's called outsourcing nothing more.
