...this is all in the book put out in recently by Paul Drummond- Eye Mind. It's incredible, and the straight story told from the band themsevles and the people that were around them and/or effected by them. Their story is amazing. Inspiring, but also tragic and scary full of bad decisions by sometimes the band, sometimes the record label. The Elevators should have been as big as the Rolling Stones. So ahead of their time, and so influential.
I've always enjoyed the rawness as well. They should've been recorded a little better to garner more press. The band felt rushed and apparently hated the outcome. It would've gotten more attention 10 years later when Punk was hitting. The story is they drove straight from California to the studio in Texas, started in the wee wee hours and recorded the whole thing in a day. After this they demanded more time, and not to be rushed. Easter Everywhere had a better sound, but is still raw.
I got the original Vinyl on International Artists Stereo & Mono & they sound mind blowing!!!, get an orig copy, a bag of mushrooms & a decent sound system. . Hats off 2 Leyland Rogers
If you listen closely their is a slight resemblence to "In the "Midnight Hour" in parts of the melody. Still a good song though but it seems their record company, International Artists, wasn't very big on recording quality back then as the 13thFE's first album sounds like it was recorded on a cheap tape recorder.
@mrbag60 I think that adds to it. It's pure not over produced, it's real. It sounds authentic. I'm not one for over produced and over polished stuff. The more raw it sounds, the better.

sounds like it was recorded in a derelict warehouse
.....either that or the recording engineer's hearing aid battery had given out
