  • Saw the dead 13 times in the early '90's, thank the powers that be (and Jerry!) for DSO

  • I caught john k and bobby and phil and jeff joe and the rest of furthur at the shott...greatest show ever

  • I was at this show!

  • I think a good thing happened here. FURTHUR will rock your socks in so many awesome ways w/ J.K., but the current DSO is still freakin amazing!

  • Sorry, I didnt fall asleep, could you play slower?

  • love this band just saw em saturday night in indianapolis.. awesome show even with the new jerry guy.

  • 7:25, they even have terrible harmony like the real dead!

  • 2010 was a special year for me. 11.13.10 in Chicago, I got to see Furthur with some very special friends. When John played this there, I almost could have sworn someone pushed me into a Time Machine and was somehow transported to a GD show from '93 .God, that show was amazing. show really hit me when john sang, "Soon, you will not hear his voice". and i thought about Jerry. As someone who likes the music now. im glad that there are really talented people keeping the music going.

  • I got chills when I heard the first word, sounds JUST like jerry...

  • I swear...... at 7:55 John songs so much like Jerry.... God.. "INSPIRATION.... MOVE ME BRIGHTLY......" Chills.... Chills go up my spine. God I wanna see this band.

  • @ShuguProductions dude john supremely melted my face with Furthur. I recommend every deadhead go see them at least one time in your life. you will not regret it.

  • @randyc420 No doubt man, Saw Further last June, they were fantastic. Great show!!

  • this is an annoying crowd, if i were there and heard terrapin start i woulda went nuts!

  • @twinkie999 agree times a million

  • The last time I listened to this song was 6 years ago from a tape of a live show of the grateful dead, and when I close my eyes I can almost hear them. Thank you so much. you are the best approximation of them I have ever listened to!

  • It's not a shame at all that new fans are hearing the Grateful Deads music through this band . Phil Lesh said that the selection process is pretty simple for members of his various projects . he goes to Dead cover bands concerts and if one of the members execution speaks to him he invites them for a tryout . jrogers71 you just sound like an art snob dude

  • They did a perfect recreation of 10-9-89 Warlocks at Hampton Roads the last time I saw them, I have board DATs of both shows and they are virtually indistinguishable. Remeber the taper pools on the 1st songs of each set back in the day? I won on the resurrected new speedway boogie at Landover MD in ('91 I think)

  • very nice tune here, I surely loved it, remembering olden times

  • I was there.... First time at a DSO show so I was unsure what to expect when I walked in that night... From the first note to the last a GREAT SHOW!!!

  • im a life long deadhead saw the dead many times an when jerry died i thought id never hear them live again then i saw dso in chicago @ the parkwest an when i closed my eyes i was back at a dead show it was spine chillin'...

  • To jrogers: Thank you Captain Pointless.

  • dude, DSO embodies the dead and recreates shows for deadheads and new fans alike, they make people happy, and that is all that matters. they suck now without John though

  • @jrogers71

um aren't they improving too?....they dont take direct jams and recreate them... thats straight from the heart man. but that dosent matter cause playin music is for fun and good out let for art. i respect cover bands just as much as real bands. y are u so bitter at this band??

  • Great rendition!!! Thanks Slatts

  • This band does a great job at carrying on the soul of the Dead. Two things I love about this performance are the percussion parts and the jamming that occurs between 4:40 and 7:00

Anyone know what GD show this was from?

  • It was from 10/17/1983 Olympic Center, Lake Placid, NY

  • Forever Grateful

    Forever Dead

  • I never did quite understand the fuss about the GD. The few times I saw them live they were ragged as fuc*. Even so the lp of this music is good. Strange band even odder fans.

  • @burgersoft777 you either get it or you don't. it's ok either way

  • Its not like I have not tried, indeed I am very fond of American Beauty , Working mans dead, and Terrapin Station. I have a friend who is a very typical dead head with absolutely hundreds of live recordings. However live and often on live tapes they simply do not do it for me. The studio LPs are much more accessable

  • Dick's Picks

  • Then why come on here and try to bring people down. yes you can do it but just because you can do something doesn't meen you should.

  • Kiss my you know what

  • bobby and phil are playing 3 shows with the jerry dude from DSO!

  • haha alot more now!

  • well obviously i caught on to that haha. saw them two times at radio city. it was fuckin dank to the max

  • If you never got a chance to see GD while Jerry lived, DO NOT miss these guys. There show in Buffalo gave me chills! LONG LIVE DSO!!!

  • unfortunately born too late after Jerry was gone I got into music was at DSO concert once and thought I was seeing all the Dead on stage and only heard the music for a moment and Jerry and tha gang looked just like what I would of thought they would from other concert vids I own wish Jerry was still here with them dammit his music and theirs is eternal Dead Ahead Forever!

  • oh jerry. i miss you so much. these guys are the only thing close. god bless dso.

  • DSO is as good as it gets these days, and I'd argue they're in league with the best who have ever performed GD music. Terrapin by the numbers for sure. So clean, you have to go pretty far back to hear the GD play it as sweetly.

Between DSO, Allmans and Roger Waters there's nobody else I'd rather see right now.

  • I am not a big GD fan - but I do like Terrapin Station...I used to have the (Terrapin Station) album many years ago...and although I have not heard any other covers of this song, I feel DSO here did a GREAT job - taking time to be sensitive to let the song breathe...

  • comment from bikerbutterfly is meant

    for that monster7000 hater dude.

    we ALL have different opinions,

so guess since you don't like DSO, we

won't be seeing any more negative posts from you, right?! thanks

    PEACE

  • Wow, John really looks different back then...

  • jeeze i miss jerry ever so blessed for you guys

  • dso always rock...see ya guys at the factory saturday!

  • I was at this show. I dug it. It was a little creepy that they looked like them

  • Damn Mobster@#$??? You poor negative bastard. Life is tough without Jerry but hang up the tissue and groove it w/DSO! I've done both plenty and it's nothing but a great time. I've seen a bunch of posts from YOU throughout the dso material here on you tube. Your watching it, must not be that bad, unless you are just posting to be a hater?

    Nothing but love brah.

SICK Terrapin BTW! Thanks DSO and KEEP IT REAL!

  • you have seen them? Live? ever been to a Real Dead show?

  • yeah, I saw DSO AND I saw the Dead and I have hundreds of bootlegs...these guys are merely a copycat tribute band...nothing to get excited about

  • hey i just saw the dead yesterday, i'd say that DSO is about as close as it gets, which isn't all that close but as close as you'll get

  • listen to a band called shakedown street outta co been around 4 ever very very good

  • this is awesome! Almost as good as this painter I saw once who could paint just like Picasso. No really! Just like him! AMAZING!

  • I saw them last night (2-28-09) in Madison. I had never seen them before, but expected a good show, based on word-of-mouth. They were far beyond my expectatons, full of surprises. The two greatest surprises were "Visions of Johanna" and "Truckin." I had grown to hate "Truckin," but they did an absolutely kickin' version, rocking it up, full of energy. The only disappointment was the crowd, a tired-looking collection of fringe characters that was unlike any I remember from Dead shows.

  • i just saw these guys at the riverside last night they're amazing definetly worth seeing

  • saw them in seattle on friday nite. Amazing! almost perfect> one of the best concerts I've ever seen. better than some dead shows actually!

  • man see em before you start slingin out words like that =P

  • this JOKE band tours all over the place,

    so somebody thinks they're good.

    PEACE

  • bassist needs a 6-stringer like Phil ;-)

  • Well...for this show, he was actually playing one of Phil Lesh's old basses. So I say, if it was good enough for Phil... (even if it was from the Heineken era.)

  • saw them in Chicago. thanks 4 keepin the spirit alive.

    long live the dead.

  • A nice, sensitive version (although without the middle percussion section)...great job, guys...

  • it's a little stilted..., not open, forced and closed like all neo-hippies -just like the rent in san francisco. I can't afford it.

  • It's Brent's (really)

  • Nice to see a sick version of this song played on my Birthday 5 years ago.

  • lol!!! he does have the bobby nod when he plays.

  • its so crazy how much john sounds like jerry.

  • favorite Dead song of all time. Ive seen Darkstar 1 time in Charlotte and they were absolutely amazing. they played a wonderful rendition of Wharf Rat. Jerry may have died but thaanks to Darkstar "the music never stopped"

  • even typing "wharf rat" gives me massive goosebumps.... it's the sauce that ended jerry's life too early, almost took me out....still here and smiling :)

So much melancholy in that tune...

It is such a tragedy that a part of such pure love seems to be hurting yourself. Strange irony.

    sorry :)

    Music is love.

  • is this before the keyboardist died? he was a great player

  • Yes, Scott is playing keyboards on this show.

  • great keyboardist and friend

  • Free show in Buffalo! WooHoo!

  • wow flawless I can smell the petchule

  • I've been lucky enough to see Dark Star 4 times recently. They are great. It's not the Dead, we know that, but they are so good you really are transported back to another time.

    Go see them !!! Peace

  • I saw them about 2 months ago in Atlanta for the first time and I was completely amazed. They put on a good 4 hour show and I have some video if you want to see it. It is awesome as Hell. Peace.

  • Wow these guys hit all the right notes...What fun is that? Sounds like the Dead if they had practiced. They're kind of like photo shopped reality. The guitar player even has the Bob Weir head bob thing goin' on......cool

  • Another thing to add to my list of things to do before I die: see these guys.

  • I saw DSO for the 1st time last year at 3 rivers fest in fort wayne. They absolutely rock! I've seen over 50 Dead shows and DSO represents a portal in time that takes you back to a show you might have seen or just wish you did. Thank you thank you DSO. Looking forward to this July to see them again in fort wayne

  • I don't know, theyre holding back, just play the song, kick out all the stops and don't try to sound like Jerry, just sing the song your own way. No harm intended.

  • HOLY SHIT!! The hair on the back of my neck is standing! I seem to miss this band whenever this band comes to S. FL. Not next time! The real Dead need to pick up this Jerry's dubble and tour. If he grew a full beard he would even look like him.

Good work guys!! Thanks for keeping it alive!!

  • We're no GD tribute or cover band, but we try to keep the spirit alive ...chk our channel. Peace

  • OMG the catalyst...I lived in SC for 3.5 years...crazy times. Miss my Jerry Licks.

It's pretty amazing how mush these guys sound like GD. Even the vocals are very close.

  • uncanny, especially whilst spun.

  • RIP Scott...we surely miss you!

  • 2 grateful dead drummers =

    mickey hart & jim kruetzman

  • Comment removed

  • they did suck at woodstock

  • prefect best song by the grateful dead or suger magnolia

  • IMO the best dead song

  • can't wait to see them in Feb.

  • the dead rule the creative world

  • Scott Larned really had a Brent-esque style of playing, his loss is felt by all of the grateful dead community

  • I can't believe it! Excellent!

  • simply put, their good at what they do..period.

just go see them and enjoy yourself for an evening.

  • This is a really loose, authentic rendition of this.

  • ya, and john k is son. im 20. and wait rob is my ahh neighbor too

  • it's great to see scott living on for all to see in youtube land!!!

  • inspiration!!!!

  • its uncanny how similar their voices are.....

  • "its uncanny how similar their voices are....."

THEN YOU MUST BE TONE DEAF.

  • Actually he does sound like a bored, tired, junked out Jerry in the 80s-90s...

  • Haha yeah.

  • i like...does the dead justice....

  • Dark Star Orchestra is king in Ohio. Lisa is a singing goddess.

  • this is the best band around and the ledges is the best venue around

  • Rob Eaton, the lead singer, is my uncle you guys. I don't like the Grateful Dead, though. But, since he's my uncle, I see them when they're around.

  • Umm... yeah.

  • See these guys at the ledges all the time in ohio. I love this band to death!

  • I'm seeing DSO tonite at hampton beach in NH. These guys and gal are awesome and its a cool scene at the beach. This dude sounds just like Jerry... SWEET!!!

  • HELL YEAH I WAS! I went to the state theatre in VA both shows, so by friday i needed sleep. but i was totally there saturday night and they fucking rocked it!!

  • these guys are all great!! they were here in the DC area for 4 days and every fucking day they rocked out! wednesday-saturday was a huge party every night.2 in VA and 2 in baltimore..man i cant wait to do it again...

  • This is more than a Dead cover band. They literally channel the Dead.

  • they are playing for free this summer in my small ass piddly town~ chew on that punks. plus i saw them twice in the past year. i challenge anyone to cover dead songs even a fourth as well as these talented individuals. can't be done.

  • GD covers a too easy. I'm starting a Miles Davis Quintet cover band called the So What Ensemble.

  • is it me or is he singing to soft

  • is it me or is this a tad slow....

  • jasonp is a pussy and Bisco SUCKS

  • Are they doing a particular Dead show or an original set? The keys sound like something Vince would do, but everything else sounds like early Brent era to my ears.

  • It was a cover show.
