He's not an opera singer. He doesn't have the technique to sing opera and he uses a microphone which an opera singer would never do. His vibrato is very wobbly n places.

Real opera singers sing roles in complete operas in opera houses and never use microphones. Pop opera (or Popera) and opera are two different genres. Please listen to singers like Barbara Bonney, Jonas Kaufman, Joyce DiDonato, Diana Damrau who are real opera singers. There is a difference between them and popera singers.

As someone who is actually studying classical music and looking to pursue a career in opera, it takes more work, energy and passion to sing opera. Not many people really understand this.

I've just been arguing with someone who thinks Filippa Giordano is a wonderful singer and that I'm boring and narrowminded because I don't like pop opera performers. As you say, most people just don't understand the training and hard work it takes to be an opera singer. The fans of these popera performers can act pretty nasty towards those of us who disagree with them. They have no idea that their popera idols aren't real opera singers.
@LILRuthlessplaya88 I think you like many people today don't know what opera is. An opera is a work of drama/comedy which is sung (in a classical style,, without microphones) rather than spoken. Opera singer is a profession, it's someone who makes a living primarily from singing roles in operas. Singing in operas requires singing without amplification in 2000-4000 seat theaters over the orchestra, in 3-5 hour performances while acting a role at at high standards of perfection.

Singing in operas requires not only amazing talent, but also a lot of training. As to Carlos - he has talent, and maybe if he continued his studies in Puerto Rican conserevatory he would've become an opera singer, but he left it and choose to pursue "popera" instead.

I like it when he taps his chest at 2:41! He was probably thinking, "I'm gonna TEAR the roof off this place!". And he certainly did! What a beautiful, powerful voice this guy has! I would love to hear him singing with Barbara Padilla. Being the more experienced opera singer, she can take him under her wing and show him all the ropes of the music industry.
He reminds me of Domingo or Caruso, one of those legendary tenors. He's got a similar timbre to Domingo in his lower notes, but when he ascends into the upper strata of his vocal range he sounds more like the great Caruso! He's got TONS of potential to be an amazing opera singer! And I really hope he gets a contract with the NY Met or something.
Some people have compared him to Bocelli, but he surpasses Bocelli!

@rockmein08 America's Got Talent is a tv show, it's not a real competition. The judges "cast" the show, they have "roles" to feel, and they were fairly sure Prince Poppycock would get to finals, knew about Jackie, knew Carlos would get to the finals. They didn't want 3 "classical" singers in the finals, nor did they want one to win. Remember season 2? Braswell was better than Boyd, but they wouldn't allow Braswell to sing opera arias. I bet they didn't allow Carlos to sing what he wanted either.

It's very good to see that some people likes the Puerto Rican talent. I'm from Puerto Rico and this show is 1 of my favorites. I was surprised when Carlos appeared at the America's Got Talent... from all my years watching AGT, for what I remember, I've never seen a Puerto Rican appear on this show and Carlos showed america that there is talent in here and that it can be unexpected sometimes. Really glad you loved this guy and he should have been on the finals, but it's shame it was not like that
@JuPaDeIr87 Puerto Rican may not have appeared on AGT, but there are many great Puerto Rican opera singers. Not sure if you know, but there is a fabulous Puerto Rican soprano, Ana Maria Martinez who performs leading roles in top opera theaters all over the world. She isn't on AGT because she doesn't need AGT. There is also Carlos' teacher in Puerto Rican conservatory, one of best ever baritones, Justino Diaz - listen to his singing toreodor song, probably best ever. Others too.

He did not deserve to be sent home. My whole family was disgusted that piano lady went through and not him. Hopefully there were other circumstances that prevented him from going home other than a terrible decision.

I agree a percentage of the island needs to improve their English but you also need to remember that Spanish is our first language and that’s not going to change. I was born and raised in PR and my English is pretty dam good. How does LA compares to PR? Is English your first language? @ttiiyy Lots of people can't speak English, but they will eventually learn. Your ancestors probably didn't know either but they had to learn. Give them a chance to learn and stop criticizing. I've been to Puerto Rico, and yes, many people speak both English and Spanish. Spanish is their main language because that's what they've been speaking for centuries. Other U.S. territories speak other languages besides English, like America Samoa, and their English isn't perfect either.

And we don't have to go back to Spain because we are in our LAND.

He's not an opera singer. He doesn't have the technique to sing opera and he uses a microphone which an opera singer would never do. His vibrato is very wobbly n places.

Real opera singers sing roles in complete operas in opera houses and never use microphones. Pop opera (or Popera) and opera are two different genres. Please listen to singers like Barbara Bonney, Jonas Kaufman, Joyce DiDonato, Diana Damrau who are real opera singers. There is a difference between them and popera singers.

None of these has the voice, technique or training to be a real opera singer. They just sing opera arias, not roles in complete operas. They would not be invited to sing a complete role in an opera in a legitimate opera house. Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli, Carlos Aponte are all popera singers, too.

As someone who is actually studying classical music and looking to pursue a career in opera, it takes more work, energy and passion to sing opera. Not many people really understand this.

I've just been arguing with someone who thinks Filippa Giordano is a wonderful singer and that I'm boring and narrowminded because I don't like pop opera performers. As you say, most people just don't understand the training and hard work it takes to be an opera singer. The fans of these popera performers can act pretty nasty towards those of us who disagree with them. They have no idea that their popera idols aren't real opera singers.

@LILRuthlessplaya88 I think you like many people today don't know what opera is. An opera is a work of drama/comedy which is sung (in a classical style,, without microphones) rather than spoken. Opera singer is a profession, it's someone who makes a living primarily from singing roles in operas. Singing in operas requires singing without amplification in 2000-4000 seat theaters over the orchestra, in 3-5 hour performances while acting a role at at high standards of perfection.

Singing in operas requires not only amazing talent, but also a lot of training. As to Carlos - he has talent, and maybe if he continued his studies in Puerto Rican conserevatory he would've become an opera singer, but he left it and choose to pursue "popera" instead.

I like it when he taps his chest at 2:41! He was probably thinking, "I'm gonna TEAR the roof off this place!". And he certainly did! What a beautiful, powerful voice this guy has! I would love to hear him singing with Barbara Padilla. Being the more experienced opera singer, she can take him under her wing and show him all the ropes of the music industry.

He reminds me of Domingo or Caruso, one of those legendary tenors. He's got a similar timbre to Domingo in his lower notes, but when he ascends into the upper strata of his vocal range he sounds more like the great Caruso! He's got TONS of potential to be an amazing opera singer! And I really hope he gets a contract with the NY Met or something.
Some people have compared him to Bocelli, but he surpasses Bocelli!

@rockmein08 America's Got Talent is a tv show, it's not a real competition. The judges "cast" the show, they have "roles" to feel, and they were fairly sure Prince Poppycock would get to finals, knew about Jackie, knew Carlos would get to the finals. They didn't want 3 "classical" singers in the finals, nor did they want one to win. Remember season 2? Braswell was better than Boyd, but they wouldn't allow Braswell to sing opera arias. I bet they didn't allow Carlos to sing what he wanted either.

It's very good to see that some people likes the Puerto Rican talent. I'm from Puerto Rico and this show is 1 of my favorites. I was surprised when Carlos appeared at the America's Got Talent... from all my years watching AGT, for what I remember, I've never seen a Puerto Rican appear on this show and Carlos showed america that there is talent in here and that it can be unexpected sometimes. Really glad you loved this guy and he should have been on the finals, but it's shame it was not like that

Not sure if you know, but there is a fabulous Puerto Rican soprano, Ana Maria Martinez who performs leading roles in top opera theaters all over the world. She isn't on AGT because she doesn't need AGT. There is also Carlos' teacher in Puerto Rican conservatory, one of best ever baritones, Justino Diaz - listen to his singing toreodor song, probably best ever. Others too.

I agree a percentage of the island needs to improve their English but you also need to remember that Spanish is our first language and that’s not going to change. I was born and raised in PR and my English is pretty dam good. How does LA compares to PR? Is English your first language? @ttiiyy Lots of people can't speak English, but they will eventually learn. Your ancestors probably didn't know either but they had to learn. Give them a chance to learn and stop criticizing. I've been to Puerto Rico, and yes, many people speak both English and Spanish. Spanish is their main language because that's what they've been speaking for centuries. Other U.S. territories speak other languages besides English, like America Samoa, and their English isn't perfect either.

@ttiiyy I don’t know why, I have to find you in every Puerto Rican forum talking shit about us, nobody want independence from USA. You have to mind your own business Asian business you are not Latin or American, Just learn Spanish and stop interfering with PR affair, it is fruitless. This is Carlos Aponte forum not political forum. You said before many forums, that you are frustrated because everybody speaks Spanish in California.

ALL US citizens should learn English. We are not obligated to provide Spanish translations for you guys.

@ttiiyy Dear ttiiyy: All Puerto Rican living in USA speaks English/Spanish only some in the Island don't speak it. I speak four languages some of my colleagues PR speak six or at least two. You live in California which majorities are Mexican or Central American; they only like to speak Spanish.

@ttiiyy Puerto Ricans living in the island are Not Obligated to learn english. We don't need it in the island to survive. Those that move to US mainland should learn it and I know most of them do. However to be honest in Puerto Rico only about 16 -18% can speak fluent english. Everybody in the streets speak Spanish. Our nation and our Motherland are of hispanic culture, you like it or not. And we don't have to go back to Spain because we are in our LAND.

@CordilleraCentral I don't want to argue with you, but why did you use the word nation? PR is part of the US territory, and PR leaders are now fighting for statehood for PR. A state of a republic is not a nation. Have a good day.
