@giuseppeRraimondo well, see in real-life, those germans in this scene were all ethier extreamly young or really old, and had no combat expirence, they were all forced in the german army. so they some guy coming up just shooting them one by one and then a whole company came in, they were scared, they just wanted to leave. they never voulntered to join the nazis, like a draft but worse. it was join or die
@giuseppeRraimondo these were young kids forced in the nazi ranks.............. if your a 14 year old boy and grown men started shooting at you and killing your friends i think u would run too
@giuseppeRraimondo Fuckin Americans make the germans seem like shit in all there movies because they won the war but in real life they weren't so heroic they had much more casualties than Germany especially Britain and Russia in total the axis lost around 6million troops while the allies in total lost 21-23 million look at those fucking numbers fuck the allies and there stupid propaganda.
More effective combat army, pound for pound? Sure, that's what you get if you have a militaristic, fanatical society, where lots of the young males are 100% devoted to the leader. I'm not sure how relevant that point is, to this scene here, which is a recreation of an actual event. Perhaps you can recommend a better miniseries about WW2?
BOB is as good as accurate as any and better than most.
I know full well that their society was geared towards producing men for Germany's military. My point in my original comment was relevant to the person I was replying to, which by the looks of it, wasnt directed at you. When I say 'real movies' i mean things like Das Boot, Stalingrad, All Quiet on the Western Front etc. I never said I would recommend a better series than BOB, it is certainly the best depiction of ww2 yet but it is not accurate in certain areas(I will clarify if u want
Das Boot is very good. Stalingrad is crap. All quiet on the Western front is a classic, the remake is crap.
Having read the original BOB book, as well as the books written by Webster, Winters, Malarkey, Compton, Guarnere and Heffron, I think I'm pretty clued up as to where the inaccuracies, compositions and individual interpretations are. Mark Bando's website has an episode-by- episode critique in case you haven't seen it.
As I said, no arguments that overall, the German land forces were superior in terms of quality as a combat unit, but the same characteristics that enabled that, are exactly what led to the total ruin of their country, the slaughter of millions of their servicemen and civilians, and a national legacy that is rightly recalled with shame.
As for BOB, the series doesn't suggest that Allied troops were all better, it's simply the story of one (mostly) successful unit.
@fallschirmjager0000 There was never any Poles in the Waffen SS, in the Wehrmacht but not in the SS! A 1943 decree prohibited Poles from joining the Waffen SS.
@giuseppeRraimondo It was actually what happened. The element of surprise and they ran away too because both German artillery and American artillery was called in and the Germans were literally in the impact zone, so instead of staying and getting blasted to pieces, they tried to get out.
everyone saying about the "american series" blah blah blah. yes its american, but ii hope you know how sad this series is, and how man USA soldiers they show getting killed. just wanted to point that out.
@DeutschStahl Point A: They are SS so its kinda hard to feel sorry for them. Point B: Lt. Winters was actually haunted by the first SS soldat that he shot who happened to be a boy that for a moment smiled at him. But as you can imagine in combat it's kinda hard to stop and analyze your feelings of what must be done.
@norseman7088 It doesn't fucking matter if their SS, SS was a division, Those Americans should be arrested seeing how if a troop surrenders, you don't fire,
@DRGgang2 Well this actually happened so wheres the propaganda? The movie was made as a tribute to the company. Never seen a less educated comment than this one before.
@hitschler100 It's the actual account taken from both the American soldiers depicted in the series and from members of the other side. Do some reading if you really want to know.
@mustang6172 While there were volunteers from various fascist countries in the SS, there were no Polish units for obvious reasons. The SS trooper was lying. The Poles who did serve in the German armed services during WWII were either ethnic Germans or other minorities in Poland.
@323guiltyspark Excellent, finally someone else speaks the truth haha! So many times people have argued that official Polish outfits were set up by the Waffen SS but in fact there never was. A 1943 decree signed by Hitler prohibited any such units.
@HardyBoyFan101 the smoke wouldve given some cover if they were ambushed during their charge because winters wouldve been seen first and the soldiers. And its also a movie so its set up the scene where the kid was shot which was later a flashback for him in another part
Does anyone know exactly where this crossroads is located? I don't remember it being mentioned in the episode. Only that there was a ferry crossing nearby.
bro that battle took place in the early morning the US stayed up all night waiting to see what would happen the germans went to bed and were just waking up at the time they were supposed to be headed across the ferry on the other side of the hill on the far side
@JDean32100 This entire battle was a massively confused mess on the part of both sides. But a combination of good tactical sense and a TON of good luck ultimately allowed Easy Company to take the day. It could very easily had been a disaster though.
would you all just stfu..who cares who won most of what and who did little and bla bla..who fucking cares? nazi germany ended and thats all tht matters

fucking unreal^^ the American heroes and silly Germans what blether just idioticly. The Americans are just idiots and this they have always been! but nothing the in spite of good actors^^
Not half... Actually, there's no real way to say who won how much of the war, except in the case of Russia, who won 90% of it. (9 out of every 10 German soldiers that died in combat in WW2 were killed by Russians).
America was the INDUSTRIAL force that allowed the west to take the fight to Germany from Italy to the end, but in terms of fighting, on the western front, it was a combined effort. American casualties were really no higher than British, around 300,000. Russia lost tens of millions.
Yep that's true. Probably wouldn't have been so many if you didn't kill your own fucking kind. anyways, that's not true, 9 out of 10? bullshit. go fuck yourself
Didn't kill my own kind? What are you talking about?
It is true that 9 out of every 10 German soldiers that died in combat in World War Two were killed by Russians, on the eastern front. It's an absolute fact. The remaining one in ten were killed by the allies.
Why do you think the allies were so easily able to take France back after D-Day? The bulk of the German army was fighting the red avalanche on the eastern front, and spread thin on the western front.
"Why do you think the allies were so easily able to take France back after D-Day" - so easily? that landing was a fucking bitch...i dare you to tell any vet who was there it was easy, he'll smash your fucking skull...moving through france was no piece of cake either. hell of lot easier to talk about how simple something is in hindsight. As for russian casualties and american casualties; its a simple matter of quality vs quantity...famers defending their villages and trained soldiers
I think you took that too personally... In well under a year the allies landed on mainland Europe, took back the entirety of France and landed on the German side of the Rhine. Hundreds of thousands died, but it was relatively easy ON THE WHOLE.
As for quantity Vs. quality on the Russian front, that's a misconception. In 1941 and 42, the Russians used quantity, weight of numbers to win. From 1943 onwards, the Russians were an experienced, battle hardened army, but still had quantity too.
@DayveIsh I'm happy to see someone else understands the Russian Army did not rely on human waves to win the war. The infamous Hollywood favorite scenes of hundreds of unarmed Red Soldiers charging German positions was a scene frequently only seen in Penal Battalions. Regular Red Army soldiers were just as well trained and practical as any other Army during the war. The Soviet Union wasn't stupid. They did not rely on sheer mass alone to win battles. But it sure helped.
All stats relating to WW2 need to be treated carefully. My understanding is that just under 4 million GERMAN soldiers were killed on the Eastern front, out of a total of about 5.5 million (military) for the whole war. Plenty of other nationalities fighting against the allies on the Eastern front and everywhere else, Hungarians, Italians, Romanians, Iraqis, Libyans, Iranians, Slovaks, Finns, Vichy French, et cetera et cetera.
You are one to talk. You yourself had no objective arguments, it was all condescendence with no validity. Besides, I don't give arguments to stupid losers who watch videos of stuff they don't like just so they can complain about it. only stupid people do that.
it does not go here around may or, however, not it therefore that this film as historical is looked this he is not he represents only the representation of the winners of the war and I do not think that the Americans in France have landed and there could play John Wayne even if they with pleasure would have had and today in her films spread
too bad all of this actually happened, granted the film did dramatize it a bit. And this took place in Holland, not France, and what do you mean you don't think the Americans landed in France? Please clarify
