  • Thank you for the upload!

  • Thanks a lot mate.

Great help for a new Mac user.

I'm doing this installation on my macbook.

Typing from Windows 7 system. :D

  • Very helpful thanks

  • Great video, thanks for the upload

  • if i have a blank hard drive can i just buy the $30 lion disk and install it like that?

  • @benmejia93 you cant buy Lion osx on a disk, only as a thumb drive. if you purchased a thumb drive or made a Lion thumb drive / disk yourself then yes you can install it using the same method as above.

  • @TurtleKakashi oh ok thanks! but if i buy snow leapord 29.99 dvd itll work just by putting that right??

  • @benmejia93 yeh snow leopard definitely will work. i'd recommend installing lion though as its the latest operating system.

  • Thankyou. Second attempt but this time with your helpful video I got it to work.

  • Well done. Great video. Simple, easy to follow and was a great help.

  • Thanks a LOT ! :d

  • do you lose your data after installation?

  • @91Supercooler yes u do if your using this method. if u wanna keep your files u can just upgrade from leopard the standard way.

  • yeh pop dvd in restart and hold the alt key when the chime sounds

  • can I install snow leopard on a macbook? I just installed a new hard drive, and cannot get it to work.

  • awesome =) i appreciate it man, i'll try that and hopefully it works, i'll let u know later today

  • @turtlekakashi oh okay, how do i install it via USB please tell ;D

  • @norbieo you'll have to make a bootable drive but you prob wont be able to if your dvd isn't working.

  • @TurtleKakashi hey bro, i have a macbook air and i mistakenly deleted some OS files and it wont reboot now. I need to do a reinstall via usb, i downloaded the setup in my pc now what?

  • @khetab420hasam Download the program TransMac, use it to access your usb key, right-click on the usb drive in question, and from the context menu select Format disk->with disk image. Select the .dmg image of your Leopard DVD, and wait patiently while TransMac extracts the compressed image, then prompts you to format and copy.

  • @TurtleKakashi this pc im using right now is a windows lol i dont think we can do that from windows can we? macbook air wont turn on it stays at the apple logo.... any ideas what to do

  • @khetab420hasam transmac is a windows program which allows you to write dmg files to usb.. :)

  • @TurtleKakashi did not work for me. can't i just copy and paste the dmg file into the usb and install it from there?

  • @norbieo ok man, whenever i right click and do format disk-with disk image n select dvd file it says "This is a compressed dmg file. It must be expanded before it is written. Open teh dmg to add it to the treeview, then right-click and select expand." what does that mean and what do i need to do?

  • hey can someone please help me? i just got the snow leopard, and when i put it in i do everything but then after i press alt option, i only have the Macintosh HD icon, and as soon as it gets to that screen, the Snow Leopard CD automatically ejects.. help plz.

  • @norbieo try holding on "c" key insteap of option to boot straight from the cd. If that doesnt work double check if the dvd mounts on your desktop cos if it doesnt, either your dvd has issues or your dvd drive. you can also see if the dvd is readable if you put it in another computer to see. If it doesnt work you will either have to install it via usb or you will have to take it to the apple store.

  • If I have os x lion installed and it won't let me install snow leopard.. Will this help??

  • @ThePOProductionz yep.. by using this method you'd basically be removing everything on your hard drive and start again fresh.

  • Thanks dude,

  • Thanks. Great tutorial

  • Some non mainsrteam printers are not supported in snow leopard, my Mitsubishi dye sub does not work since I upgraded to snow leopard, the drivers are not available.

Check if drivers are available before upgrading.

  • @pedalman yup thats good advice right there :)

  • @TurtleKakashi Yeah, you live and learn .......I have had to format and reinstall leopard 10.5 ...the on screen message tells you that you cannot do this as there is a later osx 10.6 installed but a click on a box saying erase and install anyway was there as an option and an hour later Bingo ! I downloaded the 10.5 driver and my printer is working again .

The lesson I have learned is , dont upgrade if you dont need to.

  • thanks dude...

  • is u do this what happen to ur applications and softwares?

  • @panchoe57 installing snow leopard this way will remove all your old files and applications. if you wish to keep a hold of these things i would recommend upgrading it via the other method

  • its just an introduction thing.. all versions of snow leopard have it.

  • whats up with the screen at the end, how come there a bunch of words, and Asian characters. Or is it just a Logo thing?

  • Thanks for the tutorial. Helped me a lot.

  • are all the 'original' standard apps available on the dock once you reinstalled the system?

  • @brucasLovexo it will be restored to the factory default minus iLife (so no garageband, iPhoto's, imovie and iweb) you will have to install ilife seperately.

  • @TurtleKakashi how do I install those apps?

  • @brucasLovexo and yes it erases all your data so back up those important files.

  • @TurtleKakashi if u upgrade from leopard u wont lose your data ;)

  • @brucasLovexo unfortunately iLife is not on the Snow Leopard disc. You will either have to purchase a copy or download it.

  • @TurtleKakashi damn... ok thanks for your help! :)

  • Comment removed

  • thanks bro, helped me out a lot! :)

  • Cheers, Very clear, worked for me. Nice!

  • Cheers mate, helped me out!

  • Hi, how did you change your hard drive icon in the start up manager?

  • @Nadav34 check out a program called LiteIcon

  • Missed the menu up there, thanks for this video it's helpful.

Note: You can also boot up from cd by holding the c key.

    Cheers

  • Hi. I have a Boot Camp partition as well. If I select the Macintosh HD to delete it, will it remove the partition and I'll have to create a new one or will it just erase the content?

  • @ShakeAndBakeGuy if you erase the Macintosh HD the partition will still be there with with no data. so creating a new partition is not needed =)

  • your the SHIT!!!!!!!!thank you!!!!!

  • is this the same if i put in a new hard drive?

  • @capacop01 yeh if theres nothing on the HD then boot up from dvd and install it.

  • So when you erase your hard drive you need to back up all your data beforehand and re-install it?

  • @Loubatron Yes, everything on your hard drive will be erased so back up your important files and move them back when you've installed Snow leopard.

  • If I have an external hard drive with my backup via Time Capsule, can I erase the main drive, install the new OS and restore my data from the Time Capsule drive just like it was before? Will I lose anything?

  • @Xehanortheartless your current time capsule will work on your newly installed snow leopard no problems.

  • Was that the upgrade DvD you bought for $30 or was it a different DVD?

  • @threeclock it was the upgrade $30 dvd

  • Vielen dank!

  • tried it. works great. thanks!

  • can i do it with an upgrade dvd? because if i format the drive with the current mac osx system on it then the upgrade technically won't be an upgrade but rather a full installation from scratch

  • @DRNBAR yes you can.. the full snow leopard 10.6 is on the dvd.

  • awesome... thank

  • thanks for the video! I needed to know =)

  • TurtleKakashi you sound like a streetwise rudeboy lol: "you GET ME!!!!"

  • I used the same instruction for Leopard. Thanks a lot! :)

  • good job.

  • if i have a blank hard drive with no os on it can i still install it without an os on the hard drive

  • yup, in this case skip the "erasing the hard drive" steps and go straight to installing from the disc. =o)

  • thanks a million brother! your vid really helped me! u should work as a mac genius!

  • so r u saying that even if i dont have any os loaded on my black mac 2.2ghz i can still install Snow Leopard right ways ?

Can i also install it from a pen drive ?

  • yep as long as your usb is formatted correctly than installing from a usb should be fine.

And yes you can install it onto a macbook with no OS. Essentially your just writing OS files onto the bootable drive either from a DVD or USB source.

  • and sd hc card!

  • If you did not want to follow this way, could you just format normally and install Leopard fresh and then snow leopard afterwards?

  • yeh you can but why would you do that?? the outcome would still be snow leopard.. i highly recommend you install SL straight skipping Leopard altogether.

  • well apparantly the ones at that apple store are stupid lol

  • omg thank you for the video because i asked the apple people and they said no this all they got. i would rather have a clean install then a caked patched os

  • i thought they were supposed to be geniuses
