if you cant boot from usb: google plop boot manager boot from that first(via floppy, cd, ...) and then boot into whatever you want(like for example usb)
@Coedy You totally missed the point of the question so let me elaborate for you since you don't get it.. What if the 1TB drive crashes? How are the two 250GB drives going to do anything about that? It can't. Unraid fails.
FreeNas ... great for small group of user that like speed
UnRaid ... great for user that data really importan (it's the only one that if 2 drive fail in the same time. data on other drive can restore) or server that serve many user.
Drobo ... some thing between plus super easy to used
I see black flag huh.

unraid is good, but expensive and slow. 20 bucks for a pro acct, then I''ll buy !

Well I can say that after watching you two have said, this might not be the best option for a NAS system, it seems to be very limited.
But it has been nice leaning what is available.

Ok, but they don't mention what happens when the largest drive fails...
Say you have 1TB drive, and two 250GB drives? How are the two 250GB drives goign to reconstruct the storage on the 1TB drive?
Euph0ria74 2 years ago
Because the largest drive is the parity - you just replace the large failed drive. No data is lost.... at least that's my understanding.

@Euph0ria74
he said about 4 or 5 times,
You set the largest HDD as the parity drive...
that way you dont get that situation...

I like the idea of being able to swap out the smallest drive for a larger one, but I think I'll stick with FreeNAS and RAID5.
cypher1024 2 years ago
so what if the bigger HD fiel? em my gonna have all my files in the smaller disk?

So which one in you opinion is better : Free Nas Server, UnRaid or Drobo. (Not factoring price)
mindyourowndamnself 2 years ago
Answer : depend on purpose.
FreeNas ... great for small group of user that like speed
UnRaid ... great for user that data really importan (it's the only one that if 2 drive fail in the same time. data on other drive can restore) or server that serve many user.
