  • some bonehead said this did not swing? are you deaf? dead? or what......

  • utterly exquisite ... wow

  • imagine if your balls were under those mallets...

  • 3 people don't know what Jazz is.

  • MJQ Knew their P's And Q's-Connie Kay , showed the Silent Wayy.

  • Blues for Junior

  • MJQ What are you gonna do.

  • It's the I IV V progression...Live it up!

  • hes always had great melodic playing. ahhhh i love him!

  • I hate people.

  • listen LA MAGIA DEL SAX by Minicillo

  • Comment removed

  • Bags is my idol!! None greater than him. He bridged the gap between Jazz and Beebop and even into Fusion. My man 100 grand

  • (I don't speak very good english) but where can I have bass partition ?

  • Brilliant...Just been listening again to Tubby Hayes 'Down In The Village' Compares brilliantly to this...in fact...I say it's better! But both great pieces of music.

  • oh bags you genius you

  • Back in the day, like way back, i do believe Milt Jackson's nickname was Bags. I think they played at Jazz City in L. A. now and then.

  • Piano player is John Lewis

  • I've seen that piano player on other jazz videos, Im curious as to his name

  • Oh yeah, this used to be my jam. Back in the day. I love this song. Go Milt Jackson and the rest of the band...... The piano player mystifies me, who the hell is he???

  • I think it´s Count Basie^^

  • @LL99LL (someone correct me if i'm wrong about any of these) Piano: John Lewis, Bass: Percy Heath, Vibes: Milt Jackson, Drums: Kenny Clarke

  • i've heard a live bag's groove, which the bassist had an unaccompanied solo. i wonder if theres a video of that.

  • Milt jackson is a true vibraphonist. No one better. Lionel Hamptomn was the only other popular vibe man. I'm sure Milt learned from Lionel, but Milt has him beat. Because he plays vibes like people want to hear. Lionel Hampton played vbes that HAD to be heard. There is a difference. But My hat off to Lionel

  • the vibes are a bit too low, they seem to be muted, that' s a pity. becuz Milt "bag" Jackson plays very well...

  • The bass viol work is sensational!

  • agreed

    pearcy heath is a badass

  • many years ago, a jazz critic wrote that the mjq didnt swing. and STILL he got paid!

  • I've heard that one, too, and all I can say is, maybe some people have to be hit over thehead before they get it!!

  • The video quality is so bad that it becomes an ARTform

  • ;D yea right^^

  • Really catchy song.

  • hermoza pieza ,que sutilesa ,,de musica me gusta mucho el jazz ,soy peruano les invito a escuchar a gabriel alegria jazz fusion peruano ,,saludos ,,,

  • is there the rest of this video anywhere

  • i love to listen as much as i love to play.

    paul.

  • No man, a quart like that is sharing not only the room but their blood.

Those masters got soul, no chance they spit demons at eash other, true soul man!

  • These guys supposedly all despised each other... they would not only have separate hotel rooms when they toured....but separate hotels!

  • there are many reasons to have some distance while on tour that don't involve hate. hard to think this music could have happened in such an atmosphere!!

  • Really Good Quartet Here!

  • A smiling Connie Kay I haven't seen too often. An unbelievably swinging drummer. And yes, Pablo, Percy Heath is my favourite bass player, too. The biggest tone in the business, always laying back, rhythm for rhythm's sake, you name it.

  • this is lovely

  • My first jazz show was at the Lighthouse (30 Pier Avenue, in Hermosa Beach...). I saw the MJQ. I was 13years old and have been a jazz lover ever since. I love the act that you can hear Percy Heath, my favorite bass player, in this video. So tasteful. Thanks for posting this.

  • It's too bad that the sound quality is at par with a concert recorded through a cellphone. However, it still better than nothing.

  • The 1954 version together with Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk is unsurpassed. It is what got me into Jazz in the first place. (Prestige LP 7109)

There is no video of it though.

Despite the audio and video problems this one is still quite enjoyable.

  • Orgasmic!!!

  • Slightly asynchrone, grainy ,washed out: a total piece of modern art... and miles to short, yet very enjoyable

  • i love that sound

  • TheModern Jazz Quartet and especially Milt Jackson has always provided a sound basis of jazz; that is it swings and has melody and feeling and harmony.

  • Nobody swings like Milt Jackson. Leaves me wanting more! Thanks for the post.
