All of you stupid people who give negative feedback to this video because you wanted to see people die in a marathon... I swear some people have no intelligence left
you people who are making negative comments about his condition, stop. It wasn't just any race. He ran for a little girl, her family and for Shaken Baby Syndrome. Stop with the stupid comments. You can't watch a video and judge him on the way his body reacted afterwards. Stop making this video about conditioning and training.
Don't ever do a long endurance event without training for a few months first. The muscles (including your heart) aren't adapted to the stress and will break down and cause "crush syndrome" which is life-threatening. you should do more of these Adam, but please train for it first.
this guy was too fat dude to even run this race and Im pretty sure he did not rain hard or didnt even do one long run, nutrition is also the key man. you got to eat the right foods before and after your training. this guy seems like a noob. you aint no runner
I'm not sure if this is bad. But every time I run, even if it only is a mile like 5 minutes later I star shaking and las time I fainted while trying to take a shower. Is this some problem I only have or is here others with the same problem?
@amybonj If its just your legs that are shaking it could just be a trapped nerve, and if it was a cold shower you past out because your body temperature changed too drastically.
Beautiful Display of memories for such a moving cause. I know exactly the emotions of just running and being present at the LA Marathon. My nephew, at 12 did the whole run and I cheered him on along the way. AMAZING!
A marathon so that babies won't be shaken? Okay, here in germany you get that with the pregnancy courses, the hospital tells you that (for free naturally) and I think nearly everywhere in books, caritas etc it's proclaimed but if in america the system still has not reacted I think that this is a wonderful action to spread the news around. Good that I live in germany, many things that seem not known or less public are here everyday and common knowledge.
Unless you have run one, you have no idea how your body jacks you up. I trained my ass for one 2 days ago for my 2nd race. And my body shut down early. Things happen during one of these races. Even pros have body shut downs. The main thing is dont stop. Just finish.
This seems like self righteous drama to me. Adam nearly dies for his cause--is the focus here the "cause" of preventing the truly heinous act of shaking a baby? or Adam and his plight? I kept getting confused. Perhaps he should have been better prepared, more well hydrated, and had a better understanding of his limits.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't support this mission as it contributes to more shaken babies not less. While well intentioned, it shows a fundamental lack of understanding about human nature.
Education based videos and materials have decreased events of child abuse around the world. My daughter Hannah was killed and every single opportunity i get i will be letting the world know not to shake babies.
Too bad Adam's experience has distracted people from the main message. Control your anger and never shake a baby, young child, teen, adult, pet, or any living thing!!!
Still, some of you should read about the causes and symptoms of Rhabdomyolysis. I ran the L.A. Marathon that year and it was very hot. You can see from the video that Adam is a muscularly bulky guy, making it harder for the body to keep its core temperature down. Proper hydration is critically important in these conditions.
You go Adam!!!!! You should be very proud. I'm glad you're ok! I love that you were wearing your medal into the ambulance!!!! That's a true marathoner!
maybe just...the "awareness" factor of it. You would be surprised how many people don't know that if you shake your baby violently you just MIGHT kill them.
To me it's common sense but people surprise me sometimes at the lack of "knowing" they have.
When they run for a cause they get sponsors and say for every mile they run they get a certain amount of money from each individual sponsor. Its not a whole lot they get but it adds up when you get a lot of them and plus some big companies will sometimes also sponsor you.
The most devestating form of child abuse against infants and toddlers. Its when someone shakes a baby to stop them from crying. It hurts the babies brain and cant recover from the swelling and bleeding.
@protectakid I hope it gets a little easier for you with each new day. That would be my worst nightmare !! Well done on the marathon. Don't listen to the negatives. Sorry for your loss. Your little angel is watching you with pride.

You are an incredibly malicious person. No one deserves to nearly die. And you know absolutely nothing about the person in the video, so please don't talk.
the truth is malicious in most cases sweetie, i train hard everyday in every single aspect of my life to become a great athlete. and some schmuck who doesnt know how to train gets all the praise in the world
haha, if you really want to know about my running, message me. my mentor is Dr. Jack Daniels (no, its not a joke). he is considered one of the greatest distance coaches ever. he developed original testing for VO2Max at different training intensities including interval paces, repetition paces, fast paces, and easy paces. developed proper methods of pushing lactate threshold in the blood. like i said before...if you want my accomplishments as a coach and an athlete...message me.
WOW how precocious. This guy had balls running this. If he almost died then he almost died. I have respect for someone bucking up and doing what needs to be done.
Despite his acerbic nature, I think there's a grain of truth in KingAttle's comments. Rhabdomyolysis is caused by skeletal muscle trauma. The fact that he was slower than someone who was walking at one point, and the seeming lack of sweat indicate that he was undertrained and dehydrated.
Two major contributing factors. Both from lack of preparedness.
While the intentions might seem well, the end result is less than desirable. Look before you leap.
ugh i hate when people lyke u act lyke smart asses...douche fag... dont comment on the video if u dont lyke who is in it and what happens in it. No1 needs to know about training im a Cross Country runner. There is will power in a runner during a race. So shut up and dont talk. -_-
haha....great...you run xc...want a medal since you probably dont earn them at races? haha...everyone needs to know about training...OR WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS VIDEO HAPPENS...apparently there are some people who agree with me in that proper training should be implemented. i act like a smart ass cause i am a smart ass. i know my shit and i'm highly succesfull with what i do
yea hardly any ppl agree with u..this vid isnt about training its about running for a cause and in this case its about a little girl. Many ppl run the boston marathon for fun, and they dont have to train b/c if for FUN. AND by the way Most ppl hate smartasses b/c they're DICKs! lyke you pfft.
you think i give a flying fuck if some shitty athlete on youtube hates me?! HA! this video is about training because this man didnt do it and ended up in the hospital...if he trained even to the SLIGHTEST degree he would have not needed an ER trip. the Will is being able to train DAY AFTER DAY through every aspect of your life; sleep, nutrition, mental health, proper training/programming, injury prevention, proper hormone training all of which need to be learned and practiced
That's not true about the training. Sometimes even a well prepared athlete has a medical condition that sends them to the ER. I run 40 mpw and train hard. Nonetheless I was on a bus coming back from a Forensics meet (public speaking) and the bus broke down and a chemical got out. Because I have asthma I was affected and was sent to the hospitol in an ambulance. I've been a runner for almost four years and I had that experience because of my medical condition...my point: Give this guy a break!
This marathon was for Hannah! He was running for her and her family's fight against Shaken Baby syndrome!!Instead of taking time to be insulting, vulgar, and rude.. Please educate yourself on SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME
Things like this happen when people don't respect the marathon for being the endurance test it is. They don't train properly for an adequate amount of time, or fuel their bodies sufficiently to cope with the distance. You can tell half these people haven't trained for marathon distance, just by their shape. I'm not being rude, but this is what happens when novices think they can take on this challenge without due preparation.
@Bundy06091969 At work someone asked me how long I'm going to train for a marathon in february. I said "12 weeks". Their response was "That's how long it takes? That's 3 months!" My response to that, "Well, keep in mind I'm starting that 12 weeks after I'll have just ended a 12 week training program for a Triathlon" They then asked how many of these marathon/triathlon things I plan on doing every year.... 4.
@Bundy06091969 I am 5'10 200lb and I am like 20-25 lb overweight. I ran 10 marathons and completed 2 Ironman (Vineman). Doing IMAZ next month. our shape mostly determined by how much you eat and how healthy you eat. For Ironman I train 6 days a week for 10 months. Why am I still overweight? Because I eat bad. People bonk in all physical fitness, not training enough is one of the many reasons.
Rhabdomyolysis is a potentially fatal disease that causes the muscles in the body to break down and disintegrate. His muscles were literally falling apart, and releasing all the chemicals contained in them into his bloodstream, I'm not surprised his body went into a state of shock with all these chemicals in his blood that shouldn't have been there, and it could have been a lot worse than it was...
It's great that he's ok, especially after putting all that effort into running the marathon.
that was very inspirational i have a friend who ran at the state meet and broke both her tibia and fibia less than 100m's from the finish line but i think adam's story is just as if not more interesting
Your wrong, without treatment and close monitoring of the kidneys and lungs the muscle breakdown can be fatal. I was in the hospital with marathon runners after the race and the doctors were very serious about this.
The muscle that breaks away from the tissue cant filter through the body if to large.
Thanks for posting this. I'm sure many people will reconsider a casual attempt of a marathon after watching this video.

The muscle that breaks away from the tissue cant filter through the body if to large.
