  • So beautiful yet heart-breaking.

  • It' not God's will - it was the will (of the neglect) Bush Administration and FEMA:)

  • Whoever dislikes this piece, breath sinks, and their momma wears armyboots. IJS

  • 3:50- 5:08 , that whole part jus made me like. its hard to explain. but u can really feel the music if u jus close ur eyes and listen, u feel the emotion in this song. i love this piece in particular, as well as his version of the Eve's Bayou album.

  • I listen to this beautiful piece and I Still see all those painful images from the Spike Lee documentary and I still get a little angry because I can feel the pain that's so well embodied in this piece. It's so amazing....

  • 2:34 is just beautiful...

  • I saw him perform this entire soundtrack at Tanglewood, I cried. He is a genius

  • I heard this on my local college station a couple of years ago. The dj's just couldn't stop talking about it. Then I heard this track. It is very rare that a jazz track hits my chest like a ton of bricks. This is one of those rarities. I didn't catch the name of the song, I just barely caught the album's name. Thank you very much for posting.

  • I saw him with Branford Marsalis!!! They jammed for like 3 hours and it felt like 20 minutes. Rockin!

  • According to Blanchard, 5:40 is when the levees broke, and the rest with his trompet, it's the people in the roofs of their houses, begging to help

  • I can just feel the sorrow and the lamation for the victims of hurricane Katrina. How can a song be haunting and beautiful at the same time?

  • This song is powerful......

  • I know that this music is too good to use the word "fuck" in my comment, but anyway, gotta say this: "this is fuckin amazing". Blanchard is sooooo talented, my top fav. jazz musician, besides Komeda, Stanko and Mehldau. Wish to see him playin live someday...

  • Increible.Sutil.Maravilloso.Sensual.Penetrante....En pocas palabras UNA OBRA MAESTRA

  • It simply does not get better. WHERE are the REAL musicians like this these days??? Either they are so hung up on the technical BS of a musical piece or they as most can't...simply STAND AND DELIVER ....as this piece does.

  • Few things musically raise the hair on the back of my neck these days, except very late one night when this came on the radio.......when I heard this I had to call the DJ at WUWM to find out who it was. Wonderful, just glorious.

  • i feel you, its much more powerful when watching it with the documentary he composed it for. glad cats appreciate the music.

  • Love it.

If you haven't heard it yet, check out his work on the Inside Man soundtrack. Humbling, inspiring music.

  • watched him perform this live a while back and it was absolutely mind blowing

  • this is probably one of the most beautiful / painfull songs ive ever heard when i saw this film the soundtrack stuck out like a sore thumb to me. and i hope all who survived katrina are doing well today for those who didnt may they r.i.p for they were delt a shitty hand of cards by the govt and there week long delay.

  • I just saw the film "when the levees broke" what a masterpiece and what a bloody shame for the US government.

The music was just brilliant though. Blanchard's music was just perfect for this film. His family was a victim of Katrina and you can feel that in his music...

  • masterpiece
