Twain wrote "A Mysterious Stranger" at the end of his life, and in fact, never finished it. Hos good friend did. So it never turned out exactly as Twain had planned. When he wrote it, he was much more bitter and sad that his younger days, so this reflected that. He even was sympathetic towards the character Satan.

After watching this I took time to read 'A Mysterious Stranger' and it's probably one of the best books I've read. I like how accurate this clip is in the action and dialogue but they made Satan way too evil. In the book he's more of a philosophical entity who points out the hypocracy and arrogance of human beings but he has no prejudice or human emotions. Bloody good clip, read the book if you can!

Again: This is NOT Mark Twain. It is one man's fantasy of the dark, cynical side of Mark Twain. Remember, Twain wrote for a living: his stuff needed to sell. His will said the dark stuff should not be released for 500 years.

Twain did not publish Mysterious Stranger! His biographer did (and even wrote some of it).

Watch the whole show before rendering judgement. Then read Letters From the Earth. It' hilarious. But Twain was no Christian: the devil and god are the same guy, to him.

Here in Canada this was never banned on television.....

They played it all the time in the late 80s and early 90s on the 'then equivalent' of TMN..... I think they may have even played this in the last ten years on Teletoon if I am not mistaken.

Sure, this cartoon is probably Christian. Although, the Satan portrayed in this cartoon brings up quite a bit of subject matter akin to the Satanic mindset.
