They would have kept sending troops to their death even though we have tried to get their surrender countless times. Even after the first Nuclear bombing the Japanese still didn't want to surrender and tried to fight back

There was no real hope of Japan surrendering prior to the atomic bomb. The Japanese people were activly preparing to fight to the death - they have museums in Japan about this. Atleast one has a ceramic grenade shaped like a doll intended for children suicide attackers. If the bombs weren't dropped, there would have been an invasion, and in addition to millions of American casualties, it would have essentially ended in the near genocide of the Japanese people.

Even if there was a negotiation being discussed (which I sincerely doubt given the stern culture of Japan's military forces), they refuted the first bomb being dropped and only relented after the second one was detonated. I'm not saying anyone deserves that horror - but they also didn't respond properly if you're suggesting they were considering surrendering in the first place.

But yeah the Russians where the ones that beat Germany IMO, they fought them for years, America joined the European war (Actual soldiers on the ground not air bombing & support) only on 6 June 1944 (D-Day)...

The purpose of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his -George S Patton- That includes civilians When a country goes to war itw whole populace becomes a legitimate target in my mind as the civilians while not actively fighting are supporting their own countries war effort. The longer a war is allowed to continue the more will die on both sides this is inevitable. The bombs just expidited the wars end and thus saved millions of US AND Japanese lives.

@keebut Actually they went exactly as far as the Russians, they stopped right before Berlin and let the Russians take it. General Eisenhower know how much losses it would take to capture the city and decided the "glory" of capturing Berlin isn't worth the lives of his soldiers.
But yeah the Russians where the ones that beat Germany IMO, they fought them for years, America joined the European war (Actual soldiers on the ground not air bombing & support) only on 6 June 1944 (D-Day)...

After Crushing Russia, we should have turned our sights on Germany and taken them out. WIth Europe in our control Japan would have fallen next then the pacific is ours. the point of the bombs was to make them surrender before even MORE people died (at the cost of thousands of civillians, yes),----think about it, if the bombs werent used, we'd have to invade Japan head on, resulting in even more deaths (ON BOTH SIDES!)

@aabceacba actually you are wrong. US had to finish the war, and they needed to show their strenght. Nukes where made to get sure if Nazis start throwing them on USA, US army can respond them. They had to finish war in Japan, becouse it was nearly impossible to take over Japan in a invasion, becouse Japs would never surrender. They needed to show thei superior strenght to the world and Soviet Union. Nuclear Weapon made clear that if someone strike, there is no world anymore, so there was no WW3

@OrthodoxySoldier We're both right, they were meant to end the war sooner and show our strength, but it was also to save Allied soldiers from getting killed (at the time, we didn't care about the J soldiers, (I'm sure you know all in's and out's with that)).
My point was,....two cities are wiped out....but four Islands spared from head-on invasion.

@K0UK0U True, there were many deaths after the blasts, and one would have been enough. However, the reason the second bomb was dropped was because Washington didn't get a response from Japan. After waiting 3 days, they US government misinterpreted the delayed response as defiance, so proceeded with bombing Nagasaki. Try not to get me wrong, I don't hate Japan (just their generals in WW2). I'm just pointing out the other side of the story. But yes, I hear you.

@aabceacba i agree. If america would have American and her allies would have lost an estimated 250,000 men and the Japanese would have lost over 5 million soldiers and civilians. The Japanese trained the civilians in hand to hand combat so they would not surrender. The bomb, even though deadly and catostophic was the only way to win and end the war. Over 6 million on both sides could have died in a fullscale evasion of Japan.

And the American Government was not willing to muster the ressources needed to invade Japan, this has nothing to do with saving millions of Americans or Japanese by averting an invasion but with efficiency.

If we invaded the mainland it was an expected death toll in the millions for the U.S. It was also excpected the 75% of the japanese population would die before surrendering to us. So in the end we not only saved the lives of our own, but japanese lives too. Not to mention after the war we rebuilt all their citys and gave them food.

@Apockelipse I dont remember arguing with you or why I was. But Ill have a go at it. But Ill have a go at it. All we did is boot out the natives. BUt they dident organize or do much to stop us so that their problem. Besides, there desendants live on tax free land with like no laws and make tons of money off casinos. So its a win win.
