There is no crisis, it's just another excuse to jew us out of money. If there's this shortage, then why the fuck can you find the things on every site in existence? They're just milking this thing to keep the price up as long as they can. Even if they don't sell that many, they still make a profit on the 100% markup.
@moriya2k2 What's odd is now, notebook hard drives are cheaper... yeah, I said CHEAPER than some desktop hard drives! Newegg had a 1TB notebook hard drive on sale for much cheaper than desktop 1TB drives. The demand for desktop drives is higher, to they are overpricing them to make money. I wouldn't be surprised to see people buying 2.5" drives and adapters to fit them into their desktop computers!
@moriya2k2 Seagate and WD were affected the most. WD produced over 60% of all drives in Thailand.. and that factory was gone all of a sudden. People started buying other HDDs and couldn't keep up with the demand. At times, I was lucky to get ANY HDD (as in being in stock)..
Those who say that there's simply no crisis are just plain ignorant.
@Knaeckebrotsaege Yeah, maybe that was true a few months ago, but there's no way you're going get me to believe that they're still supply constrained. It's been 3 months since the disaster, and yet you can find the things everywhere. They're just milking this crisis for all it's worth. Pure and simple.
We need to have a Hard drive Factory in the good ole USA! The price people paying for hard drives these days, should clover the salary of a U.S worker. This will create more jobs!
Also, if you look on ebay the sellers are raising the prices of ones that have nothing to do with the "flooding" in Thailand. Just to try and make money off of this so called crisis and stick it to the buyers who are in need.
Yes. I have noticed that the prices have atleast doubled since I did my computer builds! What is going on? I will definetly wait until the prices come down if I can. Rediculous. Thanks for the info.
Hmm, browsing Newegg today, I saw that external 1Tb hard drives are sometimes CHEAPER then the internal counterparts (bit(dot)ly(slash)yb2rtJ)

These prices are the precise reason why I haven't retired a couple of my older 160 GB drives and replaced them with 1 TB drives.
