@milascave2 from what i gathered from 'classic albums: transformer' it was actually about the glam rock movement. although i'm sure it was in some way related to transvestities, being that it WAS written by lou reed . . .
@newfuckingwave Yea. He wrote about them a lot. It was one of his obsessions. And he lived with one for a while. And, more power to him, fo doing what he wanted to do.
Of course that was before he hooked up with Laury Anderson.
i first came to love this album when i was very young, probably around 11 or 12. my dad had the album on an '8 track' cassette in his car and my brother ended up claiming it..
I wonder if this was the original inspiration for Fad Gadget's 'Lady Shave', a song virtually about the same topic. In a vague, not genre-wise way of speaking, Fad Gadget and Lou Reed are pretty similar, they each have a unique sound among their respective peers and their lyrics always have a story-teller aura about them.
i learned the bassline by myself : )

wonderful song... but what does it matter, long-term? we're all going to die, you know. Life, it's senselessly cruel... (hint)

The stuff of time capsules. On par with Warhol's paintings and John Schlesinger's Midnight Cowboy.
