Argh that woman is an idiot. She acts like she's talking to a teenager who gets in lots of trouble instead of an important amazing artist of this generation. And seriously, asking him if he's going to be a Jim Morrison or Kurt Cobain "cliches of a rock and roll lifestyle". I'm sorry...is that what they are?? Idiot.
@bluecenterlightpop10 I thought she was al right, I mean she wasn't like perfect but I've seen interviewers be really shit to him before and she seemed to show at least some sensitivity and tact but I see what you mean about the " talking to a teenager who gets in lots of trouble" thing, it was like she was talking to a toddler that had just fallen into a hedge, ridiculous...
As far as the celebrity car crash bullshit comments are concerned,THIS INTERVIEW IS FROM 2007!!!!! He's not using anymore!!! He has an opiate Implant!!!! He cant do drugs even if he tried!!! He's Clean now!!! So shut up!!! He's proven himself ENOUGH!!! Just listen to Shotter's Nation!!! You mean you can't HEAR the change in him!!! Fuck's SAKE!! Let the man live!!!!
@ciarannevin1 why?? i don't know if you remember when this interview was broadcast but at the time pete was being demonised. I think kirsty wark was trying to humanise him and show that he was a talented musician and a poet rather than just a celebrity car crash. I actually think this interview is kind of iconic. It's just a pity that he has gone down the car crash route.
He seems like such a sweetie. :) If only the people that think he's just a drug-addled musician would listen to his lyrics or watch interviews, they'd see he means well...
I haven't watched this for quite a while, but this time I watched it and it dawned on me that Kirsty Wark seems a little bit unnerved by Peter. I don't think she was planning on getting the answers she got from him. He out-answered her questions by a long shot... It's like she accidentally pitched him the perfect pitch and he knocked it out of the park instead of striking out. Hard to explain what I mean.
Always thought Pete was a bit of a numpty really. But then looking further into things, I see that it's the medias fault he gets the image he does. Sure, he's not squeaky clean as everyone wants 'celebraties' to be... but everyone makes mistakes.
I hope Pete manages to sort himself out. He's a modern poetical genius.
Please Peter, don't EVER push that self destruct button, & don't allow anyone else to get to you enough to let them at it either. You don't just have a special gift, you ARE the special gift. Don't let anyone or anything ruin it for you. Not pushing advice, just offering it...as someone who has learned the HARD way what it means to need your family and true friends & to have them trust & know that they have you too. That's the bottom line to it all. Everything else is the icing on the cake.
i know his mum, shes the nurse at my school. she doesnt like people asking her questions about his drug problems cause thats what everyone was asking her loads. so i told her how much i love the libertiens babyshambles and pete, and i told her that he's like my musical hero. and she acautly talked to me while i was meant to be sick. i think people concentrate too much on his drug taking. they need to acutally listen to the music and see what a taletened guy pete doherty is

@jemmaaw i couldnt have put it any better meself mate i hate the way everyone sees an addict, as an ex heroin addict i know what thats like, ive been clean for years but most people never see you the same again, its wrong, people can change but only when there ready to, and as far as Pete, i love pete and everything he's done, i honestly believe he's one of the most talented people of his time with or without drugs, i just think theres assholes out there who allways concentrate on the negative.
@martymartymarty1232 shut up you wanker. i do know his mum she works at my school. Its can windsor school, its an army school in german for army kids. So shut your face, pete doherty went to my school too! his dads a major on camp my dad knows him and his sister is a nurse in the med centre on camp.
AND PETE IS'NT A MESSED UP WANKER. YOUR A MESSED UP WANKER! pete doherty is one of the best english musicans and has amazing talent. dont you listen to the lyrics. and havent you watched this? cause if you watched it properly you'd see what hes really like! so screw you :)

It's really sad that his father refuses to talk to him because of his drug use. He was a perfect academic : he got straight A's in his A-Levels and got that scholarship to Russia for poetry. He took one croked turn and his father won't give him the support to see him through his addiction. He's a seemingly decent person, funny and obviously extremely talented. It's sounds like to me all of his goods out weigh the one bad and I think his father should try to help him see the addiction through.
i adore him :) i admit i used to be so annoyed by him and his constant drug use but the more interviews i see of him being honest and funny and intelligent and even completely exposed, the more I come to admire him. I obviously don't admire his drug use but every other part of him.
"They dont take their inspiration from the drugs, they take their inspiration from the songs." well fucking said Pete. I'm sick of interviewers thinking that fans of his gonna go out and shoot up just because he does. We can love him without loving the drugs.
Kind of a hard interview, and he handles it very well. Hes not only a gifted musician and poet, but also a clearly sensitive and clever guy ( and pretty hot i have to admit ^^ ). To my mind, he is one of the most emblematic, and charismatic artist of our generation, we dont care about his drug pbs, he is brilliant.
She is so un-cool and lame!! I just want to throw a cream pie in her face. She seems like someone that wears three pairs of underwear under her other layers of clothing......... couldn't they have chosen someone cooler --or that at least cares about music to interview Pete? For chrissake, she looks/acts like she listens to friggin Celine Dion. Makes me think the producer of this surely had a recto-cranial inversion problem when putting it together.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
As much as i like the Libertines, Pete is over rated, he rights some good lines but other times writes complete bollocks! he's a smart guy, but sounds thick, does idiotic things and takes whey to many drugs. He needs to sharpen up.
I'm trying to figure out how she sat there and didn't acknowledge how lucky she was to have that song played so beautifully 2 feet away from her...and not even so much as a word or a toe tap...or a head sway. Maybe concentrating on her next question. I wonder if she rethought it after seeing it? How can you ignore that performance w/out a compliment of some sort???
I think he doens't know where the button is. First, it semmed like he didn't know what to answer.
He's right - he should push the button by himself, but he shouldn't exaggerate. I think he enjoys situations, partys and all those stuff too much without thinking about the consequences. But it's not his fault, he seems to be a very, very sensitive and true soul, but he just doesn't know how to find the right way.
By the way:My english isn't perfect. Excuse the mistakes:)
@zoso212 So true - Part One of this interview compounds that. I don't knwo what to say that hasn't already been said other than Pete has the most pain-stricken eyes I've ever seen....
i love it when he says: yeh.. i know where the self distruct button is. He is so raw, so honest, i just hate that people cannot see past the tabloids and drugs for what he truly is. He is a true soul
this just....makes me cry. He's such a beautiful person with an amazing talent.
people have got to se beyond the drugs...I'm not saying that I like it, but...you know...don't forget his talent and what he gives to the world. I'm just saying don't let the drugs decide who he is to you.
Peter for me represents a great mistery and paradox. Paradox of a very evolved and gentle soul, but who expresses himself and defines himself by decadence. Anyway, he remains being the great platonic Love of my decadent side. And his music makes me discover some never known feelings. You just need to love Peter!
@andabottleofbread Yeah its more of some fail intervention, Pete is his own person AND fucking talented as fuck. I do oxycotin every fucking day (40s) and i can honestly say it doesnt effect me that much. People like to get high, so fucking what.
Saludos!!
When the interviewer began reading his mother's letter describing him, note the expression on Peter's face...a sad, soft look. He seemed really touched by what his mother said about him.
that's so annoying indeed, I've noticed that in other interviews as well! I don't think it's always intentional..some probably don't know how to deal with him so they put up this shield. I'm surprised he's not reacting more aggressively..
pete is what he is. but not only that he is poetic, intelligent and gifted musically. I think he is an absolute legend and yes he does have his demons but dont we all and if you dont u r very lucky.x
bless him. love the sarcasim :) when he looks at the camera afer the letter and prtends to cry. its really good of him to put up with all these people poking their noses into his life x
i love his sense of humour, it's so awkward X] and his face when the lady is talking about the letter from his mom. she's actually the most decent interviewer i've seen in a while. and obviously pete is adorable.
Do you know what its soooo lovely to see that nearyly everyone on here has made a nice comment about pete doherty! he is soo amazing and hismusic iss so pure... i wish everyone couldtake a step back and look at the bigger picture and see that he is a amazing musician. to me his music just.......soo... oh i cant even put it into words he is just a incredible human being
haha..they left me on the side of the road...in a plastic bag. lol. he's always trying to make light of those bad situations. they should just leave him alone. it is what it is, ad BabyShambles is an awesome band. He's wonderful, taleted, kind and very funny. I cannot wait for his album to get here just a week or two away yay!!
well it's true she's focusing on the drugs. But still, this is the most sensitive interviewer I've seen. She doesn't take it lightly, but she isn't rude either. Is it fair to attribute this quality to the fact that it's the BBC?
Bloody hell, why is getting interviewed about his addiction and not about his talent? His addiction is a private thing that he needs to deal with himself - I can't stand these kind of interviews. I hate how the media loves to sensationalise peoples sadness to make money. We live in a very fucked up world.
i totally agree, but at the end of the day, we don't need the bbc to tell us how talented he is, so maybe by looking deeper into his mind, you can understand his music with more depth.
There is a lot more to Pete than just the drugs. Underneath is a truly talented guy, sweet, vulnerable and a little bit too naive for his own good. I wish him well and hope that he eventually finds whatever it is he's looking for.
why is there an advert for Dior ADDICT next to this clip. As if ADDICT somehow relates to Pete...........

As much as i like the Libertines, Pete is over rated, he rights some good lines but other times writes complete bollocks! he's a smart guy, but sounds thick, does idiotic things and takes whey to many drugs. He needs to sharpen up.
He isn't an amazing poet or song writer!

That was a deep interview.

Peter Doherty is an immortal poet. The voice of a generation that is brave enough to look that generation directly in the face.
zoso212 2 years ago 13
@zoso212 So true - Part One of this interview compounds that. I don't knwo what to say that hasn't already been said other than Pete has the most pain-stricken eyes I've ever seen....

I would have NEVER thought Doherty has this kind of depth to him... It's astonishing how the media can make a scarecrow out of anyone.

Peter for me represents a great mistery and paradox. Paradox of a very evolved and gentle soul, but who expresses himself and defines himself by decadence. Anyway, he remains being the great platonic Love of my decadent side. And his music makes me discover some never known feelings. You just need to love Peter!

When the interviewer began reading his mother's letter describing him, note the expression on Peter's face...a sad, soft look. He seemed really touched by what his mother said about him.

well it's true she's focusing on the drugs. But still, this is the most sensitive interviewer I've seen. She doesn't take it lightly, but she isn't rude either. Is it fair to attribute this quality to the fact that it's the BBC?
friendofthedevil 2 years ago 10
Agreed. Watched an interview on The Late Late show before, it was just drugs, drugs, poor relationship with father, drugs.
Pat Kenny (The interviewer) was so careless, insensitive in the way the questions were asked.

Bloody hell, why is getting interviewed about his addiction and not about his talent? His addiction is a private thing that he needs to deal with himself - I can't stand these kind of interviews. I hate how the media loves to sensationalise peoples sadness to make money. We live in a very fucked up world.
soulofblue 2 years ago 13
i totally agree, but at the end of the day, we don't need the bbc to tell us how talented he is, so maybe by looking deeper into his mind, you can understand his music with more depth.
