@175myles its all about weight. they have a magneto, so they dont need power for an ignition system. So, without a starter they dont have to have a bettery, cables, switches...saves a lot!
Smart man! I always wore a neck brace, too. My 2¢ says better safe than sorry. In the mid-90s, one of the sprint car drivers at Devil's Bowl in Dallas had his career cut short by a freak accident. The throttle linkage was installed backwards, so when it fired, it was wide open. We didn't have to wear any gear while tuning the cars then, so he was in a t-shirt. He tried to stop, but hit a parked truck very fast. No belts, no helmet, nothing. He was hurt pretty bad, but luckily survived.
are you retarded? 1. hans makes different models for all types of racing. 2. wheres the logic of somthing that can protect you at 150 but not at a slower speed? clearly not a racer yourself
if you're talking about the throttle sticking then you've obviously never seen these cars go because when the pedal sticks they're so light the fuckin go and you don't really have alot of reaction time to get it off if it decides to hit a tree on the side of the road
well its a good thing that if the return springs fail the pedal has a place for your foot to life the pedal.... and you would have enough time... unless you panic and don't know what to do...
Legal ain/t no fun..........gap 'em out at 36k and set the idle at 950 with a good dose of toluene. Ever hear of Napthene. Ever hear of a Gasser? I love sprint engines, esp. the 336.
i run a borello engine. hes from nor cal and it dyno at 703 h.p. at 8400 r.p.m. yeah a wesmar gets that to but it will cost you $35,000. mine only cost $28,000. you can ask anyone that runs at chico or in nor cal that his motors are the shit. are those dragon claws?
no not nor cal although were running skagit aug 1st and 2nd for that 10,000 to win 360 race they have. i run with the ascs southwest down in arizona. i got dragon claws on my motor. have you had any problems with them?
Make sure you're getting fuel first. Could be several related if no fuel. If it is getting fuel, and you have an external ignition box for the mag, make sure the box is grounded. Try the switch in the other position(also you need to use a 40 amp switch). 12 amp switches will still arc across and ground the mag. Mags work by "ungrounding" them to fire. If the box is grounded good, and it won't fire with the switch in either position, it's probably the mag.
I know absolutely nothing about sprint cars, but why not use an electric start?

@175myles there is no transmission..there is just an "in/out" lever that engages the driveshaft with the back of the motor

Did you really need the neck brace for that? lol
pancho379 3 years ago
Yes. My neck is very important to me. :) Anything could have happened while firing off a sprint car, such as the throttle sticking...
dirttrakker 3 years ago 5
Get a hans if you don't have one already. They're worth every penny.
pancho379 3 years ago
Oh yes, I have a HANS. Everytime I've been in a sprint car I have a HANS on, and would never get into a car without it.
dirttrakker 3 years ago
in that case you turn it off lol ....

Hey TJ have you guys got the car back together after that flip at Elma, what broke anyways?
thundrbolt1 3 years ago
Yes, we did get it put back together. We even decided to run last week on Sunday night with the ASCS NW region Tour...
The front end and wings were wrecked. The frame had a small crack in it where the front torsion tube rack connects. Easy fix.
Thanks for watching!

oh cool. You guys run non-wing right? No problems with the dragon claw. lot of work to clean the long nozzles, but no problems.
dirttrakker 3 years ago

01ranger06raptor 3 years ago
