  • pushing through with David singing

  • Respect to Dinah Shore, bringing music like David's to mainstream viewers RIP Dinah Shore

  • Fantastic performance! Loved it. He's THE MAN.

  • David Bowie was so ahead of his time

  • @Groblinfull We meet again! I have commented on this video about ten times, my god he was at his peak vocals, and what feeling and emotion ! He looks emaciated yet we get this gift, thank you Mr. Jones, peace and love, also to you,my friend

  • Thanks for putting this on - still amazes me that youtube means we can get to see stuff like this at the flick of a cursor. Thanks to everyone who keeps it going

  • "And the QUEER threw up at the sight of that."

  • "BOWIE" - more than human's deserve!

  • He put so much emotion into this one

  • "And a BEAR through up at the sight of that...."

  • @shaymultimedia haha nice catch mate! I think they censored it for wholesome Dinah Shore.

  • Bowie in his prime.

  • 0:10 did she say David Tomie?

  • @Keshal94 "david told me"

  • A very good version of a very good song.

  • Spectacular.

    Grazie for the upload.

  • it is so clear...he is in love....and afraid....

  • this is one of the more haunting versions...slowed to an almost stop! I can feel the tick-tock pounding to where I clearly hear precisely where each agonizing musical change takes place. This is just fine wine aging well over four decades of troubled times.

  • thanks...............

  • wow !!

  • In "73" I was listening to the Aladdin Sane album . My dad peeked into my room (not disliking the music ) saw the cover and told me to get rid of it . Of course , I didn't . What is really funny was I also had Alice Cooper's Killer album out . For those as old as I am , you remember the foldout of Alice hanging himself . He saw that too but , it didn't seem to phase him . David Bowie scared the hell out of him .

I think that is when I really began to understand Bowie .

  • Very nice! Thanx for the upload!

  • A religious experience !!

  • fantastic!!!!

  • a live music spot on day time TV and Bowie to boot, pretty go stuff, not like you had access to TV recorders very much back then.

  • Really makes me cry...

  • 37 years

  • He never looked better than here. Otherworldly.

  • The Thin White Duke versions o Five Years are always amazing. Check the live album in the station to station box set if you don't believe me ;)

  • prefer the original drumming

  • delícia para meus ouvidos

  • amazing indeed!

  • Because he's not high at all :P Doesn't matter anyway, he's still amazing, I nearly cry every time I listen to his music with the thought I might never meet him, and te fact that he's 64 and...I don't even want to talk about that...He is my ultimate role model, I will never get over this man who was so influential and aetherial. I just hope one day I will be able to meet him and I can leve just as much as a mark on society withought upstaging him, impossible to do though it may be.

  • man i wish i had the opportunity to see bowie back then :( i was seriously born in the wrong generation.

  • @iloveebowie Saame..My spanish teacher says the same thing whenever we talk about music :P

  • @iloveebowie totally feel you dude

  • Holy damn... Bowie doing an alt-country version... fucking awesome!!!

  • Yeah, I'm 18 too and I totally agree. I think we all should have been born like forty years ago.

  • @pleasebemine0 40 years ago, you would have been under 5 in 1975 .... You'd be hanging out at his concerts at then ?

  • @sclapione obviously, and I would've grown up listenting to David Bowie, what else could I ask for?

  • He looks like a Talking Head in this video.

  • my brain hurts like a wharehouse tooo---bowie is brilliant

  • Come back David! There is a whole new generation just waiting for you!!! :)

  • I've got five years left - I've got Cancer - I'm Cancer - born in July - Just five years left to listen to a band I love like Beatles and Bowie and Books like the Bible. Since I ate the Poison Pill and saw Joan's God as just "One of Us", I haven't too much use of a new song and remember "just an old fashioned Love Song" I heard playing when we were drinking "milk shakes - cold and long". it must be "Monday, Monday" 'cause "the sky is grey" and "rainy days always get me down".

  • @rolandrog dont always believe it--i was told that in 1990--u hang in there

  • 14 people need to pull their head out of their ass.

  • funny edit @2:59

"and the *#^% threw up at the sight of that."

I guess "queer" was too much to broadcast in 1975

  • all i can say is WOW...What a legend he is

  • Diana Shore had this appearance of conservatism. Very commendable that she had Bowie on her show and doing this obscurist composition.

  • @mizzury54 I know, right?! She seems like one of the least hip people around, yet she not only had Bowie on her show multiple times but also Iggy Pop! That's borderline insane.

  • I rember hooking school to watch this, someincrediblelive TV then.....anyone rememberMike Douglas' co-hosts? Anyone see John and Yoko the wekk''ekthey did...nowadays canyoueven imagine seeing anyone not geeting bleeped by a line like 'and the queer threw up at the sight of that'?

We are such sissies now. Try hunting up The New York Dolls.....

  • this is just WOW

  • Yeah fuck elvis, he's got nothing on bowie. and there is always plenty of great music and shitty music, now or in 75.

  • I wonder if Burt Reynolds had started to plow Dinah yet???

Shes seems to be squirming in her seat a bit which makes me think it may have already have happened. As far as Bowie's performance, hes always a great entertainer...Hey, are you alowed to say "Black" anymore?

Somebody should call Al Sharpton to protest this...No Justice, No Peas!!!

  • This is fantastic! First time ive seen this version!

  • Wow that was an amazing performance. Thats why he has god status!

  • Never seen this before and he sang it in a slightly different tone than he normally would. That was during his "Philly" phase, I liked it.

  • Major props for Dinah Shore(RIP) for always putting David on her show. She was cool.

  • David Bowie.. What/who else? :)

  • it is so great,so great

  • "David TOLD ME interestingly enough. . ."

  • 0:08 David Domie? Like She cant say David Bowie :P

  • 0:08 David Domie?

  • this is art. just... overwhelming.

  • i love david! he is art!!!!!!

  • My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare.

  • A fabulous song, beautiful voice.

  • This is fucking fabulous.

  • That man is sooo sexy! Wonderful guy with a stunning voice...

You just got to love him...

  • he can't be one of us!he's from another world... amazing video!!

  • awesome

  • Great! I noticed that he switched 'sighing' and 'crying', first verse, in this version.

  • Who the f didn't like this?

  • so slow -- maybe he even thinks so -- but an interesting version, thanks

  • so much soul

  • so much soul

  • This is awesome. Thanks for sharing. This may be my favorite version of this song. I've never heard this version until now. Wow. So good.

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks Thanks Thanks!

    Thats a relic!

  • wow the lady presenter is so cool, who is she?

  • Dinah had a huge crush on Bowie at5 this time and it is very obvious in this interview how flirty she is. This was Bowie's physical beauty peak. (and vocal)

  • CRUB DA TUB... What a frickin' IDIOT !!!

  • I don't know if we have 5 years left or not, but I want you to know that I love you all.

  • He heard Terry phone, in the house, favourite memories,

He sawed boys toys, eclectic ions and Teevees

My brain hard like a wharehouse with new room to spare

I had cramp and so many things everything in hair

    - Ziggy Starsdust 1974

  • @CrubbDaTubb I hope you're joking about the lyrics. Those lyrics are way off. :)

  • News guy wept when he told us...Earth was really dying...He cried so much his face was wet...then I knew he was not lying

(I wish news today would be so honest)

  • I love Bowie. This is awesome, recorded from an old boob tube.

  • The White Duke. Superb!

  • Great!

  • Would have been beyond perfection if Mick Ronson was there.

  • 3 years before my birth :) amazing

  • wow, music to deaf ears. l kiss you, your beautifull l want you to walk.

  • wow... I love this man so much....

  • i like how she says "bandshtand" lol

  • my god- stunning

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • Perfect!

  • I would pay money for this with high quality video.

  • Brilliant song. Its my favourite song off the ziggy stardust album.

  • oh my god, David Bowie is amazing

  • I'm 18, and a big Bowie fan, but it makes me think is their anyone modern that means so much culturally to music as he did in his time. It makes me sad I have to look to the past to find such inspiring and great musicianship, when modern music is basically regurgitating the same formula becuase they know it sells well. Will thier ever be another Elvis/Bowie?

  • @RabbitFodder123 One Bowie is enough for the world

  • @RabbitFodder123

Sweety, not to be an a-hole but you mean to use there not their. And you are so right about their not being another Bowie but their is good music still being made. Check out Thom Yorke of Radiohead. In my opinion he is one of the great current musical geniuses. In Rainbows is a fucking amazing album!

  • @TheSonicchick why would you make a there/their grammar correction and then use their improperly (twice) in the comment.

  • @RabbitFodder123 Look to the underground scene for good music and not mainstream. Back in the early '70s Bowie was not listened to by the masses in USA either and was for the people that went beyond the mainstream. Many Americans back in the day referred to music like this as "fag rock". Well, they can suck my dick because Bowie is still here and to universal critical acclaim too.

  • @MultiKanut I was listening to Bowie back in 74 as a kid, my friends older brothers buged me about how Bowie was gay and as you said the music was for fags. lol I said I could care less (not really knowing what a fag was) and stayed true to the man. I'm still a huge a fan to this day. You're right, it wasn't until the China Girl years that he became mainstream, people went back through his music and were not afraid to say they listen to him. Later those brothers respected I stood my ground. :)

  • @RabbitFodder123

    Elvis sucks. Big time stink.

  • @RabbitFodder123 You are part of the problem. Bowie wouldn't agree with you.

  • @RabbitFodder123 I agree that our current cycle of music doesn't seem to involve much "craftsmanship". However, remember there are others who feel the same way and some certainly have musical talent. It's just a matter of time before one of them makes themselves known.

  • @RabbitFodder123 I'm 14 and COMPLETELY agree, music just seems to be all the same now- David Bowie is literally everything to me...I would love it if someone could make such a good influence as Bowie, I think we've just got to accept that if you want good music you have to look for the past :) Finegrs crossed for the future though ;))

  • @RabbitFodder123 course not, but good music transcends time and if you consider how changes influence all that is seen heard and otherwise felt this temporary anomaly, this vacancy needs B overcome, just as you C in all things, debate of great matters, consider your consideration; inspiration, how choose you to use it, does it amuse you or ? do you make/create - we all have the potential of great creations, even darkness can inspire delight. O & down with mass media corp control! Free thinker :)

  • @RabbitFodder123 You are right. And we all listen to old music. i can recomend "radiohead" they are realy good in all albums, but i think you know allredy. Best wishes for some good music:)

  • @RabbitFodder123 I doubt there will ever be another "Elvis/Bowie." I say that not because newer bands/artists are untalented, but because the cultural climate/ way people look at music and creative people has changed so drastically. Americans seem to have decided that anything apart from the norm is no good. While, all this may be, you don't have to only look to the past to find great musicianship. Maybe just dig deeper. Molly is a hell of a drug.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS..RESPECT

  • chill - just an R'N'B version gesh he wrote it

  • It's great to see another version of my Favorite Bowie song, but i hated the tempo and the twisted vocal stylings of this classic. Seriously, that song is as PERFECT as any song i've ever heard, how can you dare mess with it ?

  • this is classic on so many levels, it is truly...amazing

  • Awesome!

  • my all time favorite artist.

  • Damn he's sexy!

  • When we stand before our Creator the question will not be over lives right or wrong but whether or not we listened to David Bowie.

  • @yamaka820 Quoted you on facebook, hope you don't mind!

  • 75 was the absolute height in his whole creative path, thicker than ever, the voice of troubled man at full potential, than those times were simply amazing qualitywise regarding any sort of music that was made.

    cet homme là me tue

  • Ziggy StartDust wrote this song in the early seventies and he would never have let David Bowie sing it if he hadn't retired into acting in films on the cinema. Maybe it's true David Bowie stole this song from Ziggy StartDust but he will never be accredit with it as it is just a cover version like when Suzanne Boyle sang that white horses song by Bob Dylans.

  • @CrubbDaTubb

You must be a troll or just very young and don't know your history.

  • @CrubbDaTubb Dude, Ziggy Stardust IS David Bowie. Bowie wrote the song, therefore he has every right to sing it. Do your research before you post.

  • @Jrsarver I don't think so

  • @CrubbDaTubb is an attention whore troll.

  • @blooddonor70 You cheeky tw4t

  • @CrubbDaTubb is that good?

  • @CrubbDaTubb

Ba ha ha ha you're jokin right??

If not you really need to spend some time facing the wall with the dunce hat on.

  • @CrubbDaTubb HAHAHAHAHAHAHA you have made my day!! your lack of knowledge about david bowie asounds me!! :L how could you not know that ziggy stardust is david bowie's alter-ego!!!! :L

  • @CrubbDaTubb Thats gotta be some kind of artsy joke, hasn't it?!?

  • damn there are so many great version un recorded and recorded of this song. god bless bowie. i gotta cover of this great song that i do not pretend to do justice to but i'd love your opinion and not mine. much love, amor, y paz

  • i'm in luv again

  • just love the version!

  • Wow... so much feeling.... And his voice is more mature here too. Brilliant.

  • Good video, but it's pre-Thin White Duke. He looked more austere during that period.

  • Fabulous fabulous. Best version IMO. Dinah however grates. I hate all of his interviews with her because of her weird flirtatious trying to be sexy attitude with him. Dislike.

  • It's amazing how 3 years can change a song, this arrangement is as good as the original, it builds so soulfully. Great version.

  • Well ok a bit like young Beckham only with 100X the Charisma

  • Looks scarily like Beckham in this.

  • 60 pounds lighter, but okay.

  • Im in love with the feeling of this guy

  • ...brilliant version. who are the musicians with Bowie here? i love the feel laid down by the rhythm section; unlike any other version i've heard. masterful vocal. thanks very much for posting...

  • Great version--thanks!

  • His appearance changed dramatically between 72 and 75

  • he s got this extra virtuous voice with a slightly hysterical touch,......

  • ...gives you tingles down your spine. Amazing!

  • Comment removed

  • May have been a guest appearance at the Nine Inch Nails gigs, Bauhaus also turned up.

  • i simply love him and this version is so amazing!!!!thx for this rarity!

  • Way too cool for school. This guy could make anything sound great. Bravo.

  • Takes me back to 1978 cruising around in the country burning one!

  • @clouds88, thanks for the good laugh haha

  • To Bodacea1: a warm hello to you.

I am abashed, ashamed, getting older, I suppose.

I saw Mr. Bowie on May 19th, 2004, at the Milwaukee Theatre.

"2006" is maybe the last year I remembered what I had for breakfast by dusk.

That said, the rest is accurate. He did speak in candor, and at some length, about his songwriting. His comments had all the attendant charm and brilliance we might expect.

Thank you for your kind indulgence. (Goddamn, you're looking old...)

    Best,

    Terry

  • This is the best version he ever did. Slower than Five Years on the Ziggy-album, but sung with so much passion. BRAVO!!!

  • This song has always held a special place in my heart.....a great find!!

  • Great sound quality, excellent upload :)

  • This is amazing!! I just love him ♥

  • this song always gives me the chills, I love it.

  • Gorgeous guy with a gorgeous voice.

  • God I love this...

  • amazing amazing amazing Vocals! My Favorite Bowie song!

  • i live in spain and just the other day i saw this boy with a guitar on the streets absolutely screaming this song out, he was superb, just goes to show how universal the power and the beauty of bowies songs are... supreme

  • my favourite song to play....

  • Gonna make every fan happy, thank you.

The audio as well as Bowie's tone are just fantastic.

  • Gorgeous !

  • OH My ! He was this gorgeous !

  • I had the great fortune of seeing Mr. Bowie in 2006. He was warm, engaging, and spoke about his songwriting. The gist of what he said was he was a bit uncomfortable as a rock performer, but that he was proud of his songs. It was great to hear him champion his music, and in in his speech there seemed to be real humility, a look back, a summoning up.

    Bravo. Long live!

  • You saw him in 2006? He had pretty much retired since 2004. You are lucky to have heard him talk. Where was this please share? :)

  • one of bowie's best.

  • An era that will never be repeated. I feel sad for kids today when I think what a teen sees on TV for music today.

  • im 13 and listen to bowie, iggy, all motown music, grand funk, all the greats plus icp twiztid boondoxs dark lotus etc.

  • "smiling and waving and looking so fine" from 'Stage' always makes me tear up.
