Donno. In 2007 I would've been called a fag if I played Panda Bear in public. You can thank the more mainstream popularity of more popish artists like Grizzly Bear or Of Montreal for the raised awareness of Lennox and AC in general. Better late than never, I suppose. It's nice to have a larger consensus "come around".
