  • if you look really close you can see casper the friendly ghost holding the cork

  • that was quarky...

  • Once Again I Want To Just Punch This Guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He Gets Me Angry STUPID ASS UNCLE FESTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Are you the brother of Kipkay???

  • some one try it to see if it is true

  • simple ...............he is free falling in an elevator while taking this video

  • hahahahaha ya

  • cant u see his body is gone too and everything is so black!!! gives u a clue...

  • what sucks is not many of us can do this cause most of us have hair

  • Hair Dryer!!!!

  • if it was real he wouldnt be recording that in a black room wich is what people use to fake magic tricks!

  • Luckily he is bald, or not the trick won't work

  • coza asy

  • if that was hd we would have seen the string

  • sometimes i think that some of those videos are fake.

  • he is laying down :P

  • hmm. black everything definitly "ISN'T" the trick

  • God damn wizards

  • good thing that hes bald.

  • AHHHHHHHHHH floating head and arms and cork. AND it's British!!!

  • lol steve jobs?

  • this is soo cheesy

  • He never moved his hands IN FRONT of the cork.

  • I just realized that your head is floating.

  • i haven't seen the solution, but he must be lying on his back ( hence the dark room and dark clothing, so you don't know he's lying on his back). He is using fishing line, and his hands never intercept the path of it. Plus, the rotation fits with this scenario.

  • Comment removed

  • @tonycdrive i've already seen the solution and i assume you have too. If you look carefully though, even in this video, it is clear his hand doesn't actually go between the lens and the spinning cork ( where the string would be), if it does seem this way (which it slightly does) it is only because of camera angles.

  • I did this with my baby. Now i`m quite angry at you, Quirkology.

  • in soviet russia, cork levitates you!!!!

  • OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO...A FLOATING HEAD AND HANDS!

  • Nice string hanging out of the left side of your mouth. Or is your face naturally shaped that way?

  • what do u use the can and sock for

  • thanks a lot you idiot now i broke my watch

  • "And it just goes to show, the power of the human mind", think he read the script wrong. It was supposed to be "And it just goes to show, the power of CGI".

  • he's lying down which explains all the blac, and his hand doesnt completely go over the cork, stopping right were the line holding it is.

  • i tried with a pencil. it fell on the ground. then i said, even though there was no one in the room, "he's full of crap."

  • he is laying down, and has a string on the cork.. if you notice, he never brings his hand in front of the cork between the cork and camra

  • Why do I have a suspision that this is fake!

  • I did it :D

  • if u look properly there is a thin black line near his hand and some times on it. for me its like hes lying down.the cork is maybe attached to the camera with a string. I think so.... thumbs up about the moonwalking bear :P

  • @liamluffy6 yea he have a video were he shows it.. and indeed it is a black line =D

  • Hey, your head levitates too! :O

  • omg.

you look like my dad and that guy from mythbusters put together O_o

  • Who would really ask that lmao

  • Okay, even I KNOW that's a bunch of shit.

  • it's all about perspective!

  • Your shirt is the same color as the backround and you have a string that is the same color as the backround and your shirt.

  • the power of the human mind indeed

    that was quite the impressive

  • he is laying on the ground and the thing is on a string)

  • it looks like he is lying down...

  • haha makes it seem like its really possible

  • just goes to show, the power of FISHING LINE!

  • @MARINE438753 cant be a fishing line, it was spinning to much, plus at 0:20 he puts his fingers straight through that area

  • @Artziartful na at 0:20 its a smaller version of the david copperfield trick in wich he levitates himselve and does this movement with hoolahoop rings ( in the video he just does it with is hand)

  • @MARINE438753 lol he up he moved his hands around the cork so if a fishing line were to be there he would have hit it!

  • @AQWGOD,The answer is in a video to the right called "the method". and yes it is a string.

  • @tonycdrive Yeah I saw the behind the scenes of it lawl it is string ...

  • @MARINE438753 there is no fishing line. he moved his hands all around the cork. If there was a fishing line to hit, he would of moved the cork. Think before you speak idiot.

  • @bpuff1396 there is a fishing line. hes laying on the ground and only put his hands in front of the cork enough not to hit the string. Think before you speak idiot.

  • @MARINE438753 so you watched the reveal video...

  • people who are saying he was lying down thx for recking it ¬¬

  • wow i cant believe that the whole time you were lying down

  • neat trick!

  • He's laying on the ground, and there is a string attached to the cork and attached to the camera.

I think they must have bad quality videos on purpose, otherwise you could see the string. :p

Seriously, though, they AT LEAST need a better mic.

  • corckology? or cockology?

  • the hell is corkology the study of cork??

  • AMAZING TRICK!! His head and hands are floating. ROFL

  • hahahhahahahahahah....LMFAO!!!

  • lawl

if this video was in a higher quality then you would have seen the string tied around the cork

  • good thing hes bald or it would be obvious

  • yeah he touches the string at 0.19

  • lol hes layin on the floor and the string comes from the direction of the camera

  • LOL, Genius Amirite?

  • was this guy ever a magician or something? thats very good

  • I can see the strings!!! Lol only joking, very belivable trick, he looks like a floting head... Creepy!

  • haha, his shirt looks invisible =P

  • ooo yea he's laying on the ground and the cork is hanging from the camera! ahaha that was ingenious!

  • This is good. Everyone has said that this is dumb, but shut up. You can't do this, and neither can I. This guy is GOOD. I like his book. You should stop arguing with him

  • I agree! This is pure genius. So simple tricks - once you find them. And well performed for that matter. Remember, it is not dumb just because it is simple. On the contrary, the best tricks are always the simplest. The whole point is how he can surprise us by playing with our expectations - in this case directions.

  • oh okay. Wow that IS amazing.

  • it's something with high compressed air

  • no. see the reveal and u will know.

  • hidup mcm ceebyeee

  • correctamundo!

  • i think he is doing it by green or blue screen

  • he uses a black string but he is lying on the floor and if you take a close look you can see he never covers the cork in front of the camera not to touch the string..but there is another vid that shows the making off

  • It cant be a black string

  • watch the reveal.

  • hehehehehe

  • Where is his body oeo? Its is Modaz

  • that was lol

  • i like his book very much..

  • Green screen anyone?

His face was well lit but his shirt was as black as the background.

  • nope, i knew how he did it before i even watched the video that told how he did it

  • the guy is laying on the ground... he hung the cork from the ceiling

  • duh its obvious once u watch the revealed video

  • it works

  • When were you folks planning on announcing the FIRST person (the winner of the challenge, as your rules originally specified) who correctly described how this was done? Thanks,

    -Scott

  • lol no offence , but this looks fake

  • you guys are all fools! he uses his super mental ability and focuses on the cork real hard, and he makes it levitate...god

  • shhhh!!! your not supposed to tell everyone how its done deathzrider!

  • hahaha

  • Obviously, by your lack of ability to read and spell, you must be a moron. I posted my comment well before the solution was released. The solution was divulged on Sept. 7th (5 days ago). Do the math imbecile.

  • i ADORE ur trick,s it's so awesome, it's like you compeltely DONT expect for him to be doing that!!1 i was thinkign something else hahahahah.

  • totaly suckered me, I love it when people can still do that to me. Brilliant

  • the solution to corkology is now available on quirkologyDOTcom

  • There is no cork/

  • Think you know how this video was achieved? Enter the Quirkology Challenge on quirkologyDOTcom.

  • Also, pause it excatly at 19seconds and look at his left arm....thats not natural, now that i see it

  • I honestly have no idea, He does have a shirt on, i enchanced the brightness, and there is a different shade, They are his arms too, Only thing i can see is that, when he is preparing to put his hand behind the cork e.g 18 seconds... He apperas to be looking behind the cork... thats as far as i got, unless it has something to do with glass pannels... although he does place his hands around the cork.... ?? beats me

  • Kewl. I honestly thought THIS ONE was a bit too odd, since I can't see the blend line of his shirt and the background. Also that the part of his neck line doesn't show up, it just seems to fade in. As for the hands and all that, I don't have much of an explaination. Maybe just some good camera work. Or some god-given power I don't understand XD. Who knows? Good video all together.

  • there not your arms but i still dno how it levitated

  • i think he's lying on his back on the black floor and the cork is attach to a string which is connected to the ceiling(maybe not,but is tied to something and as u can see he didnt wave his hand on the back of the cork.

  • His arms look weird.

And we can't see his shirt at all.

Blends too well with the background.

  • The "swinging" motion of the spinning cork makes it obvious that he is laying on his back with the cork suspended by a thread from above.

  • He is lying on his back on the floor. The camera is mounted to the ceiling, looking down. The cork is hanging from a fine thread attached to the ceiling.

  • This is sooo simple.

He is lying on his back with the camera facing down on him. The cork is suspended above him on a piece of black string that has been twisted around so that is spins when he lets go. It's all done on a black background so that you can't see the string.

When he does the reveal video, I bet he will show everyone on a white background!!

  • He is laying down on a black floor and the cork is suspended from a string with the camera pointed straight down.

  • The cork is the only thing tha stand still, the room and the man are moving in a circular way.The camera is attached on the moving "room".Like Jamiroquay's "virtual insanity"

  • lool! idiot

  • either that or there is a black wire stand that he sticks the cork on to spin it.

  • nooooo you are all silly. he is laying on the ground. a the cork is on a black string hanging and the camera is faced down onto him. everything but him and the cork is black so the string blends in, watch it again you will see. ;)

  • pretty sure those aren't his arms.

  • i kno ghow he did that there is a string on the back of his ear attaced to his thumb, its really easy to do

  • Think you know how this video was achieved? Enter the Quirkology Challenge on quirkologyDOTcom.

  • Richard is horizontal, facing up, and viewing angle of camera is nearly (but not quite) vertical-down. Cork is suspended by a black string. Suspension point of string is slightly forward of camera (perhaps just above a point to the right of Richard's mouth or nose. See more description and diagram at my YouTube homepage.

  • are those his arms?

  • hes actually laying on the ground and the cork is spinning from a string. keep it simple guys.

  • i have to agree with zero grave, reason i say that is if it was a string it would have to be coming from the camera. cant be from the top since its turning that way and wont be from the back since he passes his hand behind it, the only place his hand is not passed is in front of it so thats the only place a string could come from, simply put Zero-G would be simpler to hide then a string coming from thew camera man

  • I think the reason he is wearing black and the background is black, is to hide the fact that he is actually lying on his back. The cork seems to be attached to a wire. He can put his hand behind it but can't put his hand completely in front of it. We are looking at him from above and someone is manipulating the cork by twisting a wire.

  • I'll guess he's suspended from the ceiling, say by a black harness. Everything in the background is also black.

The cork is hanging too, by some string.

The camera is actually positioned on the ground, facing up at him.

So of course the cork spins freely.

We're just used to thinking seeing someone face on means they are standing up normally.

  • He was in zero gravity durr. lol

  • if he was in zero gravity he would not of been able to keep it in the right place.

  • they were jokinx silly

  • Its on a string, no doubt about it. I think the quirkology in this trick is that you assume it is hanging from a string rather than the string passing through it horizontaly.

  • There is no cork...

  • you are nothing but a head and arms, see, you don't have torso

  • go to double-u double-u double-u (dot) physics (dot) ucla (dot) edu (slash) marty (slash) levitron (slash) for the answer

youtube doesn't let you post links so double-u means "w" etc

  • want to know how this was done? it is simple it has been attatched to some spinning device that is in the background. the spinning device is black in color. this is why it only spins in one direction and he can put his hands through it.

  • This is my thought, too. A black dowel or wire coming from the camera toward him. You can see at 12 seconds in the video where he gently places it on the spinning whatever.

  • The cork itself does swing in a small arc, as a pendulum would, and it does move forward a bit when the prof makes a circle with his hands and passes them 'over' the cork. It seems to me that the prof is hanging upside down, vis-a-vis the peculiar motion he makes when he first makes a circle with his hands 'above' the cork, before he passes them around the cork.

  • I think it was filmed in a "Vomit Comet". You get zero G on a parabolic flight. That's why the Prof looks a bit green.

  • It is not always his left hand.

  • there is a string! im not stupid. if there wasnt a string you wouldnt be in a blake backround

  • the guy is just on the ground.

  • To me it looks like the cork is suspended on a string and it is hanging from the direction of the camera. That is, Wiseman was lying down as this was shot.

  • I guess since this object is not truely levitating the "power of the human mind" is letting down it's owners...

  • u r a stupid b****h

  • the backround the shirt and the string are all the same colour

  • Quirkology is decaying

  • The simplest explanation for the video is that the cork is attached to something, and is being held in place by it, which is why everything is all black, to hide what's there. It reminds me of this "Matrix Ping-Pong" video I had seen ages ago. Shows you what you can do with clever lighting and arrangments.

  • I don't think the cork is hanging from a string at all. It looks like it's floating on something. The black background could be to faciliate reflections. We don't know which way is up. We assume he is standing up but he could be leaning at right angles over a bowl of water and filming his reflection. Alternatively it could be a sheet of glass. The cork one side, his hands the other.

  • Think you know how this video was achieved? Enter the Quirkology Challenge on quirkologyDOTcom.

  • If you are doing this the way that Iam pretty sure that you are, then you have no right revealing the secret. If I am wrong and you are not about to expose a magicians secret or have come up with a fourth method of making things levitate then I congratulate you.

  • this is a very very easy trick. I haven't read all of the other comments so someone else might have already explained it but Wiseman is lying on his back with a video camera pointed down towards himself and the cork is dangling by a very very thin thread (likely a single nylon fiber) that is attached near the camera. Notice that the loop he makes never crosses the front of the spinning cork. -Scott

  • I thinks it be challenging peoples ways of thought. That is Quirkology.

Is the trick done in an MRI scanner magnet?

  • wow! this is for real. i thought jedi was fiction?

  • This is quirokology guys. I'm certain they just made it black to make us think that it had something to do with it. But even so, it still could have something to do with it either way.

  • I'm not sold on this particular episodeideo. Regardless of how it's done, it doesn't really fit in with the theme of quirkology's stuff. It's missing the "-ology" part, meaning it's just a parlor trick, unless we're missing something really big (like we did in the color-change video. Now THAT was impressive . . . and psych-<i>ological</i>.) Making stuff float just isn't up to standards in comparison; just my opinion. :-/

Love your series as a whole though! :)

  • i think that he uses a string of bogey from his nose.

  • If you notice, when he passes the triangle with his fingers around the cork, the cork moves forward slightly. After this, it keeps swaying a little. String?

  • yes nice and neat, but not neat enough!i think some people think a string is too easy, but really filks thats just what it is, same as floating playing card cigarette and so on

  • Mr. Richard Wiseman is only using one of his hand in the video...the other hand on the left side of the screen is some one's other hand...

  • I'm surprised no one has figured this one out in five pages yet. I mean, I guess some of you have with the "it's on a stick/wire" comments, but you haven't gotten to the real genius of it. He put his hands all the way around it...except in front of it. He's laying on the ground and this is shot from above him. :)

  • everyones trying to find out some kind of evidence that it is fake, but you can actually do that with your mind.

  • yes- thats right. can you also make pigs fly with your mind?

  • Also my thought, but the stick would have to be pointing away from the cork out of the video screen(his hand movements), or maybe it is a stick with a bent. But why don't we see the stick at all, and why doesn't his hands seem to hit it? Maybe because of the poor video quality?

  • Ok, the left arm isn't even his is my guess. It seems too out of place. I have no idea what that has to do with the trick, but I guess I'll find out in sept.

  • Correct, look at the angle at 22 seconds, it comes from the bottom of the frame, but even with that, I still have no clue what they've done.

  • he's not wearing black...everything is blacked out except for his head and hands.....at 18 seconds...you can see a white t-shirt sleeve on the left of the screen...

  • nice illusion

  • At the beginning and end of the vid, when he touches the "cork" with his left hand (so the hand on the right side), this hand is 1. not the left hand he uses in the rest of the video and 2. very weird looking - the fingers seem deformed...

  • something to do with dark surely.. probably he wears a black shirt so you cant see wich direction is oriented his arm...

  • yea ok it's not his hands. but why...???

i'm amazed. this is great. keep 'em coming!!

  • he speaks to jinns?

  • What's the trick? He's lying on his back.

  • omgd, i am never going to remember to check back on this in Sept!!

  • dam the black bakground n shirt!

  • Wheres his shirt? And at :18 you can see a white sleeve.
