I found many Ukrainians don't appreciate being assumed as "Russian" while some Russians didn't want to be assumed as Ukrainian. Other's didn't care much, as many Ukrainian's are married or close friends with Russians, though the language is definetly different in ways. Many say Ukrainian, while perhaps being more difficult, is more beautiful and rich, though I find that of Russian language also. Much can't be truly translated well from Russian to english because the richeness of the language.
